Pentax LX Mirror/Shutter Stuck at 1/60 and 1/30

This is quite similar to the erratic behavior my early model exhibits. I've learned to live with mine but have made it happen with far less frequency. CLA and two (very long) trips to Eric H over the course of two years did not resolve it.
Question: when this happens does the meter read a value that seems correct and is it steady, e.g. does it behave how you'd expect... or does it jump about when you move to those shutter speeds?
If so, does it moving (or even touching/applying pressure to the exposure-comp wheel or shutter wheel make the meter LEDs change in any drastic way? (Just trying to ascertain if your issue is in any way similar to mine).

Is it title wordplay?
The ES has aperture-priority shooting if that's what you mean by "matic"...

But they're all Spot-"matic", except for the Cosina, by name/heritage. ;-)
So I suppose we were looking for the maticmatic.

:) Me too. Certainly not a regular. I still remember their bizarre sliding doors with the "smoking bar".
Last time I was in was early 2006 - I met up with two friends and my then girlfriend for a 5:30am double-date before the workday on Valentine's.
They made us heart-sharped pancakes. :D (Which has nothing to do with the building but is a funny memory.)

This last shot is one of a number that were lost to a HDD failure. Always wanted this one back, but all I have is a Picasa web-upload version, compressed for 2010 era upload/download speeds. Ah well.

Kinda a classic (now) architecture. I like it when they're repurposed like that into other businesses.
There was a cool old Googie style Denny's in Ballard (in Seattle) where I lived for years. It got tore down but was a huge to-do. Half the neighborhood fought it for a couple years.
Definitely was a cool old building. (photo below from Phil H. Webber/Seattle PI and Times, 1984)

Yup. It's a light leak on that camera, my main T4, that I've been trying to track down since that roll. It's shows up on many of that roll's frames.
It's only ever done it on one or two frames since that particular roll, but much less pronounced. The light seals were newly done at the time so I suspected them, but it's from the lower front judging from the leak color (always white) so I think it may be from the front bottom cap... but hard to say.
It only showed up on that roll when shot in very, very bright overhead sun. Dunno.

(You can see it on the first photo back in post #24430 as well, but not in the second. Same roll. About 30 minutes earlier in the day. :) )

What Lens Do You Use the Most?

According Lightroom, by the numbers... it's "Unknown Lens".
Which makes sense because I'm awful at EXIF tagging scanned shots sometimes, particularly if I don't do any editing of the scans.

But KNOWN by the numbers it's the DA*300/4 ... though that isn't really accurate either because it includes chimps and rapid-fires for birding, dozens upon dozens of shots I've not culled and binned.

The real answer is FA 31/1.8 Limited .... with the Hexanon 38/1.8 on my C35FD beginning to catch up in recent years. That sounds about right.

My old-New MZ-S After Returning From Repair

Exactly that. In this specific case, from everything I've been able to gather, that thumb-rule is derived specifically from the MZ-60 which was released earlier that year. The sticking point for me is that the change in name badging on those cameras allegedly occurred in 2002, the second year of MZ-S production. But the MZ-S was produced until 2006 so one would think that the vast majority of cameras in the wild should be badged "PENTAX Corporation", however the opposite is true; those with the Asahi badging are much more common, and the Pentax Corp versions seem to be quite rare in comparison. So one would think there'd be many many more failures reported. There aren't.

But yeah - I agree with you to simply not worry on it as a large issue, at least nowhere in the vicinity of the very warranted worry over the likes of MZ-5n or MZ-7 etc.
If mine ever fails, I'll rip it open and see but until then I'll carry on using.

My old-New MZ-S After Returning From Repair

That's kinda why I brought it up again... These posts scare people away. Frankly I've heard of just as many Z1p/PZ-1p with mirror issues (very few but about the same number) and these days, for a good working copy (non "parts-only") they seem to be around same asking price as the MZ-S. The regular Z1 is slightly less expensive, but not by much now.

I think reality is that the Zs are older, but all of these, Z1 and MZ cameras alike, even those with replacement motors & brass gears still have a host of other plastic parts within the gear train, drive belts that can wear, seals etc. Point being.. there's reason to be scared of any of them but I don't think the MZ-S deserves any additional fear. :D

Great write-up on it. (I admit I fell asleep last night before I got back to it. :D ) I remember many of those images. The old Civic in particular. <3

It is a great looking little thing, the PROD-20s that is (the Civic too though). There are just some weird cameras that call out to each of us for shooting... You described a lot of what I love about my two little Franka folders, Rollfix II and Solida III ... both with triplets that are oozing with optical inferiority, yet they're just nice to shoot with and the images I've coaxed from them have always made me very pleased. :)

I think those kinds of cameras are some my favorites. The little average weirdos.

More MZ-S ruminating brought me back to this combo. I need to give it some shooting laps; been too long. (Though I did hand this combo off to my sister-in-law to use at my wedding in late 2020.)
