In the way of introduction, as a new Pentax Forum user:

My first photo class was the senior year of high school in Chula Vista, south of San Diego.

From there I went on to study Journalism as at the time it was the only way to get into a darkroom.

That led to a position as a staff photographer on the San Diego newspaper. During the Viet Nam war I was a photographer onboard a destroyer tender in the Navy serving in Hawaii and California.

Working for two large metropolitan newspapers, that included both morning and evening editions with a staff of 18 photographers, gave me the opportunity as well as the obligation to learn to shoot everything from Society to professional sports and all the other newsworthy topics that fall in between. That includes everything from ballet to studio work.

Travels include Iceland and Central Europe (the Cold War was still happening), across the US and Canada.

I have now spent more of my life in Canada than in the US and wouldn't choose to live anywhere else.

Now I spend time helping and mentoring with two local photo groups and very much enjoy the company of my fellow photogs.

While I've used everything from Leica to Hasselblad and studio cameras, Pentax remains my preference and my daily shooter. Currently I'm using a K3 and do not carry or own a lot of gear. An old version of PhotoShop provides most of my digital darkroom needs as well as a free version of FastStone Image Viewer for organizational purposes. That's about it.

In my opinion, Pentax provides the easiest, most convenient menu system and body configuration for the serious photographer and the gear to match or better the competition, at a lower price. That's a professional opinion.

My view is that it's the person behind the camera that makes photos. Now I enjoy shooting panoramas (both landscape and portrait, depending on the subject). Subject matter depends on the circumstances and can be anything but there's a lot of nature and what I see as the beauty of our planet in my work.

Happy snapping, Les
