The attacks?

Because an entertainer doesn't like your camera?

Is this even what we are talking about anymore.

It's a little concerning a lot here seem so insecure and defensive. Especially in something as frivolous as if your camera is "liked" by some entertainer (they are on youtube right?)

Rest easy everyone, Just, make, pictures :)

True I will get around to that.

Well just out of curiosity I went and picked up a cheapy Photocopier 5D.

First impressions after being bread on pentax stuff for ever?

1) Testing with ye old flash, I get coverage at 1/250th with a trailing curtain (advertised 1/200th) Noice.

2) The larger viewfinder is welcomed. It's no Spotmatic cinema, but its a nice increase over the Pentax

3) Stock focus screen works and meters well with ye old lenses. I had trouble with the pentax actually and replaced the screen with an EE-s before it functioned.

4) The boot time is welcomed, well there is none. You flick a switch and you are there. The Pentax had its SR thing to wake up, along with a short bios load. we are talking short but I've found myself staring at the 5D screen waiting for it to come one when no, it's already on. No need for "Canon" logi's to appear.

5) No real noticeable image penalty yet when using 55mm and 50mm Taks. And I'm not sure if that's a credit to the Photocopier or a slap to the Pentax..

6) The settings menu is adorable. It feels like a really nice programmable calculator. Everything is one page, and the custom function menu consists of all the items as a list in rows on one page list (about 16 options) where you select between 0 and 1 for turning settings on and off. :P

7) It feels more like a late model film camera then an early digital? is that a weird thing to say out-loud? All the controls are available with the use of the twin scroll wheels, you need not take your eye out of the viewfinder, or dig into a menu / back screen for anything. To be fair I can't think of anything I used on the screen to confirm with the pentax.. actually maybe just drive modes and white balance at times.. I feel like some settings where just convenient that way, anyway Id appears that I won't need to look at the 5D screen for anything other then checking focus and histograms.

8) It's certainly bigger. but not enough to be a concern. Build quality feels about the same, they say these things don't like the rain. We will see :P

9) with a ye old school 512meg memory card, you get just proud of 36shoots, just like the olden days XD

Anyway, from how I use digital cameras, this feels more like a film camera, and I'm enjoying that at the moment.

VIV LA TAKING PHOTOS! :)

Ah yes tried all the "restore factory defaults" and firmware reset just because.

Have been running it without SR for some time now, it started to play up probably 12months ago. So , yeah, all things considered, she's done well :)

Its a DA 35mm f2.4! The Plastique Fantastique!

The only 35mm you will ever need - Google Photos

These little dudes are just great. optically fantastic. weighs nothing, will be with you as you climb the craziest mountains and traverse the silliest of places.

This is my preferred do everything lens. When travelling, I usually go through that same silly process of trying to decide with "gear" to bring. I have a slight nervous break down, wake up to myself and then and just take this.

Focus's quick. Bought it new from... somewhere? might have been BH, that sounds familiar?

I've been told this also covers the FF image circle, what a great addition to your bigger K!

When forced to take but one, this wins every time. Wonderful little nugget.

It's a trio of the mythical DA Stars!

I was so excited to finally get my hands on these, they really are the only lenses you could ever need.

Trio of Da* - Google Photos

I know we all say that all the time but having been bread on ancient MF glass, I was slow to warm up to auto-happiness. I held the view at the time that a single prime would ultimately be "better" (what ever that means) for everything.

That's just silly, they are tools, and different jobs require different tools, simple as that. Optically, these are great. Simple as that.

The following are for sale at $350each.

## Sold
DA* 16-50 f2.8 (s=9044236)
SDM functional, warms up after a few infinity pulls (focus in the distance then on your hand) and she is right to go. Optically it has been great, cosmetically good.

## Sold
DA* 50-135 f.28 (s=9001146)
SDM disabled. it was slow, now it's fast again. Noise isn't that bad, I've used it in sacred settings and musical performances often, all without a complaint or anyone noticing. With a meaningfully looking bit of kit people here at least are polite. Optically these things are just stupid. Just incredibly for the range you have available and the quality it produces.

