I think this might be the right thread for this photo. Didn't initially indend to make it so dark, exposure comp was 4x (+2 stops) but it wasn't enough.(delta 100, super program)

Added another photo of the FA 50 to show the glass better, it's the last one. Most of the visible dust is from a lens pen, it's rather clean on the inside.

AFA Focus Mode! What is it? And do I need it? Explain?

My guess (sort of remember reading it somewhere) is that it first tries af-s and if that fails for some time, it switches to af-c. In my experience the time it takes to switch is much longer than I'd need, I never use af-a either.

Beyond "Tack Sharp"!

The first thing that stands out to me is how flat lighting is in the picture that was the starting point of this thread (the flower). I'm sure it is entirely deliberate, and in a way it works together with all that fine detail.. "45.7 Mpx, which don’t seem like much" is a surprising statement, isn't that one of the highest resolution 35mm sensors?

The main lesson for me is that I could pay more attention to sharpening after downsizing. I never do it because I only downsize drastically to share on the web, and that's a lossy process in itself. I tried it just now on some picture of a flower that I have taken with the wr 100mm macro, f11,iso 100, and yes the final result looks better if I sharpen again after downsizing.

Contest The Manual Focus Challenge!

I've been shooting more with manual focus than with af recently because I'm using film cameras more and more (super program, but even the ones with just one central point dont really work better than mf for me).

But I'm posting one of the most challenging situations I was in. At the time my longest lens was the m 200/4. This is from Shakespeare in the park, shot at f4 on digital apsc with the standard focusing screen. It's not cropped much and there was of course enough stage movement to make it challenging.

How do you select photos?

As a general rule, when it comes to selecting from my own pictures, I've noticed that I tend to select differently from what other choose. I never enter serious competitions, I'm mostly talking about choosing which photos to print, or to post in various weekly or thematic threads here on pf, or elsewhere online.

My selection/editing process is to either:
- get excited about a recent photo. this is somewhat balanced with film because I'm more detached from the moment of capture, the excitement is just seeing them developed and scanned;
- have one in mind from a while ago, something that I remember distinctly. these are usually the ones only I like;
- go through my gallery and try to narrow down my selection with successively smaller pools, but this relies on having a cleanly tagged library which sometimes isn't the case.

I'm wondering how others select photos, what is your method?

How has printing affected your photography (if it has)?

Back in highschool, at the dawn of the digital era, I used to print a lot more often than I do now. Then and now, when I print it makes me more aware, and it's motivation to learn more. This is because I look more often at individual prints than at digital images. With digital, it's always a deliberate act to pull them up on a screen, they're not just around on a wall or something.

If you shot raw, you can batch process the raw files in camera, no computer needed. This will match the bright profile you want. You don't need the computer, you start this from the playback menu and you have options for jpeg profiles and all the other usually settings.

I also like my a 28mm/f2.8, although it's beat up and wobbly ( I got it with a camera I was mainly interested in). I usually set it to f8 and I like what I get with it.
