Here are two from early this summer. Both taken by the 645Z with the 645 DFA 35mm handheld. The water fall picture required about a mile hike. To get the perspective I wanted required leaning over to my left as far as I could reach with the camera resting on a post of the viewing platform railing. Please forgive me for not presenting a "smooth" water fall shot!

What are the two 645 fitting lenses you can't live without?

I'm using the 645 DFA 35. It is very good (I don't have the 67 33-55). I had the 645 A 35 which produced nearly the same quality, however since I use the 645Z hand held for all sorts of situations, people shots, traveling, taking pictures out the window of a tour bus, etc., I find the autofocus indispensable. In my case, I'd like to have the 67 33-55, however it costs $500 minimum which is not a priority right now.

I've found these comparisons of the 67 series lens to the 645's interesting. I own several 67 lens to use with my 67 film camera and also with the Z. Personally, I've found that the 645 35 DFA, the 45-80 and the 80-160 are giving slightly superior results with less color fringing. This is in comparison with the 67 55-100, the 45, the 200 lens. My 645 80-160 is giving very good resolution at 160mm. The 67 105 is the equal of my 80-160 at 100 mm, or slightly better. My 645 200 is superior to the 67 200. These comparisons are at f10 using the scene from my front porch. Here I can compare tree leaves, branches, houses and power line insulators with sharp edges at varying distances up to 600 yds. These tests have been using the Z camera. However, the 67 lens give a different rendering which is useful.

I should do more head to head testing on the same day conditions as most of my evaluations have different lighting situations. Why carry several 67 primes with adapters when the two zooms listed above are so very good? One reason would be if a different aperture was needed.

My go-to bag for the Z has the 35 dfa, the 80-160, sometimes the 55 dfa and when longer reach is needed, the 67 300 ed-if in its case. For the 67 film camera the 55-100 is most used. I do enjoy collecting the 67 lens and testing them, however they are mostly sitting on the shelf.

Since I have the 67 300 M* and tested it quite a while ago I thought it would be good to add to this thread. I've been testing the various lens taking pictures down the street from my front porch. The first picture is the full frame shot while the 2nd is a crop of the same shot, picture taken at f11. As you can see the power pole is in focus, being 150 yards down the street.

Back in the day when I was still using my Canon 5D it got soaked and quit working. I opened it up, and, after drying it still worked until moving on to the 645Z, and I was able to sell the camera on Ebay for a decent price!

I emailed Eric several days ago, but haven't received a response. Is he still repairing cameras? I'm not comfortable just sending the camera without knowing he is still in business.

I just received the 67 55-100 f4.5 lens today and have tested it. It is a "keeper".

Thanks, I found that after mounting the assembly on the camera that I could adjust the orientation by loosing the ring a bit and rotating everything to the needed position and then tightening.

Desertscape, I discovered your facebook page with all those wonderful landscapes that you've posted. This summer I've determined to use the 67 body I bought a couple of years ago and have ordered film. I'd appreciate some tips concerning your setup process once on location. I do have a sturdy tripod with a Manfrotto gear head.

Thanks,
Phil

I'm testing the 67 400mm Takumar recently purchased on Ebay. It is in excellent condition and is performing in line with the reviews found on this site. However, I've encountered a problem when mounting the 1.4x converter. With the 1.4 mounted the camera is tilted 45 degrees when mounted on the tripod. I haven't found a way to mount the converter that gives the proper horizontal orientation. I'm using the grey converter.

Is this the correct converter for this lens? Or, what am I doing wrong?

The lens produces the sharpest images at f11 but sharpness falls off in the corners. With the converter mounted that shifts to f16 for some reason. I find that the 1.4 converter on the 67 300 EDIF produces a better overall image than the 400 Takumar without the extender.

I live west of Olympia WA. Thanks for the responses! It looks like a CLA will take care of the sticky mirror issue. Sending it off for a estimate is the best approach other than replacement. I do like the compact size of the MX.

I'm guessing that a repair/clean and lube will cost more than the camera is worth.

Any recommendations on who to send the camera to for inspection and repair estimate?

A little research on the internet indicates that the mx suffers from sticky mirror syndrome. Is this something that can be fixed with a normal maintenance cleaning?

Who can the camera be sent to for cleaning?

I have no idea whether this would be a simple fix or otherwise. I would not attempt to fix it myself. I'm not aware of any service that could fix this old camera. Buying these old cameras is really hit or miss.

About 2 years ago I bought a mx on Ebay. Shortly after getting it the light meter quit working. Today I took it out for the first time since to try it out with a roll of film. The after a few shots the mirror quit flipping up. The shutter is still working fine.

Any suggestions on how to fix this problem? I've never attempted to work on a camera.

Hi, I'm getting back into film photography along with digital. In viewing the pictures posted here, many are displaying excellent detail. What are you using to scan the pictures? I'd like to hear from you. My old epson 4870 pro just isn't producing satisfactory results. I'm primarally using a Pentax 67 with a variety of lens.

Thanks, Phil

Frustrations with Latest Version of Lightroom

I've been using Lightroom for several years, sort of limping along with it. But the latest version (not the classic version) is baffling.

The only way to start a new batch is to add photos. However, it is adding them to all photos. So if I have a shoot and want to process them I'm getting them added to the last batch in the lower viewer.

So how do I get rid of the old, by deleting them? Then the message says they will be deleted if not accessed in the last 60 days. What am I missing here? Before the recent revisions the import of a new batch automatically removed the others from the tray.

Also, the option to auto process the photos on import is gone. Now I have to do it one at a time. Up to now I've been using LR to process a very large batch of photos. What gives?

Any insight to a how to make this more useable?

Thanks.

Well, after surfing around a bit, I found that it is necessary to create a new album. Then a clear screen is given to import a new batch of photos. Not sure why they insist on "dumbing down" their software.