## Sold
DA* 200 f2.8 (s=9031726)
SDM disabled, I paid way to much for this and argued with the original seller about a refund. Turns out he had nuked the firmware and it didn't work whilst selling it in "Great Condition...." Re-installing the lens firmware and it's a treat. Arguably a little quieter then the 50-135, but pretty much the same. Again, optically it makes the 200mm of yesteryear feel soft. Should be noted that the DA200 has an image circle that will be happy with the FF K's I will probably miss this one the most.

Further images available if you desire.

Oh, Hoods and caps included.

$15 postage within AU and $30 over the oceans. Will reserve to right to re quote postage if you end up with more then one of these (unlikely it will be much more but hey, Aus post is a weird beast)

Local pickup after work available (Strathfield)

Cheers,

No idea, maybe an ancient cheap 5D just for giggles. But most likely a K3.

We are gathered here to mark the passing of a faithful little body that has travelled with me, heck, for 5 years?

It was bought prior loved with an intermediate fault of the SR system failing, and today, just in time for Christmas, it has finally given up.

Asking of it to capture a Indian Minor with it's child perched the with the sun shining toward it was to much. It finally let go. Activating the shutter now has it locked in a clickclikclicklickclick techo styles dance where you can only regain control by pulling the battery.

The we ol' thing captured a bunch of moments. To many friends, to many pleasant memories, heck it saw my engagement.

Ye K5 with Serial 3842406, with 33,727 images under your belt (I'm sure one of you nerds is keeping track of when these things die), I thank you.

Yes there is hope!

They are really simple to service. But since you appear apprehensive, go find a broken SMC tak to practice with! The aperture mechanism if I remember correctly sits at the back, you only have to remove one combined element group and then you have access to it.

It's usually just a matter of taking the blades out, and cleaning them with grog, take your time, put it back together and BAM!

When you mean barely moving at all, even when the aperture is set to "M"

Cheers,

You can do it. :)

Yep, pretty much what Glenn said.

I had another funny issue tonight however, it would not fire my radio triggered flashes without the on-board flash itself being ejected and firing. :S Never had such an issue prior, and I only stumbled upon the solution in desperation looking for another light source.

He.

Again most of these with the M35 f2.8.

Just lol at this thread in general :P

But since AF is programed to detect edges, it is certainly the fur with its confusing pattern that kills the AF. Grab a patch of contrast, eye, ear, dark patch on the tail... ah who em I kidding. F8, iso 128k s/1000 and spray :P

Spent a day walking the Key Summit trail (out near Milford Sound) Beautiful 6km~ walk up a hill to get wonderful views.

At the car park there I was with the DA* 16-50, DA* 50-135, and with the M35 f2.8 once more. After a bit of camera roulette, and packing the bag a couple of times whilst the misses was wearing sunscreen, I ended up once again, like I have all holiday, leaving the DA's in the car, attaching the M35 to the ye old K5, throw a polarising filter in the pocket and done.

And it was perfect. There really wasn't a vista where the 35mm wasn't wide enough. And forget about fast glass. The thing was set to f8, and its hyper-focal distance (4.5m, giving me Infinity down to 3m) all day. I merely adjusted the shutter a stop of two depending on what the clouds where doing.

It was a wonderful reminder that despite all the excitement and all the features we crave and carry on about, when it comes down to waking up a hill, less is more, and more then suitable.

The thing swang around my neck all day hitting trees, rocks, getting covered in dust, I might have been more careful with a DA* attached, the M35 gave me that freedom to just enjoy it. And the manual focus glass was just that little bit easy to focus since it was living at f8 all day. I was confident shooting my partner in front of me form the hip knowing it was going to capture the distance necessary.

Anyway I really enjoyed my walk up the hill with the faulting K5 (there are still a load of frames where the sensor seems to have been dancing around, but enough of the nice stuff to keep me happy) and the 80's M35 f2.8, and that's the point I suppose.

Yeah I gave that ago. I'm not getting an error in the system as it where. I mean, I don't think the software knows whats gong on / has no way to measure it.

It is an odd on, and in many ways I think I'd rather a "IT IS BROKEN" msg to flash once and a while so I know I'm just not going mad. But Alas.

It still might be a handy body for when I find myself in a mosh pit at a rock concert and framing isn't so critical. Ah! another post, another image is the rule! I'm now on a mission to bring everyone to NZ at least once. :P

Have an overexposed sky, Suppose you'd better visit the Kepler track and take a better photo yourself ;)
