Of course, in the UK, once we leave the EU, we shall return to proper British gravity (not this feeelthy foreign rubbish that has been foisted upon us), not to mention pounds and ounces; miles, yards and feet; pounds shillings and pence, and Steam Railways, and Britain will once more take her rightful place in the nineteenth century.

Thanks for this.

No, nothing at all is displayed anywhere except the 'battery depleted' icon on the top display - nothing else has any effect, and I didn't even get that when it was connected to the mains adapter.

I realise repair is prohibitive - so, I now have a hi-tec doorstop !

Cheers all

Update.

Left for 72 hours with charged battery - no improvement.

Tried with mains adapter - still nothing.

Has anyone any idea whether a failed firmware upgrade might produce these symptoms, or, if that were the case, would the camera be totally dead ?

At least, with summer on its way, I will have a sturdy doorstop, if nothing else.

Once again, my thanks for the suggestions

Thanks for the cleaning suggestion - I'll have a go tomorrow, when there may (if we're lucky !) be some daylight around.

Thanks for the suggestion - tried genuine Pentax and clones. Problem slightly different to yours - camera indicates battery depleted with any battery I've tried, even straight from K20D.

If it is backup battery, any suggestions as to how to sort it, please ? If powered from mains, might that help, do you think ?

Thanks Chris - already tried that too, both with and without internal battery - same result.

Cheers

Sorry, not explaining myself well.

No battery - no response of any kind. All dials rotate as they should.

With battery - only response is battery depleted flashing. Screen doesn't light up, no indications in viewfinder, no response from menu or any other button. Same thing with or without lens (tried different batteries, different lenses, no lens - always the same).

Cheers

Thanks, Docwrm

Unfortunately, no - nothing works at all. All controls seem to be operative, but no response from the body, with or without lens attached. Don't have mains lead to see if that makes any difference, though I suppose I could get one, as it'll fit K20D as well.

Just bought, at a bargain price, used K10D. Vendor specifically mentioned battery issue (showing depleted battery), but felt it might be the battery fitted. I took a risk, but the same thing occurs with other batteries which work in my K20D. Battery obviously being recognised as present, since without it nothing happens at all. Contacts look clean in battery chamber. Has anyone any suggestions (I have no skill - probably negative skill - in DIY repairs) before I try to find out how much a repair would set me back, please ? Or have I just spent 40 on a doorstop for the warmer weather ?

Thanks

Tony

Took my pet lion for a walk on the beach on Christmas Day.

Then had to take him to the vet.

In Norwich market, amongst the purveyors of exotic provender, there is a stall advertising that the proprietor stocks cheese varieties from all over the world.

Today, I enquired whether he had any cheese emanating from the Holy Land.

With a catch in his voice, and a tear in his eye, he regretfully and sadly informed me that his stock was deficient in that respect.

Strange - at this time of year, I would have expected to be able to obtain cheeses of Nazareth.

Dave,

Sorry to take issue with you on this point, but according to British Standards, filters are 'Optically Flat'. However, if you take these parameters and extrapolate, you end up with a sphere some 50 miles in diameter. Therefore, according to British Standards, the Earth is Optically Flat.

K-1 SD card problem

Cards can get corrupted when put into a card-reader without write-protect being set. In this case, the computer may add information to the card, invisible to the user, that prevents the camera writing to it. Whenever I put a card into the card-reader, I always set write-protect - it is possible that this how the OP's card became corrupted in the first place.
