GerryL, thanks for your quick response. I understand that the k-x doesn't have weather-sealing, but what do you mean, "2nd dial, debug-mode, pentaprism" could you explain those a little further?

Hello, the aperture lever on my k10d recently quit working correctly. When i took a picture, the aperture would stay open at f/1.4, no matter what settings i had the camera set at. I sent the camera in to Pentax (C.R.I.S. camera service in Arizona).
They gave me an estimate of $270.
I can practically buy another k10d for that price. What should I do? Buy a k-x? buy a k-7? I have a pretty tight budget. Would there be features in the k10d that aren't in the k-x?
MANY thanks for those who help me!

I'm looking for Preferrably:
Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 Possibly:
Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 Macro, Pentax 16-45mm f/4, Sigma 17-70mm f/2.8-4, or Pentax 17-70mm f/4.
Anybody have that Tammy or similar? I'm just looking for a standard walkaround zoom. Also, I would consider a Sigma 15-30mm.

I'll put my good word in for the ATH-04. I have it and it's very strong. I can spring my weight of 180 pounds on it and it won't budge.

The one that used to be on there for $100k had a review, too! I don't know whether it was legit or not, though...

I own a Sigma ef-500 super, which is pretty much the same thing as the ef-530. It's very plasticy, but it works great. It also has an impressive slave, in my opinion. I don't have experience with the metz. I think the metz is usb-compatible, so you can update firmware. If price isn't an issue, I'd go with the metz. Have fun!

Very complicated, thorough answer. Thanks, everyone! :)
To Russell-Evans: Let's say my camera is in manual mode at 1/160, f/4. I have a FA 50/1.4 on there. When the flash is in P-TTL mode, will it adjust itself accordingly, so that the exposure is correct?

Okay, thanks everyone for your help! Now what I'm looking to know is this: Can I use my (AF, AE) lens in manual mode, and still use P-TTL? Will the flash adjust its power automatically if I'm in manual mode?
Thanks!

I use the cokin P system. I have a grad. hard ND, a grad soft ND, a grad soft blue, and a sunset filter. I never use the sunset filter. We have white balance now, so we don't need orange. DEFINITELY get the grad hard ND. I use it, whether it should be used or not, on more than half of my landscapes. Especially sunsets. Great filter. I believe it's the P121? Best of luck!
By the way, Big G, you have a great username! ;)

Hello!
I have a Takumar 300mm f/4 lens that I use a lot. I use it mainly on aperture priority. (or Program; they both have the same effect) I want to know if I can pop a Sigma ef-530 Super flash on there and use it in P-TTL mode.
I'm sort of a noobie as to how P-TTL works. In Program mode, does it change the aperture/shutter speed accordingly? Can you use it in manual mode, and still have the flash adjust itself according to the exposure settings?
I really appreciate your support!

Keep looking around at all the other categories. They carry all sorts of new products, as well as used products. I don't know how long they've been carrying new products, but I think it's been a while.

Please not the LumoPro. Those things are not made to last. I don't own one, but i highly highly doubt they will last very long at all. I have a Vivitar 285HV and I like it very much. Mine actually has a problem with the sync port, but i think it is a very uncommon problem. Otherwise i love it. For my strobism, i have that hooked up to a Quantum radio trigger. Then i have a Sunpak 433D latched onto a Wein hot shoe slave. (Then, when necessary, a Vivitar 4600 w/ built-in slave)
I only use these things manually. Never ever will I use them on auto. It just doesn't make any sense; it's not TTL. So my answer to you is yes, it is perfectly okay to mix and match flashes. I do all the time :)

i really like them. but i rarely use the sunset filter. the grad. hard gray is like my savior. it's all scratched up from so much use! ;)

Photo Strobe Trigger Voltages
I contacted Pentax once and they said that the *ist DL can handle up to 250V. I would assume it's the same for newer Pentax SLRs, but no guarantees from me. I would get a Wein Safe Sync, just to play it safe.

Eww! Who would want the olive k-m? I'm a fan of collector's items, but that's pretty ugly! Looks like it belongs in the military! :)
