Thank you Abbazz for a great review. Much more indepth than I was expecting. The DSB looks darn good! I will study your excellent comparison photos in greater detail. This looks like a very useable product on the Q! Appreciate all the work you put into this.
Thanks again,
barondla

This review also needs to be posted on the PentaxForums front page! Maximum exposure for the Q, DSB, and Abbazz!

Lensbaby copy built for Q?

Lens has built in apertures. That is cool. It also appears to use a ball to bend. This is more like the Lensbaby Composer than earlier Lensbabies.

What does this lens offer that a Lensbaby doesn't? The focal length is very long at 53mm. A Lensbaby Composer with double glass optic would give 50mm. Could even use the Sweet 35 optic for less magnification and have built in apertures. A generic Q to PK adapter would match this lense's capabilities. The Pentax oem adapter with shutter would do things this knockoff can't. Of course a LB Composer with Sweet 35 optic and Pentax oem adapter don't come cheap. Definetly not for $55.

Used the LB Composer/Pentax oem adapter on the Q a few times. The Q crops so much it only uses the sharp sweet spot of the LB. So it looses the blurry "movement" effect one gets on an APSc or ff body. Hard to do a lot creatively with the Q and a LB.

An 8mm LB like lens built for the Q would be more interesting. This knockoff also mentions macro. How much magnification is this lens capable of?

Thanks,
barondla

Agree it would be great to see another batch of these lenses for the Q. Even better would be a pancake lens like the Perar shown in his workshop. MS Optical Japan - Japan Camera Hunter scroll down to see it. Build this in a Q friendly focal length and people would buy it. It looks so beautiful.

Thanks

Pentax Q w Pentax toy wideangle lens. Bug on screen wasn't quite dramatic enough so Used PSE to add spherical distortion.

Wow Abbazz! The Speed Booster quality looks superb wide open. Didn't expect it to look this good. Does it fall off in color?

Surprised the adapter was available and obtainable this quickly. Can't wait to see more results and to get your thoughts on it. You should write a review for Pentax Forums. A little extra Q exposure never hurts.
Thanks,
barondla

Super photo Shedking. Not an easy bird to photograph. Especially with manual focus.

Are you saying the Tokina was taken apart to be painted?

Great info kwb. Thanks for investigating. Never would have figured this technique out on my own. Very handy that SilkyPix allows both choices to be used. I like this a lot. Now have to look at all my Q7 /03 shots and see what turns up.

I have the 04 wide. It is also great for macro. Anyone know if it auto crops on Q7 and Q-S1?

Thanks,
barondla

07 Shield Mount lens - modification?

Looking at the 07 lens it seems odd that the focus point has been fixed between ~ .7 - 2m. This means the lens element is too far from the sensor to infinity focus. Seems a strange range for most people.

Wondering if there is anyway to move the glass element closer to the focal plane? Haven't handled the 07. Not sure how it is constructed. Is the body plastic or metal? Is the glass element held in by threaded retaing ring like a filter? Can the element be removed from the Mount Shield?

If the lens element could be repositioned to a focus range of ~1.5 - 4m it would be a lot more useful to me and probably many others.
Thanks

Superb dual bee shot! Very impressive quality. Like the dramatic look.

Thanks for the info Cipher. Tried the c paper and it worked fine on the Q7/03. Not surprised the uncropped has more resolution. Cropping throws away pixels. Original Q is probably sharper than the Q7 in crop mode with 03.

Any adaptable lenses make the Q truly pocketable?

Pancake lens might not be possible on the Q due to the leaf shutter. That has to take up extra depth in the lens. Also the Q has even less registration distance than it appears. The moving dust shield gobbles up a lot of it.

Thanks

Third party batteries degraded much faster than Pentax one. What's your experience?

Bought 4 Wasabi about 3 years ago. 2 have died. Didn't lose capacity but did swell. Stopped using them. Other 2 still work fine. Also have a Kodak Play Sport water proof PnS that uses same battery. That Kodak battery works as well as the Pentax.

Got 3 Wasabi for the Sigma DP(same as Ricoh GR). Sigma eats the battery faster than Q. I get 50 -100 shots. Can't tell any capacity difference from original Sigma. None of the batteries have swelled.

As much as I have used the Wasabi, I would buy them again. Even the 2 that went bad gave me hundreds of charges.
Batteries are interesting!
Thanks

Phenix jc, superb landscape image using the 02 lens. The 02 doesn't get the love it deserves. Your skill makes the Q7 and 02 sing.
