Updated Roadmap: New 100mm Macro Coming

I'd certainly want an improved AF system in a new macro - I don't know if it's in the system or just because the lenses are older, but the screw-drive lenses I've had are much more prone to rack all the way out and back hunting for focus - and focus accuracy is especially critical with macro, so the lenses ideally need a long focus throw, which means a lot more motor activity. I would expect them to have 'leaked' if if there was a new drive though (admittedly i haven't been keeping up with this, however :D)

I used a lab, I didn't do it myself , but I got wonderful exhibition prints from 6x7 Velvia (50) transparencies - the ones from the early 90s look as good as new - I really love the Cibachrome look.

Most of the tech from the K-3iii is transferable - and the K-1iii needs (in terms of marketing, not necessarily performance) to be a major upgrade, just like the K-3iii. I think they do have a genuine dilemma - if they are going to double down on DSLRs then their best best is having a K-3iii style prism - but it took them a long time getting the smaller version right, and the cost implications of a FF version might be unpalatable unless the camera is so good in every other way that people are prepared to swallow it. Pentax have always like to pull rabbits out od hats and introduce something new and different - I don't know if the new naming system implies a more gradualist approach. Time will tell - but barring a major windfall, I'll stick with my K-1 for a few years yet.

Not really a serious point, but I can't help noticing that the most weather resistant lens only gets Spring and Summer usage for KATEN...

I probably posted this at the time, but it popped up on the BBC Springwatch programme last night (via the eponymous Flickr group). Fortunately they ask permission, so I was alerted to ii :) (though I do often watch, as it happens). Male sparrowhawk.

I think that the time that ILCs were mainstream - mostly late SLRs - was a historical blip - serious photographers who like to be in total control have always actually been a tiny minority. We'll probably have to put up with even higher prices and investment going elsewhere once MILCs hit the diminishing return on onvestment barrier (if they haven't already, but as long as peoplecan see a difference (ie you're good enough to be better than the automation) or you just enjoy the process of making images that you can truly say 'I did that' about there will still be a niche left for M.

I've always thought it would be nice to have sort of built in neutral dansity filters, achieved by changing the sensor's sensitivity locally, so you could pull down an ND grad over the sky on your touch screen or place an ND spot over the sun or other highlights out of the sensor's normal range at the set ISO. Probably fantasyland, but the thread invites it. :)

I had an external hard drive fail on me once taking thousands of images with it - I'd bought it to back up my desktop files but as the desktop dot older and fuller and slower I stopped saving them there and deleted what I had. You don't need to be an IT genius to be an idiot! :( :D

It's the family pics that hurt more than the 'great shots' :( :(

I don't have either now, but I owned both back in the 90s. I definitely found the Z-1 to be an upgrade in every way. I don't think that the winder is so much quieter as faster, so higher pitched and over sooner! The only downside with the Z-1 compared to the SFXn (for me) was I found the body if anything too small - the old left-over finger problem

Not a perfect LR stitch - there are a couple of very small steps on the horizon - and I don't usually use such a wide angle for panos, but it was a very wide view (this is 10x portrait shots) K-1 + 24-70 @24
