New K-series DSLR under development to be exhibited

The thing that displeases me about the appearance of DSLRs is their chunkiness, and the main offender responsible for that is the depth. And it's not only the grip, but the entire area around the lens mount.

W x H x D

K2 144 x 92 x 57

K3 131.5 x 100 x 77.5

K5 130.5 x 96.5 x 72.5

KP 131.5 x 101 x 76

But numbers don't tell the whole story. According to the above, the KP is larger than the K5, in every dimension! Have a look at both of those bodies side by side, and tell us if you agree. Note that the K2 is shorter and significantly thinner than any of the DSLRs, and accordingly looks slender. Give me a DSLR that looks like a Leica M series, and I'd find it hard to resist.

There's no point in giving perfectly valid technical and physical reasons for the cunky appearance of the DSLRs - I understand all that. I'm merely saying that I much prefer the slender look of old.

Even before that period (i.e. the days of MX, ME, etc), we had K2, we had FM, FE, Leicas, and others, and compared to today's forms, they were all small and slim, without grips. Oh, those were the days:) Some years back I bought a Leica Digilux 2, largly because it resembled a "normal" camera.

All this talk about camera being too small... What did you people do in film days? Just about all non-pro bodies would have been smaller than today's balloons.

I am aware that some manufacturers restrict access to spare part, and I've wondered about the legality of such a practice. Given all the anti-trust legislation that already exists, etc, I can't imagine this would pass scrutiny.

I can't recall, but it would have been closed anyway;)

And yet another event... I thought I had lost an 18K gold bracelet of reasonable mass, only to one day hear clanking in the washing machine. You can guess the rest:)

I had a similar experience, and I thought my Swiss Army Knife was stolen during international travel (as some other stuff had vanished in the past). I found my knife inside a shoe, years later!

While we're on the subject:

Much of today's society is somewhat gullible, and the above is an example. Another aspect of this is the belief that only the manufacturer is able to properly service a watch. Somehow people have been led to believe that you cannot be a competent repairman (watchmaker, in this case) if you don't work for the manufacturer or at least a large company.

Please excuse the rant.

What is 'correct' exposure ?

The fact that often there is no single correct exposure becomes very obvious when doing post-processing. Sometimes I look at a low contrast image and I like it. Then I make some changes, producing a high contrast image, and I like that too, and it is hard to choose what is better.

Then again, more often than I'd like, I go back to an image I PP'ed in the past, and I ask myself what the hell I was thinking:)

Yes, but...

I suspect that some of these high ISO images would not pass a pixel peeping test. More importantly, this may not apply to sporting events, but there are situations that benefit from maximum dynamic range, which you do not get at ISO 8000.

Nice, but somewhat expensive for a little thing like that...:)

That would be a little bit different, because you want a black tux to come out, well, black. Plus, on a pro stint they can use reflectors where necessary.
