They also fixed my DA 16-85 free of charge a few years ago when an internal screw came loose and jammed the zooming, even though it was out of warranty. I've had only excellent service from them.

So, Ed, do you have it back? Is all working correctly? Has the shutter count been reset?

I did that with my laptop once (MacBook Pro), about half an hour before I was due to give a seminar with it at the International Space Science Institute in Beijing. Thankfully, it still worked.

AF-Lenses for Pentax with build-in hood / integrated hood

Although perhaps not strictly having a "built -in hood", the DA 40 does have a hood that stays on permanently. Yes, it can be unscrewed, but it stays in the same position for shooting and storage, and is a fixture for most people.

D-FA 150-450 & 70-200 broken tripod foot: a DIY solution

Great job! I have the same part, twice, on my 150-450 and 70-200. It never occurred to me that it could break. I'll be more careful in future.

I like the design. Removing the foot while keeping the collar on is a breeze. But you have identified a weak point.

The DFA 150-450 is a marvel. It's a great lens. However, in some ways it's even better (for birds say) on an APS-C camera, because of the added reach.

ASA vs. ISO

Don't you just hate quantum mechanics? What business does light have in coming in discrete packets?

Shot noise tends to dominate in brighter regions, but thermal noise is more prominent in the shadows, especially in the blue channel where the amplification is higher.

I'm not interested in video, but these cameras look exciting for stills. I can't remember saying that about Canons before.

Meet the new flagship

It has been a long time coming. They could have put a souped-up KP in a flagship body in no time at all, so there has to be more, much more. Expecting a lot.

But in the meantime, the competition is leaping ahead. Slow and steady usually does not win the race.

I'm sticking with the f/2.8 (the weight doesn't worry me too much) but your choice is entirely understandable. Good luck with the f/4; it looks a great lens for outdoors.

The Kingdom of DSLR

They have previously said that ML has not increased their overall sales, just cannibalised their DSLR sales. So it was an expensive exercise for dubious gain. However, the horse has now bolted, and we won't get it back in the stables.

I hope we need not continue the equine allusions: Is Pentax flogging a dead horse?

Hmm, good point. I did play around with the DA 55-300 on the K1 when I first got it, and it wasn't too bad, especially shooting in 1:1 mode. Somehow, it dropped off my radar after buying the DFA 150-450. I might try it again.

Under a different world order, in a different reality, perhaps laws would have been passed mandating full interoperability between cameras and lenses of differing brand. Sort of like saying that computer operating systems should allow a range of different web browsers. Not this reality? Oh well.

Oh wait, wasn't that the way M42 operated? Such a pity that bayonet mounts went off in so many directions.

10 reasons I will not buy K new

If the K-new is the same size or larger than a more capable similarly priced mirrorless FF, then I will ................. (fill in your own).

C'mon Pentax. Let's really crush this. Leave no room for quibbling. Make it the BEST. I for one have my hand in my pocket and am ready to buy, if you give me a good reason to. But no, an improved pentaprism alone won't cut it.

Wait and see, BUT, if it's a quantum leap from the KP, then it's a double quantum leap from my K3, and I will be sorely tempted by improved AF and high ISO.

Interesting! Looks well-made. There's a similar but cheaper fotodioX version with integrated tripod mount. Others I can see are Kipon and K&FConcept. So the answer to my question is, it's not hard at all.

Hmm, so if the EF to RF adapter works so seamlessly, how hard would it be to make a K to RF adapter? Now THAT would get me thinking.
