Quote: On the negative side, despite the return of 11-point autofocus as used on the K200D and previous models, there’s still no display of the focusing points in the viewfinder. So in multi-zone, it’s impossible to know what’s being focused on, and – as with the K-m – we advise you to use the center AF point only. This makes me laugh. Impossible? Note to the reviewer, that little window looking thing on the back of the K-X is called a viewfinder. When you look though it, you will see what is in focus. And another thing because the indicator can actually be wrong, I trust my eye more than a stupid little dot or a beep.
What on earth did photographers do before the invention of the red dot?

Besides being photography week on Ovation, they just started a Genius of Photography marathon.
Great 6 part BBC documentary.

I really wish Pentax would make these color choices available outside of Japan.

I dropped by Fry's at lunch and played with the K-X. Mainly to test the AF.
I found that it is much quicker to focus (in select focus point mode) than my K10, didn't go into a hunting cycle once. I also thought the VF was nice and bright. The shutter was louder than I had expected. Menus were decent. Can't comment on IQ.
One observation. Focusing in LV mode has insanely slow. Not that I would ever use it but I would imagine P&Sers stepping up would, and be very disappointed.
Anyone else notice this?

I ended up using some chrome spray paint. Also used it to spray the backside of the bowl, followed by a couple coats of flat black to stop the light coming through the plastic.
I'm digging the dish. :) |

Thanks Peter, yeah after testing I realized the plastic bowl was just too translucent. I am also going to paint the plastic behind the mirror, hopefully to achieve catch lights that have a more pronounced or larger dark center.

Great project. Thanks for the ideas.
I used a $2 plastic bowl, a old DVD case, a $2 mirror and a $1 can of high gloss white spray paint.
I cut a hole in the bottom of the bowl big enough to fit the dvd case. I used the bottom piece I cut out to super glue to the top of the dvd case. Attached the mirror to that. Cut a hole in the base of the dvd case to insert my AF360fgz. Then I painted everything white.
Assembled dvd case.
Back of the bowl with the dvd case inserted

Example
Took no time to make and I only spent $5.
Never used a dish before, how did I do?

If you know the secret to producing premium lenses for a 1/3 the price, start making them. Bet you'll be rich in no time.
Who wouldn't buy sub $300 31mm or 77mm LTDs? Or maybe get all DA* lenses in a package for sub $2000?
I'll take one of each.

Really like the second one. Love the overall balance and the highlights on the grass in the foreground. Well done.

I was under the impression Pentax meant Pentaprism/Contax mount(M42), M42 developed by Ziess in 1938 and first used on the Zeiss Contax S camera.
The Zeiss east German name was Pentacon.

I use one for portraits with an external flash unit. Kids don't seat still long.
Also I use incident metering for subjects that are very dark/black or very light/white.
