Do you really need a FF ? Why ?

The appeal of FF is that you get more real estate on the chip. And yes lenses go back to the good old days for field of view and depth of field. Problem is we have reached a point of diminishing returns as far as quality gains. I was partnered with Kodak when the DCS series cameras came out. At that point you could already see that we were approaching "useful" resolution limits. Not saying great quality but more than good enough for the modern world. It does not matter if you resolve and record a matrix of a thousand lines per inch if you are only outputting 200 or so.

The other post'ers were right, less noise is a benefit. But software and a revised algorithm smashing the RAW data appears to be doing nicely to address that in the APS-C formats. Problem with all of that is that most of the "quality" gained will be impossible to see on a monitor, print out or realistically use. So other than being able to use my old Sigma 8mm circular fisheye again there is not much I am looking forward to in Pentax releasing a FF.....next year, right?

I would be very happy to supply you the 30mm. It and my 90mm f2.5 Series One Vivitar were always my favorites. It was very easy to shoot an entire day with just those two.

Great lens that is super sharp and covers full frame (for when Pentax/Ricoh comes out with one). Very happy with the lens. For not having a built in motor it has very fast AF. Good contrast and light compared to its size. Only selling because I went a little smaller with Pentax 60-250 f4 instead. Comes with original Sigma case and Kenro Digital 82mm filter.

PK+MM GIVEAWAY ENTRY
First let me say I love Pentax! But second let me say that there are just a few gaps in the lens line. I have faithfully stayed with my favorite camera company through many years since the height of the Spotmatic and then the LX era. But now I am faced with a challenge in the new generation of long lenses. And I will only be looking at the Sigma lenses so I am not straying too far away from the farm. This adapter will let me compromise a little to save the love of my life. Help me keep the faith by making this small accommodation to the Pentax family line. There is just no better camera for photographers than a Pentax!

Great report and all good news. Did he have any more specifics on the full frame? For those of us who are getting our K-3's on Monday from B&H we may be a little depressed but it might be good to know what new features we will get to see a year from now when we buy another Pentax/Richo camera! $! $! $

Sigma 17-50mm or 17-70mm?

All three lenses mentioned; 18-70, 18-50 f2.8 and 18-135 have their places. I carry the 18-135 as my standard walk around on my K-5IIs. Both are weatherproof and have a nice balance. Speed of the lens is a bit challenging. Thank goodness I have no objection shooting at 800 ISO. The added reach of the 135mm (agree a little soft but very acceptable) sure comes in handy for isolating subjects or reaching out for nature shots. The 18-50 f2.8 takes over when I head out at night. Has fast, snappy focusing even at low light. Even though the Pentax has built in shake reduction I find the added speed of the 18-50 is very handy for working in lower light. Is a bit "beefy" as far as weight but that's the price you pay for fast aperture and really great light transmission. May be up for sale though when Sigma releases the 18-35mm f1.8 for Pentax. Wicked sharp and even though big will replace the three f1.8's I carry now.
That leaves the 18-70. I have the pre-"Contemporary" version. Even thought he other two get more attention it is still just a really nice, light, sharp lens. If neither of the key features (f2.8 or reach out to 135mm) are critical I would recommend the contemporary 18-70.

Image processor? Which one? Has been an issue (especially with creating HDR....really slow)
Save HDR in RAW format? Rumors were it would...will it?
Selective White Balance! Way too cool, any details (assuming will have to be in JPEG only but can dream of RAW post process option)
Still would like to see ISO bracketing with lower ISO options (makes HDRs so much better)
Bottle opener....okay maybe they can leave that feature out.:D
And amazing that Ricoh cannot get the web site updated with current information. Thought they would fix that problem of the old Pentax site.

Only scary part is a full frame coming out next spring (just upgraded to K-5 IIs last Spring). Oh well what's wrong with ANOTHER camera in the bag (along with the K-10, K-20's and LX's when I feel like film)!

This is one of my favorites from a two year assignment in Korea. Brings together the traditional temple architecture as well as the natural beauty of the mountains in the "Land of the Morning Calm!"

Image was created using Nik Software HDR Efex Pro 2 export from Lightroom 4.3. Fantastic way to combine three exposures and really bring out a great shot. Very fast and easy to do. Selected a strong enhancement to the colors to help bring back some saturation lost due to overcast day. Balanced the final exposure towards the -1 stop image then brought back highlights while creating the HDR image. Additional dodging and burning in Lightroom with some additional sharpening and contrast control as well. Wicked fast to do this in Lightroom verse taking over to Photoshop. Also makes it so easy to go back and adjust previous changes since all work is done in meta data and does not mess with the original image. Plus allowed me to keep all images in the same folders and be able to retrieve easily when needed (like for really cool photo contests....).

Picture from Seoraksan Mountain area (East Coast) of South Korea. Camera was K5 shooting in RAW with Pentax 18-135 and polarizing filter. No tripod, but wish I had to have been able to stop down a bit more for better sharpness.Overcast and rainy day, very low contrast light overall but this picture did get blessed with a bit of sunshine to bring out some color to an overall drab day. Exposure 1/100 at F5.6 (main exposure, camera bracketed two additional shots at -/+ 1 step [shutter speed]) ISO 400, lens set to 24mm focal length. Shake reduction turned on.
