The B models would be very old. I may be possible to upgrade the H models to J.

Cool! That one is a C130H. Even so, it was delivered to the RSAF in 1980 and is flying with 122SQN! It's almost 40 years old. Apparently they have been upgraded with new avionics. It's a bit odd to see shiny paint on a C130. Normally the paintwork is matte to reduce visibility.

I like how the DOF isolates the ant on the top of the mushroom. Personally I'd like a little more DOF, but I know how challenging the conditions are with such photos.

Nice shot! Possible a C130E? The C130J has the newer "scimitar" prop blades.
[edit] I checked Wikipedia - either a B or H. From Planespotters, 725 is a C130B.

Nice shots of Brushtails! It's a while since I last saw one, although I hear them having arguments now and then.

 I also photographed a "By the wind sailor", which I've never seen before. On previous trips to the beach, I've seen Glaucus atlanticus, which predate on Bluebottles. There's another excuse to wander the interwebs for you. :p

Exactly! I have been stung in the past, and it's not an experience I'd like to repeat. Mind you, preferable to a sting from a Sea Wasp or Irukandji.

How about a few hundred along the high water mark? I must find the photo I took years ago where beach at the high tide line was blue with literally thousands of them.

Thanks! I linked some info above about a couple of other creatures which regularly appear on the beaches. :)

If you're using manual lenses, then you'll need to set the focal length when you mount the lens. This won't work for the Sigma 8-16. :(

In the ACT, volunteers are setting up arrangements where the treatment is applied when the wombats go in and out of their burrows. You're probably right about farmers - although it could be seen as humane, it will lead to local extinctions. :(

Nice shot! We have so many wallaby species, but it's weird that there's only one member of Wallabia, being Wallabia bicolor, the Swamp Wallaby. In the ACT we have both Swamp Wallabies and Red-necked Wallabies. Theoretically there should be Rock Wallabies, but as far as I know, they're locally extinct in the wild. In eastern Australia, I've only seen Rock Wallabies at Jenolan Caves.

Great photo! Sad to see so many wombats suffering though. There's work being done to try to treat them in the wild.

Pretty much. Kangaroos are the grass-eating equivalents of deer in North America, and in ancient New Zealand the Moa took this role. The ubiquity of kangaroos increases if you include more of the macropods (big feet) such as Wallabies, Padamelons and Potoroos. Kangaroos are mainly found in open forest, grassland and desert. The Wallabies, Pademelons and Potoroos are more restricted to denser rainforest, woodland or heath. Where humans have created grassland (such as this area near the sea, or more often pasture for cattle and sheep), kangaroos tend to multiply, especially if there's areas of forest where they can rest.
