Have they not thought of the idea of having a little bakery in the shop, so always the bread is newly baked. They can ship in 'kit bread' which only needs to be put in the oven for the time written on the instructions so anyone in the shop could make it work. Then they could market 'fresh bread' or 'freshly baked bread', depending on the fine detail of the law there.

Similar problem here in England. It seems the shop waits till the milk is almost out of date before they bother to put it on the shelf for sale. So someone is having a big warehouse somewhere storing it for most of its shelf life, and we end up paying for that too in the price we pay.

Australian shops usually have milk with 10 or more days on the shelf. No-one wants to pay to have a big fridge to store it in, so better to make it, ship it, sell it. And the supermarkets get over the shipping frequency problem by arranging that the stock control work is done by an independent contractor, who may even be the owner of the milk until it is sold in the shop - so they would pay costs for disposal of old stuff too.

But even if they did not tell you anything there would be someone who had noticed the boss called to a meeting resulting in a cancellation with them, or something like that, and the rumours would start.

The solution Adam recommended is essentially the same. I was caught out with one of those variations to software inflicted by update downloads when there was nothing wrong with the functionality before. So the same idea of having display settings and saved image characteristics separated seems to have afflicted Apple too.

I was using a MacBook but it got old and now is unable to operate for more than a few minutes without restarting. Sad, but I cannot remember which year it was new. About 2008 to 2010 period so it had a long life, even if not heavily used.

Look on the threads I started. I asked the same question a while back.

Has to do with recent versions of Windows and MS inability to appreciate that some changes they make in how their stuff works cause confusions.

This morning at work the Canon photocopier/printer got itself in a knot. I went to log n to print something and it would not give me the right screen.

After a while I turned it off, and then on again, and went to talk to someone while it warmed up. Worked when I go bad.

Clearly Canon were plotting to reduce workplace productivity by limiting the reliance I could place on their product.

But the dairy club are not trying to promote bacon. Hopefully many of them do eat bacon along with their dairy stuff.

You make is sound like you don't really need the money from the 401k, so even if the rules say you must take some out, you can roll it into another investment. Can you control the amounts you move so that what you take out makes reasonable investment parcels?

In US, at your age is this money treated as already yours (not taxed) or the whole amount taxed, or the profits from the original amount invested taxed?

In Australia I have three years to go till my pension money is treated as already mine, not taxed. That is a nice thought. It also makes a couple of decisions needed, a bit like yours and the questions I asked. I will not need the money at that age, if things continue as they are, so I will be in a position where I can roll the money back in, which works out more profitable than just leaving it there untouched. Hmm????

Soem time ago one of you mentioned a Finnair flight, 666 from somewhere in Sweden to HEL.

On Friday 13 October it flew its last.

As a result of restructuring Finnair flight numbers it is now:
SIN -> FinnAir666 -> HEL

Can you believe anyone would really do that?

Got that from BBC last Saturday.

Brussel sprouts are very popular here. They have many in all the supermarkets. And they are part of the traditional Christmas dinner.

For lunch I did not have bacon.

But what I did eat was hog roast. Don't get a chance for that very often. But it is good when I do have it.

This is not because I am a bacon hater, just that the victuals offered today were a different way of cooking the same porcine type of supplier of meat. (Meat - NOTE: processed grass for the vegetarians.)

One job I had to do was drill a 3/8" hole in a largel ingot of lead. Real hard. The lead was so malleable it formed long snakes that filled the drill flutes and the drill did not cut if off at the front end. Real hard to extract the drill bit from the lead.

Surely (Shirley) I was not using the best drill bit.

Havign been here for about 10 years I recall many threads asking what is better for me questions, where what is better depends on what the person asking the question wants to do.

And who cares how many lenses the maker makes, even with the number of current Pentax lenses available I could not buy them all. In fact, my only recent lens is the 18-55 that I got with my K100DS. ALL my other lenses are quite old, mostly the M42 Takumars. The range available overwhelms my capacity to buy.

How do people get that shape without noticing and doing something about it before the shape becomes so extreme?

Maybe they need doctors like in the NHS:
You cannot have that surgery until you lose weight.
You cannot have that surgery until you stop smoking.

That's what happens when health funding is based on making cost benefit analysis.
