I also swore off JVC products after a miserable response from customer service on a warranty repair of a DVD/VCR unit. I would NOT buy a camera from them.

Does the K-7 perform any better (in continuous or video mode) with 30 mb/s than with 20 mb/s SDHC cards(e.g. Extreme Sandisk III vs II) ? Or is the SD-X II as fast as the processor can use to any advantage ? There is a big cost bump from class 6 to class 10 so I want to know if there is any practical gain ? Thanks...

I have a ZX-5n that works fine in center-weighted and spot metering mode, but reads 6-7 f/stops high (overexposed) in multi-segmented metering mode. Is this likely to be a bad circuit board, or could it be the switch ? Is the metering control board separate or part of the mother board ? I'm wondering if I might scavenge a replacement part from a ZX-5, ZX-10, or other ZX / MZ series body ? Thanks for any tips...

Are you sure the Rokinon D980AFZ-P is P-TTL ? The Overstock ad just says TTL, and I read somewhere else it does not do P-TTL exposure.

I'm thinking of getting a Bower SFD926P (power zoom), or the Sigma 530 or 530 Super are also candidates (but cost $150 and $219), to use with my K10D, but would like to get opinions from a few folks who have used them. I'm a little leery of the power zoom aspect as I've heard of problems with sticking, or motor failure on other units (even the AF540FGZ). My main goal is a P-TTL capable unit with accurate exposure (including in bounce mode), bounce/swivel action, reliable build, and good power (and price under $150). Any comments or other flash model recommendations are appreciated...
Alan
P.S. I was looking at the Rokinon D980AFZ-P (power zoom) or D900AFZ-P (manual zoom) flash, but those appear to be TTL only...

Matt - thanks for your effort, very useful blog ! Do you plan to include the Rokinon or Bower models of the Tumax units ?

But...that kinda blows the whole purpose of having a P-TTL auto-exposure flash, so then you may as well set it manually by the guide number, if you have to get the right exposure by trial and error with EV compensation ! Also makes "candid" shots a lost cause.
I have a couple of old auto flashes (Pentax AF200T and AF330FTZ, and Vivitar auto thyristor 3700) that I could try out, but am a bit leery of the trigger voltage issues... I don't want to fry my K10D ! So, has anyone tried any of those flashes, either in auto or manual mode, and are they safe ?
Thanks to all responders !
Alan

Could Pentax DSLR users who have worked with the flashes listed below comment on their utility and any weaknesses as compared to the Pentax AF360FGZ and AF540FGZ ? Specifically: exposure accuracy in direct and bounce modes; P-TTL compatibility; autofocus assist; power zoom function & noise; battery life; fill flash options (1/2, 1/4, 1/8, etc). I read the Vivitar DF-383 review, and wonder if the other flashes have their own problems, like the bounce underexposure and zoom lock-up in bounce mode.
Thanks, Alan
Rokinon D980AFZ-P (or the non-power zoom D900AFZ-P)
Bower SFD926
Sigma EF-530 DG (or the Super version)
any other choices in the $75 - $150 range ?

I FINALLY found an accessory program to get image file metadata lists (including shutter count) that works with Exiftool for Mac (OS-X) without any command-line nonsense (a link to PhotoME for Windows is also found there). Do this:
1) download Exiftool for Mac from this site: ExifTool by Phil Harvey
2) double click on it to install. 3) Scroll down on the same web page, under Related Utilities for Mac OS-X and click on: "Download three droplets to extract information [exiftool must be installed] (thanks to Rob Lewis)", then 4) double click on the archive to decompress it. Move the "List Exif Metadata" folder into the Applications folder (optional). 5) There are three "droplet" apps, and you can drag a JPEG image file taken with your Pentax digital camera onto the "List Exif Metadata (edit)" droplet and it will give you the shutter count along with a huge list of other data. The other two droplets also gave lots of data, but not the shutter count, for some odd reason.
