Fantastic collection, probably some of the best shots I have seen from a Lubitel 2.

Funny story of camera disassembly

I always use a plastic storage box that is divided into sections, as used for storing small craft items. Each sub-assembly goes into its own compartment with fixing screws, the compartments are used in order as disassembled so its just a case of reversing direction when assembling. The box has the advantage of having a lid so that removes the problem of bits getting mixed up if it gets knocked or moved.

The marks that show on the bottom of the frame mainly in picture 2 don't look like light leaks, more likely uneven development caused by insufficent agitation during processing. The marks normally coincide with the film perforations.

Pentax K2 prism

Thanks for that, so it doesn't look too hopeful. I did find a post elsewhere that suggested the prism from a Minolta XG-1 would fit so perhaps if all else fails I will try that.

I have a K2 with a prism that has a small silvering defect. I would like to replace the prism and am wondering if one from a different more easily obtainable model would fit.

Those shots are much better, really shows the camera's true capabilities.
I have always found that if you want decent scans then you need to do them yourself.

The above pictures also seem to apply to the S1a because I have both early and late models which show the same differences to the actuating lever.

This can happen when the switch contacts are slightly too close, even with the shutter lock on the slighest pressure on the button is enough to activate the switch and cause battery drain.

Optical Measurements of Pentax ME Super Shutter Speed

I have a similar setup that I use although mine is a little more elaborate in the fact that it has 2 light detectors so that I can measure both curtains independently.

However I measure from the point where the trace starts to rise to the point where it starts to fall. I find by doing this it eliminates the rise and fall times and is easier to make sense of the traces for the fast shutter speeds. I have shown my system drawn in green on one of your original diagrams below.

Spotmatic SP500 - Meter working but with some issues

This is usually a sign that there is corrosion or dust in the needle pivot bearing or possibly that the needle is making physical contact with the casing or screen. If it is dust then you may be able to clear it with a careful blast of canned air but normally once they start doing this it is time for a replacement meter.

Alien life forms...fungus in the prism

The fungus is definitely not inside the glass, that is not physically possible.

It may have etched the surface of the glass or got between the glass and the silvering. Whilst strong UV light may kill the fungus and stop it growing further it will not remove it or any damage it has done.
If it cannot be cleaned manually from the surface then the only option is to replace the prism.

I normally use an oscilloscope to test shutter speeds but for those who want to play with the simpler system using a phone app there is more information on the link below ( there is also a link about the free app)

Pentax ME Super stuck aperture coupling ring on camera body

The tab you are talking about is actually fixed onto the ring below with 2 screws so you should be able to take it off and straighten it properly.
You may need to unscrew the lens mount to get decent access but this would be helpful because it would enable you to lubricate the ring, it is quite common for the oil to dry out on this ring which makes the movement of the ring very sluggish and can lead to exposure problems and lens jamming.

H1a mirror foam replacing query...

I have replaced seals in about a dozen different cameras, quite a few different pentax models. I have 2 S1a's that I have operated on and managed to do the mirror foam without dismantling the camera, it isn't easy but it can be done. I never use foam for door seals, I always use black double knitting wool. After cleaning out the old foam (that's the difficult bit) with the help of a small brush I apply black nail varnish inside the goove and press the wool into it before it dries, easy to do and makes a perfect light seal.

I posted this a few years ago but I see in my original posts that it was posted via a hosting site that is no longer working, so for anyone that may need it here it is again.
This is an enhanced image of pentax original.

You can't install brighter LEDs, the original ones are all joined in a single assembly and standard LEDs would not fit.

MX metering

You have adjusted the right thing, on this later PCB it is the only meter adjustment possible.
The fact that it had to be altered suggests that something else in the circuit isn't performing as good as it once was, most likely the 2 light sensors at each side of the viewfinder, could be just dusty so worth having a look at them.

Pentax Super A Aperture priority problem

Take the lens off, look into the camera lens mount, on the right hand side about 2 'o' clock is a small lever, with your finger you should be able to move this down to about 4 'o' clock, it should then spring back up of it's own accord. Quite often the ring that this lever is attached to suffers with dried up lubrication, a couple of tiny drops of oil in the gap between the ring and the mount should free it off.

Using flash with mechanical bodies

Nobody seems to have mentioned sync speed. On the SV shutter dial you will se an "X" marked between 30 and 60, this is the fastest shutter speed that you can use with flash connected to the X socket. You can use slower speeds but using a shutter speed faster than "X" will give you an incomplete frame. edit .....(whoops, sorry Stevebrot, I now see that you mentioned this in your post)
