Yes this is the 50mm f/1.4. I mean that by f/2.0 the bokeh is great, at f/1.4 it's not as good (as is expected from most lens wide open), you can check the reviews on this site about it.

Sunday bump with adjusted prices and more clear shipping info. Also added picture of the grip (weirdly I got many asking about the grip, but the deals didn't materialize. I can assure you the grip is in great shape, has all the original accessories (2 battery trays, plastic cap, original box), and it's also priced to sell (new ones are 190$). It's much better than the Chinese knock-off (I know, my father-in-law bought one and it broke after a few weeks). Don't be afraid to ask questions about any of the items, I'll try to post more pictures of items when I have more time.

That's pure conjecture, nobody really knows the cost except the camera makers who buy or make them.

Anyway, if Pentax can build a 645D (and this sensor costs thousands) and sell only a few thousands a year and be happy with it, why not a FF? That's certainly not by lack of know-how.

I maybe in the minority here but I prefer an EVF for its unmatched previewing capabilities. I used a GH2 for a while and I would die to get an EVF like this on my K-01. The OVF will die faster than we think IMO, especially in high end cameras where the mirror box is just to slow to compete : the Nikon V1 is already capable of doing 60fps at full resolution. I cannot see how a DSLR could match that with an OVF and mirror unless there is some sort of hybrid solution.

As for Pentax FF, why not a K-01 type of camera? But add an EVF, PD-AF, flippy LCD and WR... and it can be made cheaper and much lighter by removing the prism/mirror box. And start selling it for 1200$. I would buy that in a heart beat, even at 1500$.

Thank you :) No multi-exposure but just the use of the full capacity of the K-5 dynamic range, the original shot was underexposed (on purpose) by 3 stops to avoid too much highlight clipping and then some PPing to bring back the deep shadows. I've printed it on 16x24.

About 1/3 of a stop better than the Mark 1. Not too bad and an impressive performance for such a small camera. For fun I compared it with older DSLR like the K10D and it fares pretty well against it, even beating it in DR by about 1 stop on the whole range... I'll probably upgrade my MK 1 to the new one for the other features too.

You got it right but there is always a risk that Ricoh will do like Sony did with Minolta. I don't think many people think Sony respected the Minolta "idiom" too much except maybe for the A900.

I agree for the horizontal borders but in the center, I don't think there's many lens as sharp as the DA 15mm even at f/4. That's maybe why the borders disappoint. But in many situations it's not a big deal.

Your call but you're delaying your pleasure with this unique lens :)

There's a lot of drama around this name change but for now it's only a label change on the bottom of the camera, nothing to worry about. The real test will be when they will release really new models. When Sony took over Minolta, it took them at least a couple of year before releasing anything substantial, they only had the rather average Alpha 100 for a while. I expect the next big advances will come around september/october.

In my own testing I found the DA* sharper in the range they have in common but the DA 12-24 has much less distortion at 16mm.

Free bump, I would buy it if I didn't already have one. It's one of the sharpest Pentax lens ever made. I know people prefer the more popular 90-100mm but I feel they are often more difficult to use hand held. I've made some of my best macros with it (see here from flickr, the 1st ones are from me).

Starts with the DA 55-300mm, the old joke is that it's much better from 55 to 299mm than the DA* 300mm... It's not that slow, just one stop slower than the DA*, not too bad and still f/4.5 up to about 200mm.

FA 1.4/50 vs DA* 1.4/55

The FA 50mm has not so bad resolution at f/1.4, it's just low contrast that kills apparent sharpness, but with some PP it's somewhat fixable. What is less fixable is the bad bokeh (IMO) at f/1.4, but around f/2 it's creamy enough.

I'd like the DA* but the high price, slow focusing and above all the big size make it low on my lens wish list. I love portraits done with the FA 50mm @ f/2.0 and it satisfies me enough that I don't see a big need for the DA*. Otherwise, objectively speaking the DA* has slightly superior IQ, particularly below f/2.
