On my camera K10 there is a function where you lock your mirror up and use it as a two second timer which helps with very delicate shots. There is also a three second lock up to use with your remote that allows you to have the the same effect. These are good for shots that must be dead still--most night shots and very long range shots are what I use it for. You would hit the fn button after turning your camera on; arrow up to the icon that is a square (single shot) and then arrow over to which one you want. Locking the mirror up reduces shake from taking the shot. Hope this helps.

I love the shots, especially nos. two and six. I try to frame water shots like you with broken timber which adds a different color to the shot. You were able to get fungus growing on the broken wood which is really neat. I went shooting last weekend to some springs here in Missouri that had the green and water like these. Again I really like!

I looked in my bird book and I believe it is a immature Cooper's Hawk too. They often have an unstreaked belly like your bird and the Sharp shinned has streaks all the way down. The wing and back match to the Cooper's too. Sharp shinned is more brown.

I love night shots. This is a great one and I love the moon giving it some more feeling other than just a night time city shot--really sets it off.

I like both shots--he does not look expressionless to me. In the first shot if you can, I would remove the tall pole just to the right of the boy, the other things blend in and don't stick out. On pic two I like the dead stubble in front which to me makes a picture frame--but to each his own. Are these to be enlarged and hung up?

Good job!

I love the photos again. You don't see the wrapped big bales down in our part of the world, so it is nice to have something different added in. I really like the last two--I would print large and hang those two somewhere for all to see. CONGRATS!

I will say "SHUT UP" which for those who don't know--this means in this instance TOTALLY IMPRESSIVE. My next experiment is going to be trying for the star trails like in your pictures. Thank you for posting them and how they were made. Congrats and again WOW!

I love the dew look. The last one looks like clear jewels hanging in the air, because you barely see the web. Poor dragonfly is probably too wet to fly. Very cool shots!

I love the photos too, very sharp and clear with nice color--my fav is the African eagle. I am into the wildlife shots, but am still practicing before posting any. I also shoot with the K10D and love it. I in fact now have two of them. One for the smaller lens and one for the big ones. I am working on upgrading the lenses too--hopefully the pics will be upgraded too.

I did not know what the plant was either until one day at Lowes garden center and they had the plant for sale. It is dark due to it being in the woods and I was shooting down and across at it.

I love how the plant stands out, it is one of my favorite shots. Thanks JimH

A ray of sunshine was actually hitting the plant and that is why there is light on it at all. I guess I don't see the harshness.

Thanks again for the comments. I continue to learn with everyone's help and time behind the camera.:D

Thanks for posting the info on the shot--now I see that you live in Missouri too. Guess it was a vacation shot. Still I love the calm feeling the picture causes when I look at it. I can hear the water and smell the air.

Thanks for the information about bees and stings Arvin. I hope to never get stung again, but carry the epi-pen with me just in case. I had seen the above pic before in my own skin, but wasn't sure about the trailings--now I am. I am in fact a champion for the bee now, especially with the death problems they are having--when I garden and if I must spray like this year for the Japanese Beetle, I waited until no bees would be out (sprayed after dark) and was not to kill them after three hours on plant. I guess the shot can make more than just me squirm. LOL

Yes, I thought I would post another flower picture--I had this in the gallery under nature and just thought I would ask for comments. Thanks!!

Shot at 270mm and cropped. 1/640sec, f 5.6, ISO 200 with K10 and the Sigma 50-500mm--I think it was on a monopod or handheld.

What should I do to better myself--I don't like to use to much PP after a shot.

I love number three with the trunk leading your eyes down the trunk and into the woods. It would be a scary place to get lost in for sure, but yet comfortable feeling. Maybe they could be Ents asleep.

I have a question about the shot and bees. By getting the venom there was no sting, so does the bee live? I thought that honey bees died after stinging. The picture by the way is great and definitely makes me weak--I am highly allergic to bees and I was squirming in my seat on this one. I am not as terrified of them since starting to garden back in the 90's, I now can stand right next to a plant and work with bees in it--a plus!

I liked the ones you post before the PP but you helped the last two from the first and the new ones are great. I love the different colors for the water not a traditional white alone but with others colors like the reddish tone etc. VERY NICE. Hope you can make it to the lake some time.

I shot these this morning before 6:30 am CST. I thought the dew made the darker one look like it had ice or silver dust on it. Shot with Sigma 70-300 f/4-5.6 Macro. Please comment and enjoy!:)

Ash

Thanks for the info. I did see my shadow and have a copy with it cropped out. I tried to clone it out but it didn't work so well. The columns in most of my photos seem to be leaning. I was wondering if it was made to look like that. Thanks again and I will keeping trying.

Comments on these three shots please. Taken with a k10d, 18-55mm pentax lens. First shot was 3 sec, f/4, ISO 100 at 18mm; second shot was 30 sec, f/20, ISO 100 at 18mm; and third shot was 1/4 sec, f/5.6, ISO 100 at 50mm.

This is a suspension type bridge and when people are walking or moving the bridge does have movement on it, even with the tripod.:(

Enjoy

Thank you everyone for all the welcomes to the forum. I didn't realize so many people in Missouri were Pentaxians:cool:

Hopefully I will gain a lot of information and knowledge from this site with all the different photographers and their fields of likes and dislikes. It gives me something more to shoot for.

Monochrome,

I am not that far away--Oran is just below Cape Girardeau. I have been to St. Louis to shoot pics lately twice. Eagles at Alton and the bird preserve and at the Butterfly house. Let me know more about the early June deal and Thanks
