Which lens to get?

If you want to hear any accurate recommendations, voice how much money you're willing to spend on a lens.
Oh, nevermind, you wrote less than $500. In that case I think the Sigma 50-500 could be worth looking into, it can be had for about this much and it's an AF lens.

10 fps with 61MP, lul. If anything, I'd be reluctant to hold the shutter button merely on the basis of how much time it will take to go through all those dang pictures in post.

Hopefully they all catch up on this technology.

Look, I'm really happy to hear your experiences, but I don't see how that invalidates the point. Having the ability to charge via USB is objectively an advantage, maybe not for you, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice to have.

You can have both, you know. Removable battery and USB charging. I'd rather have the ability to top off the battery off a power bank when there's no 110-240V grid in sight than not.

A dedicated ISO button or the ability to remap the expo compensation button for that. God, I hate switching it the way it is: press a button, turn the dial with the same finger you pressed the button with, press a different button from the one you pressed before. It's a nightmare in an otherwise highly ergonomic and comfortable camera.

I'd say the entire Canon M system exists for that reason specifically.

I'd suggest looking into Windows-based offerings (Acer Swift 5 and Asus Zenbook) as they offer far better bang for the buck.

Does the zoom ring move? If not, it's in travel position, there's a small round button on the zoom ring, hold that and rotate the ring.

Nothing ambiguous to me, tbh. He refers to the lens as the "guy".

I wouldn't be so sure. Humans are far more prone to error than a properly set up robot, after all.

What camera are you using? My K-70 sure shows me blown highlights with a red spike on the right end of the histogram.
-----EDIT-----
Just noticed it's in the K-70 branch.
Try going to Settings --> Photo 5 --> Instant Review
There set the display time you're comfortable with, check "Histogram Display" and "Highlight Alert". Now whenever you take a picture, it should pop up on the back of your screen with histogram and blinkies.
If you want to have them in playback some time after, press INFO whilst in playback mode and choose "Histogram Display". To turn the blinkies on, press Menu in playback mode --> LCD Display --> check "Highlight alert".

In this entire assumption of yours. You literally took 2 data points and built an entire statement off of them alone saying how MILCs aren't doing well. That doesn't mean a thing. Camera sales aren't doing well in general, MILC sales are doing okay even if you don't take the shrinking market into consideration.

Should I buy a DA☆300 F4 instead of 55-300PLM?

Based on how the photos out of my PLM+K-70 look. It definitely doesn't outresolve the sensor. Frankly, I don't think the DA* does either.
Have I compated the images? Yes, although not in an accurate way as I don't have the money for a DA* 300. The DA* looks plain better, except for maybe bokeh, but that's a matter of preference.
Like I said, compare 1:1 images, not 4x downsampled ones.

That isn't true afaik. Nikon's profit was and still is on the decline. It's not that they're losing money, they're just not making as much as they used to, at least not yet.

Not denying that, which is why i think Nikon is the most likely player to backpedal out of this entire MILC venture. Aside from maybe Panasonic, but they're coming from a different spot.

You missed the point entirely and I'm not sure what you think I'm defending. What I imply is extrapolating off of 2 data points is a bad practice, no matter how you slice it. If you don't see the trend of MILCs increasing their market share throught the last 3 years, I don't know if suggesting glasses would be enough.

Do you expect them not to?
I don't think there are too many people who would exchange great AF capabilities for an optical viewfinder that doesn't even stay clean.

That's some poor data interpretation. This kind of logic would lead you to conclusions like "MILC ARE TOAST, SALES ARE PLUMMETING" back in 2014 based on the numbers from 2012-2014 range.
If anything, this chart shows that MILCs are doing quite well - they keep their numbers pretty stable in an ever shrinking market. Can't say the same about DSLRs. Also, considering that Canikon are developing their new MILCs at the expense of their DSLRs, unless at least one of them backpedals out of it, there simply won't be a manufacturer to sell DSLRs in considerable numbers in a decade at this rate.
The future is mirrorless. Whether there's room for any of the current big DSLR players is a different matter.

The D500 was primarily popular amongst wildlife shooters, afaik, something Pentax isn't very good at due to a number of reasons. I also don't think that people sitting on F glass would switch systems, not to mention many (most?) wouldn't even know of Pentax releasing a new camera.

If you're referring to the PLM, I don't think so. It definitely doesn't outresolve a 24MP sensor.

I'm not sure what you need, but anyone who shoots birds needs as much sharpness as possible. Sure, if birds in your area rub their snouts against your forehead, you probably don't need it. That's not the case for most people, though.
There's no way a photo from a PLM will look no worse than the same photo from a DA* with shutter speed being equal at least due to higher ISO, let alone actual optical performance of the lens. Sure, if you downsample a 6000x4000 photo to be shown in web at 1500x1000 that difference will likely walk out the window. Once you start cropping a 1500x1000 image out of a 6000x4000 image, the difference will be very pronounced.
The DA* trades some flexibility at the shorter end in exchange for flexibility in cropping.

The 300 F4 is in a completely different league IQ-wise. If Image Quality is all you're after, then it's a no brainer. Bear in mind, however, that you lose lightning fast AF, compactness and weight, not to mention that it costs at least 2 PLMs.

Lenses between F1.2 to F2.0

There's a number of reasons.

1)Apertures this wide don't work well with zooms and are therefore reserved for primes
2)Apertures this wide don't work too well with long focal lenghts due to very shallow DoF
3)Considering that most lenses with these apertures are primes, there's only so many primes that make sense in terms of product spacing and actual usage before being too long to be useful
4)Such lenses are quite expensive and considering that Pentax primarily caters to enthusiasts and not pros with stratospheric demands, they probably wouldn't sell that well

UVs serve no point other than protection and if a lens has a hood, I don't bother.

GPUs dying in PCs tend to produce similar symptoms. Wouldn't be surprised if the processor has died in the camera.
