DXO Labs into receivership?

Not surprising given they shut down their online store a few months ago and now redirect you to their partners for fulfillment. As for their forum, it is clear nobody from the company actively manages it. I love my DxO One. I love DxO PhotoLab software. I hope they can get it together.

upon your review I also picked up one of these via Amazon (next day shipping for free). I can attest to everything stated in the review: this is a high-quality item. As a side note I own more than 6 table top tripods including: several versions (and clones) of the classic Leica Tabletop, GorillaPod, PlatyPod, UltraPod, Novoflex BasicBall, and both the big and small ProMaster Clamper. Seriously, I'm liking this Moman the best.

Tony Northrup: Is Nikon FAILING?!

agree 100% -- Nikon (and Pentax too) need to transition to become software+hardware companies. This is a huge struggle for them. The only company in this regard who is "almost there" is Sony. The key is 3rd party apps (a la the iPhone). And that requires a robust set of developer APIs. IMHO, any camera manufacturer who doesn't excel at software won't be around in 5 years.

Pentax vs Other Camera SYSTEMS - Observations and a comparison by a working semi-pro

Well the prices are high for new Pentax lenses because of little competition and small market.
And the prices for rare Pentaxx lenses are high, well because.
OTOH, Nikon (and others) with its huge market is in trouble.
So which would you rather have to deal with (given the prices are effectively similar?)

Refurbed D500 for $1600US these days (very tempting actually).
Going to be tough for Pentax to launch something similar at a higher price point than that.

Is Lightroom + DXO Optics Pro Worth It?

Long time DxO user here. Current version is v11. v9 is fairly long-in-the-tooth at this point. The ideal use of DxO Optics Pro is when you happen to own a lens+body combination that they support. If so, then it really is the best RAW converter. However, if you only have a supported body but not a supported lens, then while it is still a great RAW converter, some of its unique benefits go away vis a vis other RAW converter competition. If you are wondering what camera+lenses are supported look here first: Supported cameras | DxO.com

FWIW, I've stopped using Photoshop after 25+ years and now only use Affinity Photo as my post-processing tool. I still pre-process all images in DxO first.

No doubt you can use a smaller diopter than the lens filter size. I used to use a Canon 500 58mm on a 72mm Nikon 180mm f.2.8 with great results. Here is another way I use the Marumi:

I have two Marumi DHG Achromat close up filters: 330/67mm for my K-3ii lenses and 200/52mm for my Nikon Coolpix A. Worth waiting for in my opinion. I purchased one on eBay and the other on Amazon, setting up filters that alert me when one comes available in a specific size. You will likely have to wait for a few months...

Fortunately, the Samyang 14mm + good lens profile is a proven winner for even architectural shots.

I've 100% switched to doing all my post-processing in Affinity Photo after 25+ years of using every version of Photoshop since v1.0

(Note: I still do all my RAW conversions using DxO Optics Pro)

YMMV

NIKON D810 out of production - D850 coming?

um no. One can only achieve those kinds of numbers on mirrorless and with huge buffers.
They will be lucky if they can keep the same fps as the current D810.

definitely competition for the Nikon D5***/D7*** series. But not even close to the capabilities of the K-3 series (or for that matter the D500). This bodes well for those waiting for a replacement for the K-3ii as clearly whatever the new camera will be called is going to be positioned squarely between the capabilities of the KP and the K-1. And that will be a very good thing indeed.

Title says it all. Even Ricoh's website has no information. What's up with that?

---------- Post added 01-25-17 at 06:26 PM ----------

from PC magazine of all places:

"The KP has a single UHS-I memory card slot with support for SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards."

Ergo, *NOT* a K-3ii replacement.

Unhappy with DxOmark...

So a year ago, DxOmark reviewed the K-1 and gave it an excellent score of 96, putting it in the top 5 best full-frame cameras ever.
However a year later, they have yet to publish the data on the K-1 + Pentax lenses. Note that they have the data as the K-1 is fully supported with DxO Optics Pro v11. Wish they would get off their backsides...

I will traveling to NYC soon. I've probably been there 50 times in my life -- such a great place for photography!

The kit I will be bringing this time consists of the following:
  • K-3ii + grip

  • DA* 60-250mm f/4

  • DA 16-45mm

  • ThinkTank Digital Holster 30

  • Optech Pro strap system

  • 67mm Marumi closeup and CPL filters

Everything fits into the shoulder-mounted ThinkTank holster. I can carry this all day.
