Wow! I was unaware of this fickle feature of the forums. 8.5 years of continued activity essentially gone after half a year of inactivity. Time flies when you're too busy to post on the forum.

Yeah, I did see that. It used to be site policy that after some level achievement you didn't have to make any more donations. I was Site Supporter for a while, then I was Pentaxian (I think), then I was Veteran Member. If you now have to donate regardless of your achievements, that's good to know. I don't have anything to sell right now, but after Flickr screwed me over, I don't have any online hosting for my photos, so I was going to attach one to a post. That's when I discovered that my quota had been drastically reduced.

I haven't logged on in a little while, and I found that I can no longer sell items and my attachment quota has been reduced to below the size of the number of photos I've already uploaded over the years. I can't find anything on the website, but it seems like things have changed around here since I've been away. Any pointers? Edit: It seems that all my likes have been removed as well. |

The mount on my Tamron 300 f/2.8 still isn't working right, but the lens is still very usable. It works sort of like a screwmount lens now. Wherever you set the aperture with the ring, that's what you see through the viewfinder. These are with the 1.4X teleconverter, aperture set to f/8. |

Thanks for the tips and suggestions. I appreciate it much. When I have a minute, I’ll go over the mount and the lens and make sure everything is working as it should. I’ll post back here afterwards.

Having two small children and working a lot, I rarely get the chance to get out and do photography for my own enjoyment. Yesterday was my birthday, so my wife let me take a few hours to drive down to Bombay Hook NWR. Sadly, when I got there, I found that my Tamron 300 f/2.8, which I normally use with the 1.4x teleconverter, wasn't working properly. The f-stop showed on the camera, but looking through the viewfinder was extremely dark. The aperture wasn't staying open as it should. This made it nearly impossible to focus properly. I fiddled with it a bit, taking off the mount and the teleconverter and putting them back on without success. Then the aperture stopped showing up at all on the camera. The lens functioned like there was no aperture coupling at all. Again, difficult for focusing. I tried without the teleconverter as well, of course. I tried cleaning the mount contacts. No luck. I'm hoping that it's a problem with the mount, not the lens. Anyone have any insight?

I've had one inquiry, of the "Is this still available" variety. If it's not marked as sold, or payment pending, it's still available.
I was able to get this lens on my K-01 into a concert venue last night (legitimately—I asked at the door if the camera was too fancy to bring in, and they said it was fine!). Haven't had a chance to process the photos, but I will post some when I do.

Good to know. I wonder if I have a local Sigma dealer… ---------- Post added 09-26-18 at 11:08 PM ---------- There's a lot of interest in this lens. I have a few takers lined up. Waiting on a decision from the first person in line. I will update you tomorrow.

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
SMC Pentax-M 50 f/1.4 Asking Price
50.00 USD Item Location
Newark, Delaware (United States) Item Description
I bought this when I had sold all my autofocus 50s and I still wanted a fast 50. It's an old lens, and the body shows it, but it's structurally sound and the focus and aperture work well. There's nothing wrong with the glass—no scratches or fungus. There is dust in the lens, and one rather large piece of dust in particular. I couldn't get it to show up in a photo. It doesn't seem to have any effect on photos, of course. Selling because I have an FA 50 f/1.4, so I almost never use M lens anymore. More photos

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
Sigma 150-500mm 1:5-6.3 DG OS HSM Asking Price
275.00 USD Item Location
Newark, Delaware (United States) Item Description
I bought this lens to possibly replace my Tamron 300 f/2.8. It seemed to work fine, but weather was bad and I didn't have a chance to test it outside for a while. Too long for returns. The OS works great—it's a significant improvement when shooting with a long lens to be able to see the image stabilized through the viewfinder. But there's something wrong with the autofocus. If focus is close, you can get a subject in focus in one or two attempts. However, the autofocus advances in one tiny burst per AF button press, at least on my K-5. If focus is far off, it will not be able to find focus. Maybe it's not compatible with the K-5. Maybe it needs work. I don't know. The manual focus works well—the throw is long enough for precision.
The lens appears to be in good shape. Finish is not noticeably worn or scratched. Some brassing on the zoom lock switch. A few marks on the tripod mount. Comes with a skylight, ND2, and closeup filter. More photos

PentaxForums.com Marketplace Listing Item for Sale
SMC Pentax-DA 70mm F2.4 Limited Asking Price
240.00 USD Item Location
Newark, Delaware (United States) Item Description
Used 70mm Limited. Condition is fair to good by forum definitions. There is some minor finish wear, but that's it. No scratches on the glass. No fungus or haze. Very minor dust. The lens is great, but shortly after I bought it, I got a DA* 50-135 f/2.8, which gives me all the coverage I need at 70mm and similar aperture. I also have an 85 f/1.4.
Aside from the excellent IQ, what is most amazing about this lens is its size and weight. It's tiny, about the same size as my M 50 f/1.7, and noticeably shorter than my DA 50 f/1.8. If you want a small 70mm lens, this is the best out there, to my knowledge. More photos here.

Just an update: After removing the battery for a few days, I haven't had any problems, except for once: When the camera was on a tripod, I accidentally let the center pole down too quickly. When it hit the bottom, it took a picture. Since then, I've handled the camera as gingerly as possible. I need it to last until I can get a replacement. ---------- Post added 06-20-18 at 11:34 AM ----------
My K-5 doesn't have AF problems after an episode, but the aperture is always set to f/8 afterward.

Just snagged a Sigma 150-500 off of Ebay for a pretty good price. Fingers crossed that there's nothing wrong with it. I'm well-acquainted with the dangers of buying photographic equipment on Ebay. This means I'll likely be selling my Tamron 300 f/2.8. It's a good lens, but it's so heavy and the manual focus is tough.

Thanks. I don't think I've let the battery out for that long. I will try both of these.
That's interesting. I think I've had it happen with the battery partially drained, but my memory could be off. I'll try running the battery down a bit.
I hope to get a K-3 ii or KP after some photography money rolls in this summer. I have a K-01 that I use as backup.
