Just to clarify... You never thought that the way camera consumers use their equipment is important to people who develop cameras? Sounds like a pile of sh*te to me

Lol... What other camera called a Pentax Q is a Pentax Q?

Ridiculous question.... Who has ever set a 1/1.7 sensor as their primary purchasing requirement for a camera...

---------- Post added 03-20-18 at 04:04 AM ----------

$1200 isn't allot to you, but it's a considerable investment for allot of people, particularly hobbyists.

Why should I have bought a video camera? What user buys a video camera in this day and age? I have a full suite of lenses suitable for video and still photography, but no body capable of keeping up with current usage patterns in the consumer market...

It's unfortunately a relic of the past... I love the camera, but need good video, good stabilisation, external microphone... And an internal battery that doesn't sh*t itself...

Unfortunately, I've moved to another system already after spending a small fortune on my Q body and lenses... If there was some hope of a more up to date body I would have hung in...

Well... its done.

I am leaving the wonderful world of Pentax & have ordered a Canon M system camera. It's nothing against the Q, it's actually a fantastic system and super versatile for someone like me who travels so much and needs a camera in their work. I'm going to take on a mini project involving video, so my Q is going to suffer...

If anyone is interested in a Q Body, 01, 02, 03, 08 please let me know. I'm particularly gonna miss the 08.

Thanks guys. The issue isn't the battery, it's that my needs require me to use an external microphone.

It's a shame... I love my Q, but might have to sell it to fund another system... I really don't want to start again & have to buy a bunch of lenses...

I haven't used the Q in ages... since the internal battery failed and I wasn't able to get it repaired...

I have a new little movie project, which involves social media, a collection of GoPro's and a drone. Don't worry, it doesn't involve any vlogging or influencing... I'd really like to get a more substantial camera into the mix & I've got a nice collection of lenses for the Q... I'm considering trying to pick up an S1 body for some of the more direct facing with the camera. I like the fact that it has image stablisation, bokeh/depth of field and active focus, but can it accept an external microphone?

So... I'm sure that the Q has been discontinued... Time for me to complete my collection.

Can anyone recommend the best/cheapest place for me to pick up an S1 body & 06 lens? Country of origin is irrelevant as I'll have to get it to Dubai anyway...

I already have the Q, 01, 02, 03, 08 and some accessories... The S10 body will give me wider wide angles (my main use) and be useful for video, as it has autofocus...

The theater around christmas is mostly pagan anyway... the Christians only added their story over existing European traditions... But it's a lovely family time and brings a positive message, so all is good. Enjoy Qristmas everyone!!!

It's nice to witness the hope of innocence... I think the signs; selling off lenses at huge discounts; de-listing the system on their website, could be interpreted as abandonment of the line. I hope not, but fear so.

Uh Oh...

Anyone know where the cheapest place online is to pick up a 06 lens?

Also, I have the original Q with 01, 02, 03, 08... Was planning to get a new body at some stage, should I try to pick up an S1 now? Not sure how long I should expect my Q to remain operational... I was hoping for a new model to be launched to add features and allow me to make more use of the wide angle lens.

Imo... regarding westerners not buying into the fun element and buy big spec cameras... it seems that canikon have bullied them into that position through aggressive marketing... most people I know with DSLR cameras can't take a decent photo to save their lives... they are beginning to realise this and are abandoning cameras altogether for phones... Pentax are suffering from that marketing even though they didn't participate in the falicy, but I'd imaging Nikon and Canon are also feeling it now

Got the camera back from repair today... he said that he had spent over three hours on it, the boards are wired rather than using more modern techniques, the battery had no information to allow him swap it like for like... in the end he didn't fix it, said I should either get a new memory card board or forget about it... simply too much trouble to replace...

I'm gonna collect mine today...

On a side note, I'd be okay if there was an option to turn off the constant reminder every time you turn on the camera.

I'm just being pedantic, ignore me... I don't necessarily want an EVF, but they do need to find a much better way to allow viewfinding, the current screen is mostly invisible to me much of the time.

I'd prefer a high res screen that is viewable in sunlight. Touch Screen is fine once I also have my physical controls. Articulating screen (whether limited or fully articulating) is not a priority for me.... and of course Pentax should listen to me!!! ;)

Understood

But you do understand that it makes the camera bigger...

... I thought size was the critical value point...?

much larger? as large as an articulating screen and additional tripod... I'm not disagreeing, just thing your points don't make allot of sense to me.

One of the big selling points for me is the physical controls. It is old-school and gives a creative bent to the Q that many other cameras lack. If I wanted an iPod style camera, I'd get the Nikon J1, with no controls. If Pentax do put a touch screen on the Q, I hope it is just for menu options rather than camera control.

These guys are old school Indian repair people. They are low tech, but actually generally do a very good job. They work on much more complex equoipment than my Q. Even if they do it up, they'll find a way to make it right... It comes from a culture of repair & value... they aren't highly sophisticated, but neither are they bound by silly union rules... I'm almost 23% sure they'll do a great job ;)

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I agree that it might be a cell battery. I've found a repair shop that will be cheap, so I'll drop it in over the weekend and let you know how I get on.

www.repairingcamera.com does exactly what it says on the tin...

TBH, if they can't/don't add EVF, I'd be happy with a high quality screen that is readable in bright light... this is one of my main issues currently as I live in the desert in The Middle East at the moment & seeing the screen is difficult allot of the time.

My wish list:
Improved screen quality
WiFi would be great
Better Video
No Touch Screen... I like the manual controls,,, it's a rarity these days
Metal Body

My uses are actually covered by the lens options currently available... Although I have yet to receive and try my 08. But additional lenses are always welcome.

Every time I turn on the camera it asks me to set the time & date... This has been happening for a couple of years, but I realised that it is actually stopping me from using the camera.

Is there an internal battery that is drained or is it a software issue? Should I try a firmware change? is it down to how the memory cards are formatted? I'm really lost & I'd appreciate any advice...
