Vivitar Series 1 Macro Club

I used it at an event (night) under tungsten lighting condition, during which i found the issue. I am wondering if the tungsten FF issue in AF (I have a K-r) also manifests when focus is set manually in such conditions (beeping when the camera thinks its in focus (catch in focus), since thats what i rely on) . I later tried shooting some pictures in daylight (macro and portraits) and they came out just fine.

Will post some samples shortly

I own the Viv S1 105/2.5 and been having a tough time getting good pictures with it. Admittedly I have used it quite less and that too not for its primary purpose (macro). My understanding is that macro lens are very good for portraits too (albeit sharper). Can anyone tell me if i am doing something wrong here. I have mostly tried shooting at f4/f5.6 and the main problem has been getting the focus spot on (and subsequently sharpness). I use a pentax k-r and try to use catch focus to get the focus spot on

These were all taken during the afternoon/late afternoon on a Summer day. The f-stop on all the pics was either f5.6 or f8. I get constant underexposure with m42 lenses on my k-r so I always have +2 EV when using m42 lenses.

Having had a pentax k10d for a good 4 years I never used catch in focus. Having just received the k-r which has the option in the camera to enabled catch in focus, i just started using it with my manual camera. wow. I cant believe i havent used this for this long.My manual lenses (k28/3.5 , flektogon 35/2.4, vivitar s1 105, tamron sp 70-210/3.5) will be getting a lot more use for sure.

Got my k-r over the weekend and have been really happy with it. Coming from a k10d the focusing, operation time, metering is WAY improved. Its a much lighter camera as well. Havent had a chance to test AF under tungsten light as such but i don't normally use the camera under such circumstances so i dont care.

Good job pentax

pentax k10d vs k-r metering

Hi guys

I hav been using the k10d for over 3 years now. Just pulled the trigger on the k-r. Was wondering about the metering differences between the 2. Can anyone who has had a k10d previously and bought a k-r/k-r comment on this. Is metering more predictable (less over exposure/under exposure). Also I have a few K/m lenses. how is the stop down metering behavior with the k-r/k-r.

dropped my k10d and broke the hotshoe mount. also doing lot of indoor /low light photography and could use the high iso capabilities of the new cameras.

Upgrading from the k10d to either k-x/k-r

Thanks guys
Yep, not necessarily an upgrade but a 2nd body. the other reason for wanting a new cam is that my camera recently fell with flash attached taking out the hotshoe base along with it (flash is fine mysteriously)

looks like i will be getting a k-r next month ;)

Hi guys
upgrading my trusted k10d to either the k-r/k-x. i was set on the k-x but see that k-r corrects the minor flaws like selected af points not visible in VF , higher fps. DxO reports suggests k-x is slightly better at higher iso. Coming form k10d which is not really usable over 800, will i notice this small difference. Also i like that with the k-r both AA as well as custom battery can be used so thats a definite plus

thanks for your kind words. Will surely post it in the kit lens club. I have been using the kit lens a lot lately and its definitely a fine lens (much more than people give it credit for).
