Here's a panorama of some noctilucent clouds last June. Taken with the K-50 and the super tak 28/3.5

PentaxForums Pentax 100th Anniversary Contest/Giveaway Ideas

I'd like the idea of having a contest of photos (with pentax equipment, of course) of something that is just or nearly just as old as Pentax in November to tell a story of 'ageing well' or 'ageing just as well as Pentax has aged'. That would get us to do some background checking and research in addition to the scouting of nice objects and sites and it would allow us to put a century worth of developments and time progressing into perspective and (hopefully) a nice picture. Points go to the degree with which the exact 'birthdate' of Pentax is approached in the object of the photograph, the way in which the ageing story is told (sources to prove the age of the object and an explanation of the ageing story) and the popularity of the picture in a contest. Sounds challenging enough to warrant a nice price and a fair bit of attention.

Dear Photogem,
many thanks for taking the trouble in documenting all this. I really hope that I won't have to use this knowledge on my K-50, but when I have to, it'll be good to know this stuff.
all the best,

Great capture. I like the colors and the drops of water that trail the board and really give it a dynamic feel.

Congratulations with the K-70, but I second what most of the previous writers have said: even with the aperture block failure (mine thankfully hasn't) it is a great camera for maunal shooting, so please consider offering it for someone to (re)use it.

That is quite a significant keychain. That'll be difficult to loose, but still a pity for such a nice camera to end up like that.

I like the lines and the contrast in this one. I'm just puzzled by the title, given that what's up there - the plane - seems out of focus. Taking the shot a few seconds later (so without the plane in it) would work better for me.

I like the B&W conversion; the tones seem OK to me. My only quibble with this photo is the way the man's throat is cut off. From where i'm sitting, including a bit more of the black T-shirt would have made it look even better and complement the black background.

I used Kodak Technical Pan 2415 (at times hypersensitized), but that is B&W and probably only available as old stock nowadays. Good luck with this.

Does this lens have fungus?

Definitely dust and quite possibly some fungus (the elongated patterns). That looks like a pretty beaten up lens. I'd make sure that the dust and fungus are the only problem with it.

Macro Trying to create a water droplet surface texture for macro shot
Posted By HoutHans
Replies: 9

yep, you want the surface of the cup to be water repellent, i.e. apolar such as a tiny bit fatty so that you'll have nice small drops of the apolar fluid and then apply a very fine spray of water. I think that the water droplets would like to collect into bigger drops and that gets easier when they weigh more and find themselves on a sloping or vertical surface. Good luck with this! Sounds like a nice project (both making the cup/mug and making nice photos)

Here's a panorama made of 6 vertical shots with the Super Takumar 28/3.5. shot at around f/8 I think. This was on a fine winter morning over a lake/swampy area close to my home called Roegwold.IMGP7213-Pano.jpg | Hans Vedder | Flickr

Same here, there are so many variables: position of the sun over the horizon, season, cloud cover and reflectivity of the surfaces around you that I wouldn't be able to reproduce the blue hour shots I have.

K-50 buying - please help

This seems like a good deal. I've had my K-50 for a bit under three years now, and no sign of the aperture actuator issue. I've had a few problems with the on/off switch, but that was addressed under warranty. For the rest, its a great little camera that just keeps going on and on, even in damp Norwegian and Scottish conditions. Cleaning the dust shouldn't be a problem at all, so good luck with this and welcome to the club.
