I don't know about others, but I am shooting next to Dan with his Canon 6D (and I do this a lot) and while in most cases in BIF hard conditions he gets the focus tack sharp, I have to invoke the gods of Pentax, Ricoh and others. While I work 20 images for a good catch, his rate is much more higher. And I am not saying this because he is my friend, this is the simple reality. Otherwise, for static subjects? Pentax is awesome and I will never blink an eye in choosing it against Canon or Nikon.

LaterEdit: And yes, as RockvilleBob says, 300 is a darn impressive lens but the motor is slow. It simply misses that beat.

Pentax 300mm DA* Little Loose Focusing Ring

Hi Ter-or,

The clacking occurs when I simply move the focusing ring as mentioned above, back and forth, left and right while the camera is off. I do hear some soft clacking as well when the camera tries to focus and doesn't quite get the focusing point, but I believe this is normal. And one more thing that I notice is that when I turn the focusing ring, the scale doesn't start to move at the same time, but has a small lag.

The DA* 300 has a quickshift system.

Michaelina2, indeed, I am trying to see if I should have any concern with it. If it is normal, then I won't give it a second though and just be happy with it.

Thank you for the answers, stargazer and biz-engineer. I did notice this behavior when I moved the focusing ring and I heard a bit of a "clacking" noise. Do you have that noise such as hitting two pieces of hard plastic/metal, too? If that is so, then I will just enjoy my copy.

Hello All,

I just bought a brand new Pentax 300 mm DA* F4 lens which I am very happy about. The only thing that I noticed is that the focusing ring is a bit loose, having a 0.5 mm or so play (left - right, front - back of the lens).

Before going back to the shop with it, can other similar lens possessors share if they have the similar "problem" aka it is something normal for this lens?

I did search on Google and I found that a canon lens exhibits the same behavior and they say it is normal and I want to make sure this is not a reason for return.

Thank you,

Raz

Hey,

a picture taken with Pentax K-3 II and Pentax 100 mm Macro F2.8 WR. With this combination I am very satisfied, the only issue I have is with Sigma 17-50 F2.8 which has small problems with autofocus at longer distances it seems, problems which I didn't encounter on the K-5 II body.

Hey there dear Pentaxians,

I wanted to share with you a photo which I very much like.

A short description for it as well:

A sunny day like no other in the Fagaras Mountains, Romania. The weather was very calm at the bottom of the mountain, but the peaks were beaten by high-speed winds and were covered by clouds.

The image looks a bit blurred as far as I can see, so a better quality view can be found here. If a link to 500px is not allowed, do tell me and I will swiftly remove it.

Thank you,

Razvan

This shot was taken at the sunset. Minimal processing was done:
- sharpness
- linear contrast
- saturation + 15

Exposure metering was done on the clock bright section.

Don't be gentle with the critique!

Thank you :)

Micro Scratches on the Pentax KII-5 LCD Screen

Hey all,

Just to let you know, I have discussed today with the official Pentax representative from my country and in case you want to replace the LCD protective screen, you have to replace the whole LCD. I have no information of the costs however.

This is for future questions like mine :).

Micro Scratches on the Pentax KII-5 LCD Screen

Hello all again and thank you for the responses!

@DogLover: trust me, it was shocking for me too since I kept the body in its box most of the part and when I got it out I left a few fingerprints on it by accident and a trails of my nose :). After gently cleaning the LCD screen with a glasses cleaning wipe I noticed the respective scratch. I can see it only in strong light, when the LCD is turned off and only from a certain angle. Also, it is thinner than a hair and 5 mm long. So, I have two possibilities:

1. either the screen was not correctly protected (almost 0% chances?)
2. the K5-II is resistant to scratches but not to micro scratches

From what I read here, the only possibility is to repair it using the above mentioned tricks since the K5-II LCD surface cannot be changed because of its design?

@Ciprian, thank you! I bought it from Focus94 - Aparate foto, camere foto Pentax, Sigma. The shop owner is really a great guy. Since we are from the same country we can use the PM system to exchange impressions :).

Hello fellow pentaxians,

Three days ago I bought a Pentax K5-II of which I am very proud. Although being a very responsible person with my equipment, while having a closer look at the LCD in stronger light I have already noticed some micro scratches (some 5 mm long). To be honest, I am not really sure how they ended up there as I have been very careful not to touch the screen with the cord, zippers and so on.

Most probably these can't be fixed and I wouldn't attempt to repair them with any solution as I presume I would do more damage to it. The question is, if I will ever want to exchange the LCD screen surface sometime in the future, will it be possible since it is an air-gapless screen? Do you have any experience doing this?

Thank you in advance for your answers!

Razvan

I vote for being distracting. You can try removing the bits from the picture. The rest is very nice, I like the contrast - yellow/black.

This picture was taken in a forest in Romania. The light was gentle so it gave a strong contrast between the mushrooms and the background. :)

This is one of my dearest photographs. It portraits a curious and shy appearance in one of my flower pots, after a rainy day. The camera I used back then is still my trusted companion today :).

This is my first contest and I would like to wish all the luck to the other participants :).

Thank you very much for the welcome, Adam!

I am very glad you appreciate it. After carefully reading your comment, I tend to say you are right. The problem is that I really don't know how could have I focused the plant and the stump at the same time. Any ideeas? Maaybe focusing from a higher ground?

About the crop, I will try to do that today and we shall see what happens.

P.S. For every picture I post do i have to create a new thread or should I use the same?

First of all, I would like to tell you that this is my first photo on PentaxForums and that I am glad to be here, among you.

The ideea of the photograph is pretty straightforward: life can show up in many many different and unexpected places, thus continuing the life cycle which cannot be broken so easily.

The little tree in the photograph is located in the forests of Alunis, Romania and what is special about it is that it planted its roots right in the middle of the stump of a very old tree which was cut down some time ago.

To emphasize the whole ideea, I took the picture using the flash of the camera, thus increasing the contrast between the plant and the background (the stump is natural black and wet because of the rain, that is why you can see the white spots in the left part of the picture).

Well, that is kind of it! I am looking forward for your critique! Thank you!

Larger picture is here.
