So much nice work here!
It's nice to browse through and see what you all have been up to with your lenses pointed skyward.
The other night I was out shooting the milky way.....when I happened to turn to the North. Aurora!
I was out in the middle of a country road, thus the power lines.
considering them, I left them in.
I think they add a nice component.

Beautiful!
Love to see you all post your astrophotography,
I haven't been out in awhile myself.
Would you believe I've been chasing birds around during the day?
Yes, birds.
I'll try and get out again before the Perseids fly.
Keep up the posts!

Hi Stockhatch. Your 24mm lens is just fine for Milky Way captures, and more.
While not as wide a 14mm or a 10mm fisheye, you'll be fine.
With a 24mm, you should be able to do 20 second exposures without star trailing.
Set your camera to manual. Go in your menu and choose use aperture ring. Wide open to 1.4.
Manual focus to infinity.
Try iso 1600 and don't be afraid to use 3200 if necessary.
I use 1600 usually for the Milky Way.
Shooting in RAW would also be a suggestion.
White balance is up to you.
Auto - Daylight - Tungston, etc.
Turn off image stabilization.
I think that's about it.
I'm not a pro, but have made a few decent Milky Way images lately.
Good luck.
