I would say about the same price as fuji 16-55 and Sony 16-55 which are both modern excellent quality lenses. In euros 1150 while the 11-18 is priced 1400. Or it can cost less, as DFA16-35 is more expensive than 11-18, we can expect that 16-50 to be less expensive than DFA24-70. I only hope that it is top quality and it is released in 2021...

I can understand that the camera will be thinner and the screen a little bigger without a tiltable LCD but in many shooting situations, it is just impossible to look into the viewfinder or look at a fixed LCD... Last week I had to compose in the blind because my K-3II was just above the water, a tilt screen would have been very welcome.

The article seems to say that they focus on the viewfinder, but I hope they do not forgot to improve liveview. I am expecting a brand new liveview, that works like EVF camera, with fast AF, eye and animal eye tracking, and most of all wysiwyg... Last point is my biggest complaint with my K-3II, you can compose with liveview but it do not reflect the final picture exposition. What the point of having an histogram if you can't trust it because it is different in the picture taken? This is this kind of improvements I expect, not a body few millimeters thinner...

And I really hope that they didn't dropped the GPS to have their viewfinder 10% bigger...

Because I already have the K-3II, the KP is lower end.

Sure, like the K-3 improved in every aspect in regards to K-5, but K-3 was not a $2000 camera.

What I mean is that each new generation, coverage and magnification has improved, and so the the viewfinder has always been better in each new flagship : K-3 > K-5 > K20D etc... but again the price has never be $2000.

IQ has always improved in each new gen camera without requiring a $2000 pricetag. Just remember how the entry level K-x had a better IQ that previous flagship. It was because of new Sony sensor.

Flagship mean nothing regarding to pricing: K5 was a flagship too, as well as K10D... it just mean that it is the most advanced model in the serie. It can't be priced like the k-1, lack of K-1 tilt screen already mean that K-3III is not intended to be as impressive as K-1. That was THE feature I most expected for K-3II successor. The more they release information, the more I think it will just be an up to date K-3II with not killing new features. Prism? Every new model have a new prism, this is just the first time they talk about it because they haven't much image quality improvement to talk about... We will know soon. Personnally I just hope it still have a GPS or I am not sure I'll buy it.

Are you sure of that price? I purchased k5 just a few months after release (just after the sensor dust problems were fixed) and I paid around 1500 but with 18-135mm.

I didn't had any regret when I switched from sigma 10-20 to 12-24. Color and resolution improved on my K-5. On K-3 now I am happy with 11-18, another jump of performance even if 18-24 range is missing something...

Look like I will have to wait for real K-3III or KPII if the price is much more than K-3II... it's like bringing a D500 for double pricing as the upgrade of D7000 instead of D7200... Not the same budget, not the same users, not a upgrade for me...And will they ask still $1000 more fore the sequel of KNew?

Pentax K-3 II successor on September 2020

As far as I remember, I didn't read anywhere that Knew will be totally new tech. In my opinion, it will be as new as k3 was in regard to k5. New sensor (26mp?), more af points (51 may be?), new USB, wifi, GPS (I hope), bigger viewfinder. As a hint, the body is the same size than the k3 while the D500 is a lot bigger than D7500. And In my opinion, if Pentax would like to release the most advanced APS-C with no compromise, it would have a flip screen. We will know in a few months...

Noise reduction - different camera body or better software?

Have you tried Topaz Denoise AI? DXO Prime images has lot of artifacts in my opinion. Denoise AI produce noisefree, more natural and sharper images that every other piece of software I tried. Bonus: it even improve images taken at 100 iso! I am not afraid of noise anymore with my K-3II :)

I don't agree, almost every single component of the K-5 has been improved in the K-3, and that's not tiny improvements (even more in K-3II: GPS!! + sensor shift resolution).

16 to 24 Mpxls
11 to 27 AF points
-3 AF sensibility
More FPS,
60 FPS video
No AA filter
Larger LCD screen
77 to 86000 points metering sensor
Faster processor
Dual card slot
USB-3
100000 to 200000 shutter actuations

We are 7 years after the original K-3, this is the largest gap between two models ever. I am sure Pentax could improve many many things to make K-3 and K-3II users happy without necessarely doubling the price of the K-3II. They are generally asking $100 more than previous generation.

What about the promise of Ricoh to release the successor of K-3II? In the first place people were waiting for the K-3III. A $2000 is definitely not the successor of the K-3II (release for $1100) as well as a $3500 is not the successor of K-1II. K-3II users are already not interested by KP as it was lower end as their K-3II. I am ok if Ricoh release new higher end models, but priority is K-3II successor targeting people that purchase in the K-7,K-5,K-3 price range and it's not $2000. Most pentaxian ready to buy for more than $1300-1400 already purchased K-1. For me $1500 IS the absolute maximum and it will require more than a joystick and a bigger OVF. I remember the enormous gap between k5 and K3 and the price was similar...

$1500 is way to expensive! K-3ii successor mean same price range as k-3ii. I don't remember the price of the k3-ii when it hits the market but I purchased mine new for 800 1 year after the release. Above 1300 it is not a k-3 successor but a new product above k-3 that target richer people, and k-3 buyers will be disappointed and will still wait the K-3ii successor.

It don't have to be that expensive...

If Sigma can make a 120-300mm f2.8 for $3k, why a 300mm f2.8 prime would necessarily cost more that a zoom? Aren't they easier to make?

I don't need the absolutly best image quality, but I definitly want more speed or range than my 300mm f/4. 300mm f4 cost about 1k and its IQ is good enougth for me, but I would be ready to go until 3k for a 300 f2.8 or even 4k for a 500 f5.6 sush as the Nikon one. There is also the option to make a long lens APS-C only, to reduce cost and weight.

The 300/4 is just a little longer than 60-250/4 and about the same price, even cheaper. Can't understand the such large price difference between 150-450/5.6 and 560/5.6. Why a 500/5.6 prime for less than $2500 is not in any maker lineup? Even if not optically perfect, just a little better than 150-450.

A bit disappointed by the flagship presentation...
The grip, I don't care
The slightly design change, I don't care
The slightly viewfinder magnifycation, I don't care...
The joystick, I don't care...

I expected more useful information...

but hopefully the new 16-50 really look like a new product! :)

Totally agree for f/4 vs f/2.8 for price, size and weight reason. Personally, I also don't understand why they put rounded aperture blade on a landscape lens... My question was just what is the point of wishing a lens were constant f/4 when it is f/2.8-4 lens.

Just for my information, why many people prefer a constant f/4 instead of f/2.8-4, I never understood?
