I bet Ricoh will invest, develop and focus in future only in mirrorless cameras for the consumer market! I doubt the mirror flapping issues will ever get resolved.

If I'd go for Panasonic then just because of the GH4 with it's video capabilities. They make great hybrid machines for that purpose. If you go for fotography only I'd choose at least APS-C or FF. I travel a lot, so small size and little weight is an issue as well. There are so many good cameras out there, I think one has to choose what SYSTEM suits you best for a longer time.

Wow! Not a miracle, but a "Pentaxian" who obviously feels disturbed in his comfort or honour, what ever. I did somehow expect this mouthfull! And how quick and easy a super, super intelligent guy judges on people he doesn't know.... How ever I had a good laugh. The "retailer" I was refering is a good friend of mine, a professional fotographer, world-traveller, author and owner of a chain of fotoshops and they sell all brands. What I wanted to say is, if people who realy know the business and may be a little bit more, have some reservations about a brand or a particular model, then the manufactorer should get alarmed. Who knows, may be they are, may be not. I produce myself some products and I monitor very close what customers think about it, what suggestions they make or wishes they have. Of course on a billion smaller scale, but the mechanisms of maintaining, improving and marketing a product are about the same. Thank you... I will now stop for a while here.... (don't want to cause a war) but will let you know what my new equipment will be then in due time.... I'm already looking forward seeing the comments then..... LOL! (Just booked my hotelroom for the Photokina in Germany)

I was yesterday at my retailer's place in Switzerland (I know the guy since 35 years) and talked to him about buying a new video and foto-equipment for my SE-Asia and Pacific expeditions, starting next year (I have 4 choices, the K3, the Nikon D7100 or D610 and the Fujifilm X-T1 - the X-100s comes anyway with me). He told me straight away he could not recommend right now the K3 with clear conscience, since they cause to many problems, although he admits, if they should manage to resolve all the issues, not just the mirrorflapping, in a considerable time (say until the Photokina in Germany end of September?) and together with the WR lens-setup, it could be one of the best APS-C and most complete cameras available for outdoor and travel fotographers. They should take more time for testing and offer a proper customer oriented service! May be all there resources went into the new 645Z or are they any way not interested in the K3 and work on something complete new to come out soon? Some times miracles happen....

K-3 mirror flutter - REPLY FROM RICOH

Makes much sense... only it is not just the K3 or K5II, it happens also with the K20 and this since 2008 according to a German DSLR Forum. They also suggested a problem in the voltage circuit). Either Pentax/Ricoh ignored the proplem since then or they could not solve it and this is a pritty long time. (The Pentax DSLR's get produced in Cebu, Philippines (I live there) and the lenses in Vietnam).

Interesting here to note that some of the forum members try to declare this (in my opinion serious) lack of reliability into the corner of "random" issues and triviality. This seems to be a typical trait of Ricoh/Pentax and there hardcore believers. I consider such attitude at least as questionable.

Pentax has a + 50MP Camera, the 645 Z - no need to squeeze + 36 mp on a small APS-C sensor. Qualitywise, with large prints, the Fuji X-100S/16 MP comes near FF quality with + 24 MP's. The printmedia and the Know how for printing is as important. 14-bit RAW is a must.

Yes, I think you have a point there - the user degrated as tester - the cheapest and most efficient way to find the bugs of new equipment at the costs and nerves of the client. It is common, but I still don't accept such tactics, what leaves me, of course, usually not with he newest models.... the problem is, once you have invested in expensives lenses you are stuck more or less to a brand... one of the main reasons for all the different mounts.

K3 vs Sony A7: which one will you buy for the same price?

The K3 and the A7 are not comparable. If you want to compare then the K3 or K5IIs with the A77ii or the Fujifilm X-T1. The key differences for me are: The K*s are realy "rugged" and the batterygrips take AA cells, what is a huge advantage if you go to the "bush" for weeks (the X-T1 lacks this, unfortunately!!). The A77* does not accept AA cells but does videos in 60p what is very nice. May be in the near future there will be a K3II without mirrorflapping and 60p videorecording; this would be then the best APS-C DSLR ever... If one can afford... of course go for FF

... and I'd advise them to solve first the problems with the K3 before they start new things. May be they will burry the K3 and bring a K3II like Nikon who did it with the d600/610.

Agree, it is supposed to be the best available APS-C expedition camera ever... but...... I can't understand Ricoh/Pentax somehow trapping again in this mirror issue, particularly since they have/had the same issue with the K5 already ... the only comparable alternative could be the Nikon D7100 BUT they also have an issue with dirt and (oil) spots on the sensor the same like the D600 had. Have to wait now and hope once the words gets out the problem is solved. Meanwhile I use a borrowed Pansonic GH3 and soon a Fuji X-100S I always wanted to have.

The mirroflappingproblem occured already 2011 with the K5 and Pentax could not pinpoint the problem and it also got never officially acknowledged.
Now the same with the K3! And the same ignorance...
This issue will be disastrous for Ricoh/Pentax. The "shit" starts realy to hit the fan now .....

Is the new Sony A77 the real competitor to Pentax K-3?

Nikon offers already 2 bodies - what Sony tries to achieve with one: The Nikons D5300 and the D7100. Most probably they will do some model care for both in the future. The only gamechanger in the APS-C market and for certain users, could be the since long expected Fujifilm X-pro2. What is noticable almost all brands try to clean out there lineup of bodies in favour of new lenses.

Sony goes more for the hybrid marked (foto & video). A K3 with 60p and without "mirroflapping" would beat any other APS-C system.....

They all cooperate in certain fields together. Sony delivers sensors (made in China) to Pentax and others. Panasonic, Pentax work together developing a organic sensor, Sony produces the A 5300 for Nikon etc. It is about the same as in the Automobilindustry. Only Fujifilm produces it's own exclusuiv sensor but I bet they get some other components from the same places as Nikon, Sony, Canon etc.

Honestly, a Fujifilm X-T2 which is AA-battery compatible, which has all the features from the X-100S and 2 card slots would be perfect for me too......(love the wheels... )

I'm not bewandered in electronics, but it could be somwhere a single isolated faulty chip or conductor, a wire, somewhere along the powerflow of the battery and a micro-motor or other mechanical part. Not necessarily a mistake or faulty element built by Pentax/Ricoh itself but by a supplier. How ever, something MUST trigger the flapping, to find out is a matter and a must for a search team from Pentax/Ricoh. Hearing (we all don't know realy), they don't even know or deny the problem, rises some more questions, also about the general attitude towards the consumer at the end of the line and shit does always hit the fan if things are not communicated honest, well or not at all. Hope some Pentax/Ricoh guys with influence read all this here. Cheers and happy shooting.....

I'm just guessing - but could it be a overheating issue? When overheated, electronic components can play crazy.........
