Really hoping they follow the industry trend and release a full frame mirrorless and bring some new life to the company.

Pentax K1 w/ manual lens won't trigger off camera flash

So my passthrough adapter arrived, seems to work like I expected, I am able to pass through the fire through the middle pin only and my trigger files normally with a manual lens attached.

It should be noted, with this adapter attached, you lose the ability to use HSS and TTL with all lenses, but you gain the ability to use manual lenses where you previously could not with the Flashpoint/Godox XPro-P trigger. You're limited to 1/200th of a second... seems like a decent compromise in my book to have control over the Godox lineup, so it behaves same as any non-brand specific trigger like a pocket-wizard. Just swap it on/off when using manual lenses... a lot easier to deal with than tape.

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and ordered the adapter (in my op). $8.99 shipped is a small price to pay to get all the benefits of the godox system with my manual lenses. From the looks of it, it should limit my xpro-p to the center pin only without messing with tape.

I don't think I'll need a sync cable (hopefully not) but we'll see... they're cheap [emoji2369].

Good news! as suggested... I tried using a few pieces of tape to block all but the center pin on the camera body, and in manual mode on Xpro-p i was able to get it to produce a flash for my Helios 44K-4!

So now the question is, what would be the easiest work around for this? I'm thinking about picking up this as mentioned in my original post. Something i could just swap on when I am using a manual lens. Or I wonder if a flash sync cable would do the trick? not sure.

I tried using the XPro-P with all my flashes set to manual power (no TTL) and still nothing would fire when I had a fully manual lens attached. I did find this developer response on the cactus forum from someone having the same issue.

He wrote:

Which is consistent with my experience with my V2 triggers, I'm just trying to figure out if theres a way around it without buying manual flash triggers (like a pocket wizard, which im pretty confident would work since manual mounted flashes work).

This problem seems to be exclusive to lenses that do not communicate thier aperture to the camera (ie, full manual). I haven't had any problems with 'A' lenses with manual focus (or similar, like my adaptall with aperture control). Stick a manual lens on there and see if your cactus triggers will fire an off camera flash, If its anything like my experience, it won't... which is annoying. Because I love my manual lenses.

Latest gear:

Switched over from Cactus to the Godox system, got tired of switching firmware for TTL and HSS and the triggers occasionally stopping firing, extra batteries required and the extra gear to carry around and fiddle with. Godox just seems much more integrated.

Flashpoint XPro-P
Flashpoint AD200
Godox TT600 (x2)

Along with a couple extra Amazon basics stands and a Softbox (included with the AD200)

I've actually got Cactus V2 triggers as well, are you able to get them to fire using a full manual lens? If so, what firmware do you use?

I figured that, but with the XPro-P flash trigger, when I have the off camera flashes set to manual, they still won't fire. Maybe the camera "thinks" the attached trigger is a TTL flash, therefor it doesn't send a fire signal? Trying to find a way around that so the trigger will still fire the manual flashes i have synced up to the trigger.

Just wondering if anyone has solved this before spending money on things that may or may not work.

So im having an issue with fully manual lenses and off camera flashes/triggers.

I recently switched over to the godox system of flashes. Here's what I have:

Flashpoint xpro-p trigger
Flashpoint ad200
2x godox TT600 (these are manual flashes when mounted on camera)
1x Pentax AF360FGZ II Flash (I use this for running and gunning with HSS/TTL on camera)

lenses tested:
Helios 44k-4 (full manual)
Tamron Adaptall 28mm f/2.5 (auto aperture, manual focus)
Pentax D-FA 24-70 f/2.8 (auto everything)

It seems as if the manual lens i attach doesnt have auto aperture, I cannot get it to fire with the Xpro-p attached. I experienced this with the cactus triggers as well.

With the manual lens attached here are my results:
Xpro-p trigger (attached): will not fire in any mode except for a TTL preflash from the AD200 when set to TTL.
AF360FGZ (attached): Fires normally in P-TTL and Manual.
TT600 (attached): Fires normally in manual (does not have TTL).

Interestingly, i was at a workshop this weekend and I attached a Godox X1T made for Nikon to camera and it was able to trigger flashes with a manual lens. I'm guessing this was because the pins didnt line up outside of the center one, and the camera behaved as if it was a manual flash.

I'm not expecting TTL to work, but i'd like a way to trigger flashes that ive set the power for using this trigger if possible. Does anyone know of any cheap solutions?

I've heard of a trick where you short out one of the pins on the lens mount, but if possible i don't want to have to fiddle with that every time i switch lenses. My goal is to use some manual lenses in the studio.

I was thinking of trying a PC sync cable to my xpro-p trigger and removing it off my hotshoe, but i dont have a cable handy. Another thing that i'd like to try is attached some kind of adapter on the hotshoe that will only pass through the center pin and ignore the others. Perhaps something like this between my Xpro-p trigger and camera?

Please let me know if you've dealt with this before.

Thanks

Phottix, Godox/Flashpoint and now Elinchrom.

All jumping in the game pretty late, I wonder if these 3rd party manufacturers know something we don't about upcoming Pentax products...

Christine, my first realish shoot, It was pretty significant for me as it would be the first real time I put my study to practice.

This particular shot wasn't even planned, she was just having a blast at the conservatory we were at that morning. There are more model-y pictures from the set in my Flickr, but I like the emotion in this one a lot as it reflects her personality well.

REALLY old topic but I took a gamble and picked up the Sto-Fen Omni Bounce OM-600, Its not mentioned on B&H, Adorama or on Amazon, but I can confirm it does work on the AF360FGZ II, this is mentioned on Stofen's site, just don't know why dealers don't mention it on their product page.

Cactus V6II - Multi brand HSS?

Just an update, got my third cactus unit today... HSS success!

Can confirm these Cactus V6II's will allow for high speed sync between different brands, here's what I did.

1. Flashed the HSS firmware on all 3.
2. Attached one V6II to the Yongnuo 600EXRT II, set the flash profile to Canon and set the flash to E-TTL. RX mode.
3. Attached one V6II to the Pentax AF360FGZ II, set the flash profile to Pentax and set the flash to P-TTL. RX mode.
4. Attached the last unit to my K-1, set the camera profile to Pentax. TX mode.

I am able to achieve high-speed sync, change the power on each flash remotely on the shoe-mounted V6, and control each unit individually (if you put them in separate groups).

Overall, really happy! TTL mode won't work when mixing as far I can tell, I'd need to flash that firmware on the V6II's to do that as well.

Just thought i'd update you guys, incase anyone was wondering about this. Adorama has several used V6II units available for $69 if you wanna snag one.

You could also pick up a Cactus Flash and probably get TTL working as well without another V6II. However, I had an extra 600exrt II so i went this direction.

Looks like they're calling the upgraded AF system "Advanced SAFOX 12", so if there's any question of a change in the AF.. there's your answer.

Two things I'm interested in:

1. How much will the AF and low light performance improve?

2. Will they upgrade K-1 Silver Editions? Being one of only a handful of people with a K-1 Mk. II Silver Edition sounds kind of cool.
