Obviously quite a bit of processing done to try to find a way to make a bland shot interesting. Can't remember what I used.

Love the sharpness and contrast you got. Tripod? Exif is missing...what focal length did you shoot this at? I'm wondering if it would be preferable for me to leave my collection of prime lenses (15, 21, 40, 70) at home and just travel with one lens like this.

Thanks....what does a nice house on a nice property sell for in Perth these days? I'm guessing at quite a discount to the one pictures above.

Thanks, I appreciate that. You're actually the first person to ever say something about my photostream. I have neglected it for a while, but I think I will add more of my recent stuff.

Flickr linking problem

I know there must be an obvious solution to get my photos from Flickr onto posts here, I tried searching, but no luck. I am switching my photo hosting to Flickr and I cannot figure out how to properly link/insert a photo from Flickr. I use the "Insert Image button and paste the entire BBCode as it appears in Flickr share box. But all I get is a small blank box. If I preview that, I see my photo title, my name (both live linked), but no imaage. If I post that I get "/img" text but no image. I managed to get a photo posted by editing the BBCode to only the URL ending in .jpg, but it does not link back to Flickr, nor is it expandable.

This abandoned graveyard features rusted iron railings around many of the graves. This is a plain railing, but I liked its tilt yoward the distant cement plant.

Be careful about using DCU5

Because I intend to process some pixel shift photos from my new K-70, I decided to download the SilkyPix-based Pentax Digital Camera Utility 5 using the CD that came with the camera. I also upgraded to the latest version via the website (5.6.2). I had used an earlier version with K-X so was familiar with the crummy interface and limited toolset of the software, which has not improved over the intervening versions. However, when I was in the Browse module, I clicked on the star for rating a photo, both on the filmstrip thumbnail and another time from the menu. A message came up that star rating was not applied; within a few moments, the images I had applied a rating to disappeared, both from filmstrip and from the Laboratory modules. Mousing over the empty film strip boxes, the popup with file metadata info still appeared, and the files were indeed still in their proper folders on my hard drive. I tried un-starring the affected photos, but no change.

I then tried to access these photos (all DNG raw) through my other PP software, On1 Photo Raw and Lightroom. In the Browse module in On1, there were only black boxes where the photos should be; message said photos are unreadable. In Lightroom, once I re-synchronized the folder, it showed black exclamation marks in the thumbnails, saying photos are unreadable. However, I can open and edit the DNG files with FastTone program.

I googled, but found no mentions of this behavior. Be warned. Luckily, the three files were not ones I cared about.

Incidentally, I have been comparing RAW outputs from each of the three programs listed above. I tried default behavior on each, with no slider changes, and I tried each adjusting sliders to look most natural. Default DCU5 is slightly less saturated than the other two (maybe because I use 'Natural' setting in camera with saturation bumped one notch?), and default sharpening is not quite up to the other two. Otherwise, not much difference. The adjusted Raws (using identical manual white balancing) look a bit better in both LR and On1, probably because of those programs greater flexibility in handling shadows, contrast, gradients and vignettes. In short, I will not be using DCU5 unless absolutely necessary, e.g. with pixel shift photos.

This was shot through the front window of the restaurant in Jerome, Arizona. I had to remove some reflections in Photoshop. Also, used a cartoon filter in Topaz Adjust to bring out the crazy colors.

At the beginning of the 20th c., Jerome was the third largest town in AZ, thanks to a rich copper deposit. After the copper was gone, most residents left. Today, it's not really a ghost town--Main Street has a bunch of viable tourist businesses-- but there is a lot of old and abandoned stuff to see from the bygone era. Nice day trip if in Northern AZ.
