How best to use a HD Pentax-DA 21mm F3.2 Limited

With the K-70, like other models where the AE-L button has variously assigned functions, it may not be set up for its labelled function, so it did not lock in your spot-metered exposure. That is what I see in your first photo.

Your other photos using matrix metering look as expected in terms of balance between light and dark areas, but they do seem a bit underexposed to me, especially the ballpark scene. Almost to the degree similar to my old K200D.

The only way to tell if this is a lens issue is to take the same scene, same framing, with no change in lighting with the DA 21mm and another lens set to the same aperture and shutter speed.

I've had this lens for some years, used first with my K-5 which does also tend to underexpose very slightly, but more accurate than the K200D, and have gotten great images with it, even without careful metering under normal conditions.

Actually, in looking again at your first picture- I wasn't there to see the lighting conditions in reality, but my guess is by spot metering off her face, which was very much in shadow, if it went the way it should, it would greatly overexpose the rest of the scene. Her face is a comparative extreme in the overall lighting. All you want to do is open up her facial shadows to a degree, so her face is more visible. If using spot metering, it would be best to meter off a mid-tone in the scene, like off of a lighter area of the building on the right, or even off of the better-lit gray pavement of the street below, lock exposure, or use the green button to do your spot metering in "M" mode and see how that turns out. The other way is to simply use a pop of fill flash with the camera in "M" mode and metering for the entire scene first, using the green button then popping up the flash, since the flash would not affect the more distant part of the scene. You can also modify flash output by using the flash comp control, according to the effect desired, and the ambient lighting of the scene compared to your subject.

I find it desirable as a general rule to use flash when subjects are close even in an evenly well-lit outdoor scene anyway, as this will put a catchlight in the eyes, and more evenly reduce harsh facial shadows from downward or sideways lighting. Especially also when subjects are wearing hats or caps, which can easily darken the face.

40 years of cameras

By their launch date, in near 10 year increments:

KM - 1975
Super Program - 1983
PZ-1p - 1994
K10D - 2006
K3II - 2015

Two things that occurred to me: 1) I have too many cameras (doh); 2) it's interesting to think how many things changed between any of these two cameras, and yet the same FA 35 lens will work as intended on any of them.

Macro lens on APSC and FF

Its easier for me to think of 1:1 by visualizing putting the thing i am photographing on the sensor. If i took a coin and pressed it on the sensor that is what the sensor would process. Its actual size. Since the ff sensor is bigger the coin won't take up as much of the sensor as on apsc.

As stated before by stevebrot, this so-called Ihagee Elbaflex is indeed a revamped Kiev 19M camera (designed and manufactured from 1988 onwards at the Arsenal factory, Kiev, Ukraine, then part of the Soviet Union) without its light meter and with a wooden grip replacing the original plastic one.

This is admitted by the Ihagee people themselves, see the Comments section of the Kickstarter project:

So, yes: the design is based on the Kiev 19M but you are getting a brand new camera with a guarantee.

The people behind the Ihagee Elbaflex project are the German, listed, Koblenz-headquartered net SE group.

net SE are also behind the resurrection of Meyer-Optik Gφrlitz (several lenses), Oprema Jena (two Biotar lenses), Emil Busch A.-G. Rathenau (Glaukar Anastigmat lens) and C.P. Goerz (Citograph 35, a 35mm f/8 fixed-focal lens).

Most trademarks belong to their subsidiary SEMI Verwaltung GmbH, also headquartered in Koblenz: C.P. Goerz, Ihagee, Meyer Optik, Biotar, Lydith, Makroplasmat, Nocturnus, Oreston, Primagon, Telemegor and probably more.

Some trademarks belong to net SE directly: Emil Busch A.-G. Rathenau, Glaukar and Anastigmat.

---------- Post added 11-21-2017 at 07:57 PM ----------

Do you want to laugh a bit? I would presume so.

This is one of the pictures from the press kit:

Dropbox - Ihagee Press Kit

https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/50da312e462ba9d4fbd86944c314446636ebc0a...2d31aad825.jpg

Not only are the 'Ihagee' and 'Elbaflex' logos obviously photoshopped...

...but they forgot to photoshop the '19M' (from Kiev 19M) out of the reflection!!!

Thank you so much. I will probably purchase one today.

---------- Post added 06-16-17 at 10:56 AM ----------

I just looked at the product price. You are right, that is really a good deal. I am not sure on exactly how to remove the old one and replace it with the new one yet. If you possibly know a link to instructions on the procedure I would be interested. I wonder if it comes with instructions or if there is a video I could watch or something. I'm curious as to if I would have to remove the four screws on the bottom of the flash to do it.

Thanks so much.

---------- Post added 06-16-17 at 11:34 AM ----------

I went ahead and ordered the part listed below from USCamera. I saw a video about a shoe foot replacement and have the basic idea of how to do it.

Genuine Pentax replacement flash shoe foot for the AF360 FGZ flash unit.

Only $12.16

White camera is a silver Q7.

I had thought that by Nov, the cooler winds from Asia would come down towards a warmer Oz.
Unfortunately, not so. :D
Headwinds from the SouthWest for the whole day for day 1 and 2. :D :D
Slowed me down by 3-5kph at the least.

I had a wonderful time in Perth.

There's the "One year on with the K1" thread (I thought it was like 8-9mths?), and that made me do up this post to give some further impressions of the camera 8-9mths into its use.
What better way than in real world usage as opposed to theoretical arguments.

Mandurah; K1+FA35/2

I just did a cycle tour for a week and despite the "MILC is smaller, lighter" arguments, I brought along my K1.
M20/4, FA35/2, FA77ltd - its offerings such as these that make Pentax more special to me.
Very portable despite the bigger size/ weight of the K1.
I wanted a camera that I knew would "cut the cake".
The astrotracer, the sensor shift capability, the fantastic IQ and 36mp that will allow me to crop.
Trying to go light on the bike, does mean my prime selection is tight and cropping (while retaining great IQ) does allow me a bit more flexibility.

How to move your large lightroom library to another drive or NAS

This is one of the reasons I decided to just use Bridge and Photoshop instead of Lightroom. I like the simplicity of knowing exactly where/how my photo files are stored. When I upgrade computers, hard drives, etc. I didn't want to have to deal with the headache of figuring out how to move a database.

Last time I mentioned this on here I was told that my fears were unfounded and it wasn't a big deal moving Lightroom, but this post would indicate otherwise...
