Fast Standard Zoom Lenses for Pentax DSLRs

i actually bought 2. Both used. the first broke the zoom and is stuck at 16mm. Was not economical to repair, so i found another with a broken SDM. On a risk, i bought a new SDM motor and disassembled the lens and soldered in the new motor. Works perfect.

At some point i might try a repair on the first lens. The broken one in the classified is calling my name pretty hard.

I have both the tamron and the 16-50.
The tamron is smaller and lighter, but i reach for the 16-50 every single time. I love what comes out of that lens. Not sure if its the color, or the contrast, or what it is. but i definitely prefer it.

i agree, in town it's rather difficult. If i recall though, there are a couple crossings, that if you time them right, you can see the trains come up through the woods in full steam. It's really quite cool.

what do you have?

here is an 18-55WR right now on the marketplace.

except that neither on is WR, and by definition super-zoom's are going to be a compromise in quality.
personally, i would start with the 18-55WR and 55-200 or 55-300 and see what range you use most, then look for higher quality lens's in that range.

the 55-300 is generally regarded as a better lens then the 55-200, but neither is bad by any means.
Pentax's "kit" lens, the 18-55 is no slouch, other then it being a little slow.

that kit will get you 18-200(or300) and will be a good compromise between price and quality while still retaining WR throughout the entire range.

you can probably find the 18-135 used in that range also, and that is WR, and a rather highly regarded lens.

all of the above can easily be found on the marketplace or other places used. (i prefer the marketplace personally, have not had a bad experience there yet)

Pretty certain that the only WR lens's yo'll find with a pentax mount will be pentax lenses. I don't believe that any 3rd party WR lens's exist.
The cheapest you're going to be able to find will be the 18-55WR, they go up in price from there, with the 18-135 and 16-85 being the next step up, both in quality and in price.

really makes me miss my old 78 280. Converted that car from FI to SU carbs. was a ton of fun. Alas, i had to sell it when i moved from WA to NY...

still have the carb tuning spark plug, and a few crank tower shims somewhere in my toolbox(es)

One day i'll get another one.

AF sub-mirror delamination causing inconsistent focusing anyone else affected?

On my K-3ii there are some spots that almost look like water spots, although this camera has never been wet cleaned to my knowledge.
On my K-30 there is what almost looks like dust on the secondary mirror. (its not dust, its inside the silvering itself) The K-30 i know for a fact has never been wet cleaned, or really even exposed to water for that matter.

Yes and No.
M42 are lenses with a screw mount attachment. Bayonet have the 1/4 turn attachment.

All of the M42 and Some of the early K-Mount (bayonet) do not have contacts that report lens information to the camera.

This talks about the different K-Mount standards. M42 is fully manual and older then K.

I agree with Adam, try a format, sounds like there is some corruption on the card.
I can switch to review mode without any issues.

I have not seen the same behavior on mine. Although i rarely read from the FLU card.
I have my camera set to write RAW to the card in slot 1 and JPEG to the FLU in slot 2.

can you read it fine if you run a USB cable from the camera to the computer?
are you tryin to read raw or jpeg off the card?
can you see the images fine from the card on the camera?

F 80-200 fix. Is it worth it?

i think it would be worth it as parts only,
Pins, metal mount, springs, possibly aperture parts and screw drive bits.
other then that, nope.

i would show them that it's pretty much useless S is and offer 5 bucks for it.

wonder if the groove is a "manufacturing adjustment"?
Is is present in early models? or did they change the CNC code to cut out a tiny groove there after hearing of complaints.
It's definitely not unheard of for manufacturers to make slight adjustments like this without saying anything.
