Now a recreation area, this used to be the Baldwin Hills reservoir. On December 14, 1963 the dam leaked then broke, releasing 250 million gallons of water resulting in five deaths and wiping out 277 homes.

The famous General Sherman tree. There are taller trees, and thicker trees, but this is the tallest thick tree, so by volume of wood in the trunk, it is considered the 'largest tree on earth'.

My auto auction job is closed for the month - with pay. I have extra hours at Walmart. Go figure...

For those with time on their hands...In 1968, the Science Fiction Writers of America voted "Nightfall" the best science fiction short story written prior to the 1965 establishment of the Nebula Awards - "Nightfall" is a 1941 science fiction novelette by American writer Isaac Asimov about the coming of darkness to the people of the planet Lagash, ordinarily illuminated by several suns at all times. A skeptical journalist visits a university observatory to interview a group of scientists who warn that civilization will soon end. The researchers explain that they have discovered evidence of numerous ancient civilizations, all destroyed by fire, with each collapse occurring about 2,000 years apart. Learning that the universe is far more vast—and Lagash far more insignificant—than they believed causes everyone, including the scientists, to go insane. Outside the observatory, in the direction of the city, the horizon begins glowing with the light of spreading fires as "the long night" returns to Lagash.

And The Andromeda Strain movie - a team of scientists investigate a deadly organism of extraterrestrial origin. "Most of them died instantly, but a few had time to go quietly nuts. "

Zooms are generally sharpest in the middle of their range. Not sure that relates to "distortion".

Lyon air museum at John Wayne airport was having a "tarmac day". Unfortunately, the weather was not cooperating. I brought the big lens, which I had not used in a very long time, as I planned shooting mostly in-flight shots.

This L-5 Bird Dog was one of only a few planes on the tarmac.

For No One - The Beatles

Your day breaks, your mind aches
You find that all the words of kindness linger on
When she no longer needs you
She wakes up, she makes up
She takes her time and doesn't feel she has to hurry
She no longer needs you
And in her eyes you see nothing
No sign of love behind the tears
Cried for no one
A love that should have lasted years

I'm In Love With My Car - Queen

Told my girl I'll have to forget her
Rather buy me a new carburetor
So she made tracks saying this is the end, now
Cars don't talk back they're just four wheeled friends now

When I'm holding your wheel
All I hear is your gear
When I'm cruisin' in overdrive
Don't have to listen to no run of the mill talk jive

Aqualung - Jethro Tull

Sitting on a park bench
Eying little girls with bad intent
Snot running down his nose
Greasy fingers smearing shabby clothes
Hey, Aqualung

Legs - ZZ Top

She's got legs, she knows how to use them
She never begs, she knows how to choose them
She's holdin' leg wonderin' how to feel them
Would you get behind them if you could only find them?
She's my baby, she's my baby
Yeah, it's alright

She's got hair down to her fanny
She's kinda jet set, try undo her panties
Everytime she's dancin' she knows what to do
Everybody wants to see if she can use it
She's so fine, she's all mine
Girl, you got it right

She's got legs, she knows how to use them
She never begs, she knows how to choose them
She's got a dime all of the time
Stays out at night movin' through time
Oh, I want her, said I got to have her
The girl is alright, she's alright
