Pentax Q, Q10-IRcut, most Sensitive Sensor ILC
Successfully modded a spare Q by removing it’s IR cut filter glass. Thanks again to goe444’s very detailed instructions that gave me sufficient confidence to proceed.
It wasn’t difficult to perform. Use folded bits of paper post-it notes to steady the sensor box. Use a fresh sharp hobby knife blade. The plastic is softer than I thought it would be. Score it a few times till you feel it pop through. If I were to do it again I might be able to preserve more of the bottom lip of the sensor box frame. I would also have at hand some glass to cover up the sensor ASAP after removing the ir cut filter to reduce chances of contamination.
The rubber gasket under the ir cut filter is not glued in place at the base but lightly adhered to the glass.

As this point the camera is full spectrum, taking in a mix of both the visible and IR light.

My guess is that this is a midrange zoom with PLM focusing. My speculation is that it will be released with the new high end APS-C, which will probably have much more competitive continuous AF and video capabilities.

Need help for amateur wedding and equipment.

At the last wedding I shot, I also took along a Nikon Coolpix W300.
Now this is not the best camera in the world by a long shot, but it does take a decent snapshot and its shock proof.
I gave it to one of the kids around 12 years old and told him to go to town and photograph whatever he wanted of the wedding and reception.
Kids see things in a different way, and what came back was some absolutely great photos of all the kids and also the food. Kids act differently when in front of a pro photographer, but in front of another kid, they seem to relax and be more natural.

Common E-Dial settings seem backwards to me

To pass a restless night, I was just tinkering with my beloved K-1. It's just back from service, with all settings returned to defaults. One of those defaults always bothered me, so it was first priority to reset.

Every two-dial camera I've ever bought comes with the front dial set to control the shutter in Manual Mode, and the rear dial setting the aperture. That seems utterly contrary to me, since the aperture sits several inches in front of the shutter. How did this custom get started? Is there any practical reason for it? Do you reset yours the logical way, as I do?

I called it "The Salieri Syndrome" - Some of you might relate.

The thing to remember is that Salieri-as-villain is fiction. Salieri was extremely influential in purely artistic terms, and his conflict with Mozart was ended by the time Mozart became established in Vienna. After that, they collaborated and were, at the least, mutually respectful colleagues.

Personally, I’d be happy to be a Salieri. I do not need to be a Mozart.

I’m also a mediocre musician. (“Dedicated but untalented” might be a better description.) But I have a good ear for the music I hear, and even professionals trust my opinions in that regard. And I have developed a basic technical competency. I’m happy to be a critic, if the role of critic is to expand horizons. Only a poor critic is negative about what he doesn’t understand, and there is much I don’t understand about new music (and photography) that gets praised critically.

I could get depressed about my own mediocrity, or recognize that my technical accomplishments have given me the tools of appreciation that have enriched my life. The most difficult job artists have is editing their own work.

One more thing: Ansel Adams made tens of thousands of photos in his long career. Only hundreds of them are seen in public. I wonder if he felt disgusted by all the other thousands that now sit in a file cabinet.

Ricoh announced today that Phil's divorce has been delayed until 2019. In a statement released to the media they said "by delaying the DA 11-18 until 2019 we can guarantee a few more months of marriage for Phil. Upon its eventual release though we fully expect Phil to cave in, buy the lens, then be immediately kicked out of his home by a furious wife."

Mysterious lens - what is this? (IR chrystal night vision 0.42x)

I just came across someone selling a lens like this together with some other Pentax K mount lenses. What is it used for? What effects does it give aside from widening the view from the lens its screwed onto?

Is it just a combined focal reducer with an IR filter?
