Not familiar with the profiles. Are they easy to install? Work with LR6? Do you guys find the profiles to provide a better starting point for work in Lightroom than the standard Adobe Standard? Can anyone using these on the K-1 elaborate on the differences from Adobe Standard? thanks ...

Wonderful! When younger photographers or folks I meet ask for advice (landscapes) this is what I tell them -- most don't want to hear and very few implement.

I think the initial learning curve for young, diligent photographers is far faster now with the instant feedback that digital allows. There comes a plateau, however, where more is not better, and a slow diligent patience and experimentation is required to become better.

As for the difference between full frame and medium format in digital landscapes you've piqued my interest and if anyone can suggest any medium format photogs (interested in landscapes mainly) to check out I'd love to know …

In the film days, the difference between formats was immense. I had a friend who occasionally joined me on shoots who was always amazed that he could bring over his latest edition of Outdoor Photographer, cover the caption and ask me to guess what format made the image -- I was about 80% accurate between 35mm or not 35mm but only about 50% accurate if he asked me to guess between whether an image was between medium versus large format. There was always a percentage of shots which non-movement cameras of any format simply cannot capture. I've often wondered whether I'd be able to tell today the difference between a shot captured by large format digital camera utilizing movements versus a well captured, well edited full frame shot employing focus stacking or other blending techniques.

At least you got the program to work -- I had to unistall and go back to Luminar 2018. The last update didn't help so I guess I'll wait for the next update of the program to reinstall ….

I did have the chance to do a couple of quick shots with the 28-105 -- all were with the lens at 28mm and there were no hotspots. I didn't have time to test other focal lengths. This is one from along the Delaware River

Have fun!

Well said! Hell, I can't even get an electrician out here when paying . This goes hand in hand with all the product companies who run contests but keep rights to all the photos entered -- one prize offer and they have all the photo rights they need for years, effectively cutting photographers out of the business equation.

Photokina 2018 Q&A - What would you ask Ricoh?

No, I don't think that is harsh at all. I'm sorry, I found both the interview and the answers to be completely underwhelming.

Really glad I'm not a 645 owner. "Monitoring the 645 market"? For what, even more competitors?

If someone tells you several years after they have released a feature (pixel shift) that they are open to working with the software developers to realize the potential of the feature but are not currently doing so I'd expect at least a follow up question along the lines of a nicer than this worded: Why the hell not? It certainly isn't Adobe or any other software manufacturers duty to do this work on their own.

K-3ii successor info? teleconverter availability info? extension tube availability info? Resources available to Pentax development? Sorry, there is a difference between defferential and obsequious.

Which 3rd party PK lenses you treasure the most?

My favorites so far are the Sigma 180 3.5 -- great macro, nice bokeh. Also, the Leitax adapted Zeiss 135/2 -- incredibly sharp with beautiful out of focus areas. I actually like it better than the Sigma but it doesn't have the close focusing so I end up using the Sigma more. I've also enjoyed working with both Lensbaby velvet lenses.

Why Do YOU Stay With Pentax?

That's a tough question -- I love the K-1 but I mostly do landscapes and the lack of lighter F4 zooms is a big minus. I also did not expect to have to work so hard to research lenses and search for lenses to fill gaps I needed. If I was sure that Pentax was going to close some of the gaps in a timely fashion(with say a 17-35 or thereabouts F4, 70-200 f4, a full frame teleconverter, a tilt/shift) I would definitely be in the stay camp.

Great shots Bruce! And nice f-stop sequence. I've also been experimenting with double exposures on florals and have had some good results with combos of F8, F11 or F16 with F4 or 2.8. I've found though that going wider than 2.8 on the lensbaby leads to to much of a "halo" effect especially on lighter or pastel colors which I don't like to much -- you can sorta see what I mean on the upper left side of the hennessy bottle at the widest apertures.

I called it "The Salieri Syndrome" - Some of you might relate.

Yes, I certainly have the syndrome also -- but don't let it stop you from taking tons of pics and studying them for things you could do differently or better in the future. I almost always come back from a shoot and am initially disappointed with the results. There's always the "I shoulda done this" or "I could have used focus stacking here" etc. second guessing. One thing I've found that helps a lot is to let the images lay -- after your first edit to get rid of the obvious out of focus or bad images let the rest sit for a month or two and come back to them with fresh eyes free of the vision you had when you were taking the shots. You might be surprised at the results. I recently needed extra shots from a location I'd shot 20 years ago and went through my reject bins of film (yes, also a pack rat and have trouble throwing things out) from the location and found half a dozen shots that were really good -- I don't remember why I rejected them initially but with fresh eyes my perspective on these changed significantly ...

Yes, I was thinking along these lines also -- I just picked up the 67 120mm soft focus lens for very little from Japan to see what this would do. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet but from a few test shots it's an interesting lens to use. Focus is much more difficult with it though and it really needs to be on a tripod. The focal length is a bit long also. Hopefully I'll get a bit of time this fall to experiment with it more.

I don't know what's worse -- waiting for Pentax to update the K-3 and get on with the new lenses & a full-frame teleconverter or waiting for Jimmy Page to crack open the Zeppelin vaults and release some of the live material he promised for the 50th Zep anniversary …. either way waiting sucks ….

All images from Pentax 6x7 out of focus

As ffking stated it is probably the prism but if you want to definitively rule out your scanner or other problems and have the time run another roll of film through the camera with only distant subjects so that you can focus manually on infinity -- if the scans are still out of focus you've probably ruled out the scanner. A third and probably unlikely possibility is that the back pressure plate the film rests on is slightly off kilter giving you bottom in focus, top out of focus like you see in your pic (are all the shots out of focus in exactly the same way?).

Yes, exactly -- those possibilities had occurred to me also. I couldn't find any mention of the accident anywhere either. Even so, there should be succession plans in place in any well run company. At this point I have to assume my Biotar money is gone. The credit card company will check to see if there is any recourse and if not its just sit and wait and see if a white knight appears for the company.

Before this last news of the CEO's accident the last update was on July 5 which said the project was coming along fine but that Tokina was no longer involved in the project and that their would be an approx. 3-month delay while sourcing components from within Germany.. How do you go from everything's fine on July 5 to bankruptcy filing on July 17?
