Z-1, PZ-1 SE Silver Questions

I have one of the silver PZ-1 cameras (that I am about to sell) and the "75 years Pentax" marking is definitely not engraved. It looks like a small plastic plate (slightly thicker than a sticker) stuck on to the body.

Anyone tried the Leica Elmar 80-200 f4 zoom?

Daniel,
I think Taurus9 followed the instructions for the 35-70 that he suggests checking out. I had a look at them on the Leitax site and they explain it pretty well.

By the way it is your fault for my switch to rangefinders for selling me those great Leica R lenses. If I had never seen the results from the Elmarit in particular I would still be a very content Pentax user :o.

I have decided to head over to a Leica Rangefinder so all gear must go. I already have a couple of items listed separately here and there will be more to come in the next few days.

I have mentioned the presence of dust in most of these lenses. In all instances I have never seen anything to suggest that image quality is affected. It is very minor in all cases and I have only mentioned it for full disclosure.

1) M 75-150/4 zoom $40 Sold. This is in very good condition optically but definitely looks used. Everything works as it should - the zoom function works smoothly and has no play in it, and the focus and aperture rings work as they should. The slide out hood is a bit sticky but still works fine. Externally there is a fair bit of paint rubbed off and a few scratches but no dents or anything to suggest that it has been mistreated. Has great reviews, check them out on this forum.

Comes with pouch, caps and inbuilt hood.

2) Leica R 90mm f2 Summicron (k mount) $600 Sold. This is a lens that has excellent reviews and following wherever you look on the internet. It produces superb Leica colours and has a wonderful bokeh. Great for portraits. Optically there are no scratches, aperture and focus work properly and there is only minor dust inside.

Comes with caps and inbuilt hood.

3) Tokina AT-X 90mm f2.5 (Bokina) including 1:1 macro extender $420 Sold. This is a magnificent macro lens and the adapter is not always easy to find. It is very close to original condition with the only exception being some tiny dust particles in the lens. Again you can easily find rave reviews either on this forum or elsewhere on the net.

Comes with extender, Tokina caps and original lens hood.

4) Leica Macro-elmarit R 60mm f2.8 (k mount) $400 Sold. I have only had this lens a short while but I am very sorry to see it go. It have found it great for people shots as well as the macro function. I don't have the extender for this one but it goes to a 1:2 reproduction ratio without it so is pretty good anyway (there are quite a few on ebay if you want one). Everything works smoothly although the aperture ring doesn't "click" into position like every other lens I have, it just turns smoothly and then stays where you leave it. This is no issue as it still selects the aperture you set it to. Again there is some minor dust inside and no other optical imperfections. Cosmetically it is very good.

Comes with caps, no hood needed as the front element is deeply recessed.

5) Last but not least is my black FA 43mm limited $620 Sold. It is in excellent condition and has not seen much use. Comes with pouch, original caps and original hood.

I'll post pictures as replies.

Does anyone know if a katzeye for the k20d is compatible with a k-7? The packaging does not mention k-7 but was produced before the k-7 was in production.

Thanks for your description taurus9, from what I have read it is optically comparable to Leica R primes within it's zoom range but as you have noted its a bit on the heavy side. Can you give some details on how it functions in the photographer's hands - i.e what the process is to operate the zoom? The only manual zoom I have used was a Pentax M 75-150 which I found a bit slow for shot framing (it may just be me as I haven't used manual lenses much). I presume that you have to focus with the lens wide open and then set your exposure as I have to with my Leica primes?

Another member here also suggested staying away from ROM versions in another post - why do you say that? I'm presuming the Leitax apapters don't fit the ROM versions as it sounds as though you had to butcher yours a bit to convert it. Where did you buy yours?

Finally, if you get a chance could you post some images here with it please?

Thanks axl, piotr certainly looks like the Leica guru around here. I have researched piotr's posts before but have not found any info on zooms.

If anyone is interested Erwin Puts is currently printing his "Leica Compendium" which looks like a very professional and comprehensive historical account of the Leica business and individual reviews on their lenses. Cost is 62.50 Euros plus shipping and I think he is only doing one print run of which a fair proportion has already been sold so better get in quick if interested.

More info can be found on his website here: Blog
If you send him an email through his website he'll give you the costing and how to pay.

Cheers
