70-210 versus 60-250

I can confirm this first hand.

It does not come with a foot???

In some way it does because the sharpness falls off noticably outside the APS-C area. Even at f/8.

I haven't used the 70-210 but – assuming image quality is fine – I'd recommend that one to you.

The 60-250 would only be your choice if you rely on a tripod foot as a knock-out criteria. And of course if your life as a photographer ends instantly if you don't have those 40mm at the long end at infinity any more.

Yea, AI is probably over-uses for stuff that actually isn't artificial intelligence, but that's off topic.

How I understood the RAW format, it can be adopted by any editor as Apple makes the necessary info available. However, I assume it will be work for the developers to implement it and I'm not sure who is willing to do that extra work. Similar to pixelshift. My thought is that Pentax could also continue developing their software in that direction. As a non engineer I don't know what is possible these days. Perhaps something like dividing a long exposure for astro in shorter individual exposures and computing a cleaner end result?

What I found interesting in that announcement is their new Apple RAW format which includes both the original pixel data and the processing information from their AI (or however you may call it). It basically includes all the processing information how to achieve the end result as Apple thinks to be a good result. I think any other camera with a processor could do that kind of stuff as well, or not?

Very nice. Finding the right spot for framing the foreground in a pleasant way is where I often struggle.

Regarding big prints - as the others just said - you can calculate yourself how large you can print in good quality. It depends on one thing that you need to research or ask your print shop: What is the dpi they print in. DPI is dots-per-inch.

Short viewing distances like 30cm-50cm need a higher dpi like 300 dpi. For example post cards or so...
Longer viewing distances like posters are usually viewed at 1m or more. In those cases it is enough to print in 150 dpi or less.

Let's say you have an image from the K-1 which has a resolution of 7360 pixels on the long side. At 150 dpi you can print at (7360/150 = 49.06 inches = 124cm) 1.24 meters without losing quality.

I use Affinity or Silkypix DSP10 and find both very good. I like the manual correction tool in Affinity. Silkypix does not have such. Zerene and Helicon I have tested but didn’t fid any relevant advantages there for me. My MacBook Pro is 7 years old.

Yes, the list of supported cameras says that the KP is supported since Capture One 10.1.
Traditionally they support all Pentax FF and APSC cameras, but it can take quite a while after a new camera is out.

As my website I built my own one with Drupal because I already had experience with it.

For client delivery I chose Pixieset. They have both a website and a store option where you can sell photos but I haven’t used that yet.

Pentax people said that it won't be that. It will be a completely new camera. Not an evolutionary step from the K-3.

Agree. To me it looks like they are in for the long run, playing the infinte game. By stating their position and focussing on a limited and well defined area, they can focus their resources and make less but better products. I hope they maintain an attractive lineup of apsc, ff and mf cameras.

Not frustrated or calling it stupid, but I'd like to see that as an option. Imho it's part of the digital advantage that shouldn't be left out. Some basics are already there (automatic scene detection and colour enhancement).

My K-1 puts 500 photos in one folder before it creates a new folder. It does not make a new folder every time i turn it off and on. Perhaps there is a setting for that, but I don't recall that I have changed the default setting.

Good discussion and thanks for the link. Some great images there.

Imho there is a wide variety and no "one truth". Portraits with other elements in the frame do provide context, I think we all agree. I personally think that this often describes the situation rather than personality. When I want to "see" the person, I look him/her deep in the eyes and want to see what happens with the facial expression. Humans can read the slightest variations. So for the personality aspect, I'd tend to remove as much as possible to leave the bare human to communicate and let the eyes speak. Adding more objects can be a distraction.

Otoh when we add additional context we can still see the pose and facial expression. But is that personality or rather the emotional state/attitude about that particular moment?

There is always the underlying question of the purpose and what we want to achieve with the photo. I think neither is more or less true or wrong in general. They are just different approaches.

Regarding the background blur... It's a tool that we an utilise or not. It can alter the foreground and background in various degrees. It can have a strong visual effect and is hard to master. Perhaps that's the reason why people are fascinated by it – just a guess.

Hmm... I wouldn't call the fat fifty technical. It does colours, transitions and bokeh really well. I'd rather put the 100mm macro and the 24-70 in that area, they have much less character. Irrc the new 85 is optimised for skin colour so I don't expect that one to have really good colour rendering.

I went through 3 copies and all suffered from decentering in different variations even at f/8. The seller refused to send me another copy and I also lost interest in this lens as I already have the 60-250 debaffled. But from what I saw, I can imagin that it is an excellent lens when you have a good copy.

I've been using it for years exclusively both for personal and work. Currently they have a daily live series on youtube where you can see how Photographers and Designers use the apps. You can ask them questions in those live comments. Affinity - YouTube

One great thing about the suite is that you can switch between the apps without leaving the document. Meaning when you have a photo placed in a document in Designer or Publisher you are working on, then you can edit that photo in place with Photo without having to launch Photo separately and switch back and forth. It just changes the UI in your current document. Amazing.

Is 24 what you wish for or do you know something that I don't know? I'd hope for a 35...

If that's unretouched and how it comes sooc, then I am really impressed. Even on the highlights on the ring there are no noticable off-colours. (pic 02)

For pixelshift I think both benefit from it. However, the lower end of lenses don't really. There has to be a certain sharpness & quality level beyond what the sensor pixel layout can do if you don't use pixelshift. I think the 24-70 does benefit from pixelshift. However, if you have a lens where the sharpest area is still blurry across 2 or 3 pixels, we will get that blur pixelshifted but won't see improved sharpness. But still I like pixelshift for better colour accuracy as well.
