Wanted - Acquired: Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 28/f3.5 - Aus

Hi all,

I'm after a very clean Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 28/f3.5, ideally with original square hood and front/rear caps. I would also consider the Super Takumar version (model 2 - 49mm filter).

Preferably Australia (the AUD is weak at the moment, so international gets very expensive...)

Thanks, Nick

SV advice and 'market of origin'

That's what I was hoping, something simple and mechanical without any circuits.

Big call! We'll see :)

I also have a Spotmatic F (which admittedly probably needs a good clean), which is much grainier than my LX/MX. Is the VF and focussing screen comparable? I agree that the dimmer/grainier screens often make focussing easier. Similar issue with the really bright Hasselblad Acute Matte screens.

Interesting, a 55/f1.8 is coming with the SV and I have a SMC 50/f1.4 from the Spotty, so I'll be able to compare.

Slightly off topic, but am I correct in thinking that by the Spotmatic era the colour had became meaningless and they settled on green R's?

SV advice and 'market of origin'

Hi all,

So my search for a pre-Spotmatic Pentax has finally born fruit (after a recent, highly traumatic classifieds miss on a black-paint S2 Super :( ) and I have a mint single-owner SV (red R) and assorted goodies on their way :)

In the meantime, can anyone suggest any tips, tricks and issues to watch for? Most of my Pentax experience is with the MX/LX. I have a Spotty F, but I've never even held a 'S' series... Is a SV much like a Spotmatic (sans electrics) with regard to reliability?

Also, is it possible to tell the camera's 'market of origin' from the body itself? It belonged to the seller's late father, and she wasn't sure if he purchased it new in Australia, or if a friend had bought it for him while on holiday in Japan. Is there any difference between SV's for the Australian and Japanese markets?

Thanks!

Well that's peculiar timing, I stumbled across this 2013 thread this morning...

My understanding is that 'Marvin' measured a 7-element on a green R SV and it fit.

Yep don't disagree with any of that. I was just disputing that the M-A was/is being bought up by collectors.

While that's true of some Leicas (notably the 'special editions' they release regularly at insane prices), I don't think it is the case with the M-A.

It's a mass production item available from anywhere that sells Leica, and while all Leica M's are expensive, the mass produced models rarely attract collector interest. I've been following the M-A closely since release and from what I can gather the interest is primarily from shooters. Personally it's probably the only camera available today (film or digital) that I would happily spend 'serious' money on.

Indeed, Leica released the all-new 35mm M-A as recently as 2014.

OK...

Because the market (at a mass production scale anyway) no longer existed.

The lovely Chinon 45/f2.8 - a great alternative to the M40mm pancake.

This was one of the first lenses I used on my first MX, about 10 years ago.

I had the Chinon pancake on my first MX. Such a lovely bit of glass, and makes the MX *almost* pocketable.
