Kr, manual lens and radio trigger flash - help!

Maybe start over from a clean slate:

Set:

ISO 100
F4
1/125
Flash at 1/2 power

Take a shot, and then adjust aperture and/or flash power to fine-tune the exposure.

image rotation in K-5

This is actually my biggest gripe about the K-5 vs the K-7...

The functionality of the K-7 was much more intuitive to me when reviewing pictures after the fact, expecially if many of them had been taken in portrait mode. Here's my vote for making the 'old method' an option in a future firmware.

Pre Trigger Cable for k5

The Canon cable should work if it is mini-phono. The PW might even ship with a cable that will work. Otherwise these guys will have a cable that goes from the receiver to the camera:

K5 and lens data in EXIF

It is VERY common for post-processing programs to strip away part or all of the EXIF data. Have you changed your workflow since you used your K10D?

Anywho, the camera will record the lens data in the EXIF if it can figure it out. But all software/websites/etc will read and render this data differently.

Prolly nothing at all to do with your camera body.

K7 flash sync speed.

K-7 won't close the sync contacts at shutter speeds above 1/180 regardless of whether it thinks there is a flash there or not... Keep in mind that the cheapie triggers may not sync reliably at 1/180 anyway, so 1/160 is probably all you'll get, which should be OK anywho.

FF for weddings?

I think any of the last generation bodies has plenty of image quality for a wedding shoot (asbestos underwear on)... Most of the last generation bodies would be fine as well.

Where the big two (especially Nikon) really blow away the rest is flash system performance and support. The Nikon flash system is so absurdly better than the competition that I wouldn't consider anything else if I expected to be a 'flash-heavy' wedding photog. As in, lighting halls with SB900s on stands in the corners and one on the body for bounce/fill. Not everybody shoots weddings like that, and that's OK, but CLS really gives an advantage to that style of wedding shooter.

And with Nikon and Canon you get a real support organization. I don't know how deep you are into wedding photography, but if you get to where you are booking two, three, or four shoots in a weekend, your gear can't go down for any reason. And if it does, you need to be able to get replacement gear and/or service. And if you need long, fast glass for a particular shoot (long church sanctuary perhaps, with no flash allowed) you can probably rent a Nikon/Canon 300 f2.8 locally. Not so much with other systems.

It just seems to me that these items are more important than DOF, high-iso performance, etc. My $0.02

Flash compatibility

...make sure your shutter speed is less than 1/180. The K-7 won't fire an external, non-dedicated flash at any speed above that.

That lens, as with most modern zooms, is varifocal. Zooming it changes the focus distance.

K-m max shutter spees with flash???

If your pics are all white at F2 and 1/180, they will still be all white at F2 and any other faster shutter speed. The flash dumps all of its power in less than a thousandth of a second. Long story short: shutter speed will have NO effect on the flash exposure.

Vivitar 75-205mm f3.8 1 touch zoom lens Aperture blades cleaning

I started from the mount end of the lens.

The hardest part of reassembly was the little arm that interfaces with the aperture ring. It is the part that actually controls the aperture. Very fiddly, and down in a hole...

I am a clumsy twit but managed to fix mine, so go ahead and dig in. My lens is actually sitting here in front of me, and still takes photos now and then. These are very nicely made, but are overshadowed by the Series 1 lenses of the same era.

I like the D80/D90 bodies. Just about right for my hands but a little large for how I like to shoot.

Handled a D700 and D3 the other day. Didn't like either.

Handled a Sony A850. Felt like an alien thing. I didn't care for the ergos at all.

Many moons ago I carried around an E-1 with the grip for an afternoon and took a few shots. I really liked how that body handled.

But My K-7 has ended up being an almost ideal compromise. Big enough, not too big, good ergos. I can hardly shoot with my K10D anymore because everything is in the wrong place...

I did this on one back in the 80s. Just don't lose little parts, take your time, and use screwdrivers that fit. Don't touch anything inside the lens that you don't need to touch.

I think I cleaned mine with a fancy, low-lint q-tip designed for cleaning cassette heads (it WAS in the 80s) dipped in everclear.
