Too bad it was so hazy. The image isn't very sharp. Shutter speed was getting pretty slow. I certainly need more practice with this lens.

LOL.

Notice how the face/helmets seem to be rotated looking at the camera.

Trying one of my last few rolls of RPX 100 with D-23. This film has a base + fog density of 0.30. That's a lot compared to RPX 25 which measured 0.05 on my last post. This is about the fastest sports action I can capture with this camera.

What do you think is the future of Slide film?

Well, that's not much of a choice. Provia has the Fuji cool tone colors and Velvia has more the super saturated fantasy colors. And I think sheet film is the canary in the mine because slide film is best viewed as a first generation image as apposed to a 3rd or 2nd generation hanging on the wall. And 4x5 and 8x10 is something you can easily see on a light table.

EDIT Ideally, I'd like choices like in the negative film too. Some cool-tone and earth-tone colors as shown here.

Development times are really close if not the same as D-76 at equivalent temperature and dilution. You can purchase Sodium Sulfite and Metol at the formulary and other places (eg freestylephoto.biz)

To mix 1000ml working solution you would heat 500ml of water ( I use distilled) up to about 120F/50C, dissolve the Metol first and then the Sodium Sulfite. Then add near ice cube cold water to bring the temperture down to 70F/21C. I even freeze some distilled ice cubes and put one in first, let it melt and then add the remaining cold water. You may need to invest into an accurate weighing scale good to at least 0.1 gram of mass. Use the 1:1 dilution immediately after mixing.

Code:

                        1000ML D-23 Mixing Ratio

INGREDIENT FULL STRENGTH 1:1 DILUTION

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Metol 7.5g 3.75g

Sodium Sulfite 100g 50g

I'd be interested in seeing what your idea of "superb" is for that much of a push.

Some other long shelf life, one-shot developers include: HC 110 (can be used one-shot), D-23 and PMK Pyro. D-23 you mix yourself. It is only two chemicals. It's easier than mixing the DIY coffee developers.

Really? For sheet film I'm only finding Fuji Provia 100F and Velvia 100/50.

Yeah, the out of gamut highlights and shadows gives it a look and feel of over-pushed small format film except with no grain.

I like the "evidence" factor. I'd guess the wine is what she consumed and the Jack Daniel is what he had. We can see who drinks more.

Yeah, I want to try more. This developer seems to separate the toe end of the film more than Rodinal.

Development time testing RPX 25 in D-23. I take a picture of a gray card metered to place it 3 stops above the middle gray exposure (Zone VIII) and develop it with some other sheets to simulate a full load for the developer and look for a target density of 1.25. The density of the test picture came out to 1.32. So reducing my development time around 10% should get me there by the next attempt I suspect.

A while back I heard a news report demonstrating how effective it was to come up with a name and address of the person behind this so-called anonymized number.

Okay. More proof of my Earth's diameter is increasing theory. We always have to dig to find things in the past or look under water to find ancient civilizations. :o

Let's say you're a government that has a constitution granting freedom and lots of privacy protection for its citizens. And monitoring, collecting and storing data about these citizens such as what they say, who they talk to, etc and mapping it all out would mean violating some of those granted rights even if it was for the "greater good".

What better way to avoid a fight with the very people who put food on the public servant's table and clothes on the back of their children by getting a private company to do that for you and it only takes some rubber-stamped paperwork to gain access to it. Do you think they'll give that up or just put on a dog and pony show for people to see as if they actually cared about citizen privacy.

What is 'correct' exposure ?

I still use a one degree spot meter. The old days are not over. What was that old saying that 98% of the people never did shooting film. That's right, expose for the shadows and develop for the highlights. What does that mean? Well, it's mostly done with BW film and more common using medium and large format film. You place the low values in the scene with your exposure using the one-degree and the developing time places the highlights. You can compress or expand the highlights that way for high and low contrast scenes.

Congrats! Those are some nice night scenes

There are some out of gamut highlights and blacks in that first one but of course it's nighttime. I most often will favor exposure for either the highlights or shadows in situations like that so I only have one end out of recordable range of the film instead of having both.

Another interesting thing. If you use a no script plugin on your browser, life can be inconvenient on the internet. But you can painstakingly allow specific scripts on sites to the point of functionality and save that. You can see a list of all the scripts a website wants to run on your browser. What is interesting is Google, Facebook, Twitter and other social media all want to run scripts on your HTTP client when you visit almost any website it seems.

EDIT: Example, visiting pentaxforums.com the following scripts want to be executed:
  • adservice.googl.com/adsid/integrator.js

  • pagead2.googlesyndication.com/paged/js/adsbygoogle.js

  • pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/r20191001/r20190131/show_ads_impl.js

  • s.skimresources.com/js/3671X619907.skimlinks.js

  • s7.addthis.com/js/300/addthis_widget.js

  • ssl.google-analytics.com/ga.js

  • tcr.tynt.com/ti.js

  • googletagservices.com/activeview/js/current/osd.js

  • Several penatxforums.com scripts

  • z-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/one.js

  • statcounter.com/counter/counter_xhtml.js

It's nice to see Adam hasn't sold out to the social media websites scripts.

Iso .. how high is too high for you?

When 50% of your picture has R=G=B = 0 ( or nearly so), I'd say the high ISO has decreased the dynamic range too much. But everybody has different acceptance levels.

Another shot of the 1957 Ford Fairlane. The other picture was from the street. The owner came out, we talked and I was able to get a closer shot.

The 6x7 format 150mm equivalent focal length would also be a 225mm on an APSC camera (1.5 x 150) as compared to FF; hence, the saying focal length is focal length. In other words, if you mount a 150mm K-mount film lens on your APSC camera you will see the same field of view as a 6x7 150mm lens. However, the image circle is much larger on the 6x7 lens than the K-mount lens.

Is it the digital reproduction or does the print also have the blown highlights and no exposure blacks?
