First blue bird I spotted from my perch beside the maple tree and I nailed the focus just as he looked over his shoulder.

Saturday, March 14, was our last public opening with an event we call Tea with Seagrove Potters. The two ladies decided it was safe enough to sit and sip some Barry's Tea for a while. My wife baked tea brack, fig bread and apple tart. She sliced and wrapped it individually this time. Great turnout, great sales. Lots of hand washing.... The next day, everything started shutting down around us.

Delayed, noisy wake up

UPDATE:
After a month, I've experienced this delay in both waking up and turning on. But I only experience it very seldom. I'm wondering if it's an extended session of dust removal, like every 100th time, the dust removal function does an extended session of several seconds. I'm not worrying about it, anyways. It doesn't happen often.

The only thing I can think of is to try this: In Live Mode, press the Info button at back of camera twice. You'll see three options to choose. Set it to "Standard Information Display."

This pot caught my eye. Located in my darkened workshop with bright outdoor light streaming in behind it, I was quite pleased with the results in spite of an ISO setting of 10,000. I think I'd like to reproduce the look with my lighting setup indoors.

Thanks Kerrydown. This is the only hotel that has these foot-soaking bowls. Here's a photo of one in a room we talked them into letting me take when I delivered some in 2012.

Every few years, I get a re-order for these foot-soaking bowls for a boutique hotel on 5th avenue in NYC, the Andaz. This year, it was 100, so I've been busy. They take up a lot of my workspace. After a week's work, I saw an opportunity for some self promotion on social media so I took some photos with the self timer. Would this be considered a selfie or not?

Upper left is a finished piece, glazed black. Left and right are groupings of two pieces that will be joined, then sliced with a wire at an angle and cleaned up to look like the ones behind me. On the top shelf behind me are some mugs that will fit in the kiln around the bowls during firing.

The snow melted today and I got a quick couple of shots of this colorful bird as it popped out of the shadows of a maple tree, with its red blooms.

The mottled clouds behind this oak created an interesting effect, I thought. The first photo is unedited. The second, I lightened the shadows and darkened the highlights. I think the unedited is more dramatic. There's really not enough detail in the shadow to make it worth lightening up.

Delayed, noisy wake up

This is my experience, too. On occasion, my KP wakes up from "Power save" with a long noisy delay or "buzzy rattle," several seconds - long enough to lose the opportunity to photograph a quickly moving subject like a bird jumping from limb to limb. The length of the delay varies, when it does happen. Sometimes it's short, sometimes, long. This is nothing like the little "zzzt" which occurs on startup.

I wonder if your "intermittent buzzie rattle" is the same as my noisey delay. My noise might happen on startup sometimes, I'm not sure. I'm still waiting to hear it again.

I bought my KP in October 2019, so I still have time to study this behavior before warranty runs out. Since I posted one day ago, the camera has not behaved as I've described. It's awakened quickly and pretty quietly. I appreciate you studying your camera's behavior. If it continues to misbehave, maybe I should call someone at Pentax or Precision Camera and discuss it.

I will try this, thanks. But first I need to pay more attention to the noisy delay. I was hoping to hear from someone who has experienced this. Maybe I should have posted on the general DSLR page rather than the specific KP page.

So, I've got two functions that could be looked into once I pay some more attention to the noisy delay. It's not something that happens all the time.

Thanks for responding. Most of the time, there's just a tiny little sound for a fraction of a second and the camera turns back on, but sometimes it makes a more noisy sound for a second or two, and every once in a while the noisy delay will last several seconds. I'm trying to make it happen right now, and I can't seem to make it happen. I've just mostly ignored it, and I'm thinking of extending my auto power off to 10 minutes, which may take care of it.

Does anyone else experience this:
My KP powers off (sleeps) automatically after 1 minute. Sometimes, when I press the shutter halfway to wake it up, it will make a noise for a second or several seconds before waking up. The noise is something like my laptop does when it's struggling with a heavy task - crunching sort of sound. I think it does it only after a lengthy sleep, like a few minutes or more.

Is this is a common occurrence with other KP users, this noise and delay in waking up? I never had this experience with my K5lls.

Thanks, Michael
