Cameron might be a twin, he’s spoken my thoughts perfectly.
I will add gimp, raw therepee and numerous others I’ve tried. And didn’t care for
PS does have a few more things 5.5that Affinity doesn’t ….. most are newer since my CS5.5 days. I also added NIKs for monochrome conversions. All I need to spend and use. Great software

Logical thought, a typewriter erasure pencil works great for cleaning. Start by cleaning the batteries first
(Good luck finding one nowadays)

A lens error will occur if the focus mechanism or the lens mechanism is jammed. Either way it’s a new subassembly.
Now the quote is ridiculous, but I’m wondering if Covid parts chain is the culprit. But not sending back parts is awful service

I for one would love to hear an answer.
To repair a camera is a real lost passion, not many went into it years ago, even fewer now. Many of my peers were educated by Uncle Sugar, But that was Nikon F, Speed Graphics, and some M Leicas. The Navy had an incredible optical shop for periscopes, binoculars, and lenses.
So my answer is on this one over $800.00 .

Excellent history lesson, and a neat camera. 828 was unique as was Bakelite!
Now you need to up the game with another Bakelite wonder, the venerable brick, Argus C3!
Lots of fun and history also!

All the manufacturers HAD regional service centers, Honeywell/Pentax was in Englewood (Denver) CO Nikon(EPOI), Minolta, Yashica, all had coastal branches. Camera stores sold equipment. Today we don’t have any of those , But we do have huge mail order shops, and zero support. Precision is a independent shop still around in today’s market, choked off supply chains, small inventory of replacement parts, what has occurred is our fault, as we are cheap.
I chuckled when I saw the claim that Precision wants to sell product. As far as going bankrupt, I’m amazed they still want to do service. But let’s bash them!!

So it’s precisions fault you dropped your camera? Seriously??
So few brain cells used when wanting computer s fixed . My advice is go to school, learn optics, electronics, and computer technology, then you can fix it cheaper?

If you really want some Fun find an original pony camera. It was a 828 film, and was the first of the series, first camera I reassembled and functioned. And retensioning the mainspring is always there. Fun camera , looks great. If I remember the r/w shaft is soft, and can gall easily. I polished with a wire bristle and rubbed with dry Molly

Stacking is done in post processing.
Shooting is merely a number of identical shots, each focusing on a different plane. Camera locked on tripod. I use Affinity Photo, then it’s pick and stack

Check your pure shutter speed, that is adjustable by retensioning the main spring. The other speeds can be adjusted by swaging or filing you speed control ring.
Remember that all speeds do have tolerances between 20 - 30%

If it’s had a bump, the mirror latch lever can unlatch. Same thought as above post, K1000 manual helps.
Usually you can retension the mirror charge lever without disassembly

Guilty.
No argument from me, ever since switching to serious monitor viewing from casual looking.
Monitor calibration is a subject that intersects here?
I tend to oversharpen due to staring at a part, on too small of a screen, and then like what happened.

As a bench tech, you wouldn’t believe the number of broken body castings I’ve seen by over tightening tripod screws. I’ve always had a rubber pad between them and always feel good about the stability. A locator pin would work well, but good luck having everyone adhere to a standard.
