A woodpecker finishing off the elderberries. This is a ridiculous iso 40000. Cropped slightly and the background blurred and darkened.

Sigma 500 f4.5. I have the 150-450 but a bit longer and bigger aperture is nice in this situation. Yes, it is a dipper.

The K1 mark II doesn't slow down in continuous autofocus in either mode.

The back doesn't look finished to me. Why is it inset with a shoulder on three sides? The corner in question isn't finished. So it is a prototype.

I don't know what the end result will look like, but there are lots of people, enough to listen to, that would pass on this model if it didn't have an articulating screen. I suspect that is the type of information that Ricoh is looking for.

At best the screen looks unfinished. Looking at all the photos the amount it is set into the back varies across all four sides. It looks unfinished in a way that the rest of the body doesn't. I don't know what that means.

It looks like there is a GPS built in, the markings and the small indicator light on the right side of the prism housing look like the k1.

Kokanee spawn on the Lardeau river. Last year this location had only a handful of fish, but this year the numbers are much better. And an eagle looking for a meal.

The hardware may be close to being done, but the software likely isn't. So the modes and how they are operated is still in flux.

As is, it looks like you select one of the three modes; live view, viewfinder and movie. The S.fn or select function button you press to scroll through a list, and use the third dial to toggle or set values. The large top screen is capable of showing enough information to do this. Or scroll with the third dial through the configuration options, hit select function, then dial to change value, select function to save setting.

Another possiblility is the S.Fn button toggles some function; two AF point selections, single multiple shots, whatever. The positioning of the button making it useful when you have your eye to the viewfinder would indicate some on the fly configuration purpose. I would really like to be able to quickly toggle between spot and center weighted metering.

I would like three sets of user modes or the ability to go to movie mode or live view in a user mode. I have an electronic shutter mode, which only works in live view so to select that mode requires two actions. But if I have 5 user modes for live view, 5 for viewfinder and 5 for movie, that would be cool.

Lots of possibilities and all in software. The final print on the buttons waits for the software to be done.

The photo shows a recess where the screen is. It has a relief on three sides, none on the bottom. That looks to me like a spot for some kind of articulating screen.

I suspect that Ricoh is putting this out there for feedback. Few complaints so far except for the screen, which probably gives them the information they need.

The K1 high iso performance makes the need for big aperture long lenses less important.

The photo of the prototype shows a deep recess where the back screen is set. I would suspect that it isn't finished.

The mic headphone door is beside the hdmi usb door. Nice.

What has ricoh learned from this announcement? Af, deep buffer and an articulated back screen are yes/no propositions. IQ is assumed to be good. Movie is getting to be a yes/no proposition.

I think that ricoh is trying to figure out what product to make.

I'm very happy with my K1ii. If i could get equivalent iso performance, have a quick shooting rate with a decent buffer, something like the k3 or a bit better without the slowdown in afc mode, an articulated back screen, a usable stabilized movie mode with pdaf and live viewfinder, i would buy.

More than what i have in other words.

Is this describing what the accelerator unit does?

From what I can understand. Electronic chips are manufactured by a photo chemical process that etches the semiconductor. Large sensors are manufactured by multiple exposures to cover the area of the silicon. The slight differences in the process across the regions create different exposure characteristics. The regions are divided horizontally and vertically. The patent describes a process where the sensor is exposed and the different regions (which are known from the manufacturing process) provide the characteristics of the region, which is then stored, and the correction is applied later when the sensor is used in a camera.

So large sensors don't have consistent light gathering and noise characteristics across the sensor array. No surprise. During the manufacturing process these differences can be detected, and the differences saved so a correction can be applied later.

In practice this would make large sensor cameras less expensive. Silicon is cheap but large sensor manufacturing generates lots of rejects. A sensor with consistent characteristics across the array would be rare and expensive. Less consistent ones can be corrected.

They work. I have had one for a while and it is reliable. I don't like ball heads so it suits in a box most of the time, but nothing wrong with it. The model i got had a weird plate and clamp. I changed it to an arca swiss type.
