BTW - Canon and Nikon are also working on hybrid viewfinders.
If this is a 'crazy idea', all the DSLR manufacturers are infected by the 'craziness'.

Including the KP updates alone would would be much more than a 'plain update'; based on the time they are taking they must be putting much more into the K-3ii replacement.

It is your wallet - you can get what they provide or resist.

I didn't see that Norm asked for much more fps than the K-3 already provides.
Since mechanics limits how fast the mirror can flip, MILC would be needed to reach beyond some fps, and we know Norm doesn't want that. :D

Nikon Mirrorless D5 is Coming

I wonder how "MILC equiv of D5" will differ from "MILC equiv of D850" {aka Z-7}.

If I were a Nikon user, I'd be much more interested in new Z-mount lenses and not very concerned about new Z-mount bodies.

I don't know what time period is used by B&H to calculate "best sellers", but on the current list
(1) EOS-M50 is the highest ranked Canon MILC
(2) EOS-M50 is the highest ranked APS-C by any manufacturer.

Four years ago, when I was in the process of replacing my recently deceased Rebel, the EOS-M series looked hopeless; the EOS-M sold poorly and the EOS-M2 was sold only in Asia. I haven't paid much attention to Canon during the past four years, after I switched to Pentax, but they obviously have figured out MILC for APS-C ...... it may take another year or two, but I am fairly certain they will figure out MILC for FF also.

At the moment, the top-ten camera bodies sold by B&H include

EF mount: (1) Canon 5Div, (5) Canon 6Dii

EF-M mount: (6) Canon M-50

EF-S mount: (7) Canon Rebel T6

R mount: (8) Canon 'R'

Their customers will have to start deserting lines before Canon will discontinue any of them.

My KP has the same arrangement as the K-1, so I have one e-dial for each of shutter speed, aperture, and ISO. It's metering is adequately accurate, so I seldom change EC; each of my three Pentax cameras has a button labeled '+/-' ...... so I have no problem figuring out how to quickly change EC if I need to on a one e-dial system {Q-7}, two e-dial system {K-30}, or three e-dial system {KP}. I wouldn't want any of these bodies to be enlarged to accommodate another e-dial.

The EF-S is just a specialization of the EF; if volume of their APS-C DSLR cameras drops off, they could easily discontinue developing new EF-S lenses with no one missing much of anything. In any case, their volume is such that they could easily support all four current mounts.

added: The people who developed the EF/USM mount thirty years ago did a good job; building full-function 'EF to EF-M' and 'EF to RF' adapters was straight-forward, so I really doubt there is much pressure on them to develop native EF-M and RF lens.

That is what I've been saying all along.

I disagree partially. Canon lenses are very good, their bodies not so much.

New K-70 - Metering issues between Live View and OVF

The best solution would be to get the metering fixed.

One alternative solution would be to program a 'User Mode' to set EC to something like +2.5 if that is generally correct.

New K-70 - Metering issues between Live View and OVF

We probably need a separate thread for this issue, since you are not the first to encounter it. Member @RedSky; for example, sent his camera in for repair - they replaced the aperture control mechanism but the problem persisted. When he asked for help here, all he got was advice on dealing with the aperture control mechanism - which just made him mad since that had already been 'fixed'. That is one problem with the aperture control issue - people can't see beyond it and want always to fix it ......even when it isn't the problem.

In your case, is the OVF error sufficiently close that you can get good readings by adjusting the Exposure Control {the +/- EV setting}?

Nature Mother's Flowers

Our current plan is to use landscaping timber to construct a flower bed around the base of the tree - then transplant these flowers into that bed. That way, the flowers - whatever they are - can continue to enjoy the setting my mother intended for them, while limiting the area needing to be weeded in the future. The rest of the area will be seeded in shade-tolerant grass. All this will happen after I finish removing the lower limbs that protected this area from weeding, and then removing the weeds that have made this more temperate jungle than anything else.

To full or not to full (frame) - that is the question

You really shouldn't skip the following two statements

In fact, "better" does depend on what you are doing.

In some situations, most photos of animals for example, pixel density is important, because a small pixel density will force you to use a much longer lens to put as many pixels on the subject. In most cases, this measure favors APS-C.

In all situations, age of sensor makes a big difference - continual progress means that a recent APS-C sensor is better than a FF in every case.

FF cameras tend to weigh more than APS-C cameras; to some of us, that makes a difference.

Yes, recently I've been using my DA 55-300mm PLM + DA 1.4X TC as a single unit. My KP successfully focuses in shade as well as sun, smoothly and reasonably quickly.

The K-30 was my primary camera for 42 months; during that time I took 4013 photos - about 96 per month.
The KP has been my primary camera for 7 months now; during that time I've taken 895 photos - about 128 per month.
I seldom use burst mode, and when I do, I've not yet filled the KP's buffer.

Incidentally, the KP feels like it has much better build-quality than the K-30 does;
Pentax has said that it has a different aperture control than used by the K-30 .... I'm guessing it has same aperture control as K-3.

The KP does high ISO very well
Iso 25600! - PentaxForums.com
Iso 204800 - PentaxForums.com

Most of the time, when I'm photographing animals I limit ISO to 12800, but even that makes TAv mode much more useful - I can select both the shutter speed I want and the aperture I want, and typically be well below my ISO limit..

Are you familiar with auto racing? Several years ago, after a really exciting lap in NASCAR, one of the announcers said something like "We saw more lead changes in the past lap than we have seen in the past 3 Formula One races". That statement was both true and misleading. Formula One largely focuses on technology - each team makes their own cars, and invariably one team has cars better than the others; their best driver will win the 'pole', and if there are no major mistakes, he will lead the entire race. NASCAR largely focuses on competition - there are only a few brands, and before the season their Technology Center comes with an approved version of each car with the intention that they will perform virtually the same; also they have other rules designed to 'bunch the field together'. The result is that even a minor slip - such as an extra second in a pit stop, or missing the optimal path around the track by a few inches - can result in several passes.

The camera world has always been more like Formula One than like NASCAR; once a brand has more customers than another, reversing their positions is very difficult, mainly because of the importance of lens mount. When I purchased my first Pentax in 1979, Pentax was a dominant brand, but they slipped not once, but twice; I believe the most important slip was in how they went to AF - I believe history will show that Canon's abrupt change to the EF-mount totally rewrote the rules; how the change to digital was handled also did not help Pentax. Perhaps you can blame long-since retired Asahi management for Pentax's current market position, but not current Ricoh management for not pulling a rabbit out of the hat and magically switching positions with Canon.

This is a nice photo, but honestly I've never thought of lizards having such 'active' emotions as "happy" - "contented" perhaps, but not "happy".
