The same thing happened to me this past weekend on a shoot in NYC. I've never had an issue with my 540, but now it will flash maybe once, and then just sit there... I've tried many sets of batteries, and I get nothing. However, instead of the flash charging noise that you usually hear, I'm hearing a light click every few seconds....

K10D and 50mm 1.4 works... K7 and 50mm 1.4... does not work

I'm curious to see if anyone else has had this issue.

I started off with a K10D, and the first lens I purchased was the SMC Pentax-FA 50mm F1.4. I slapped it onto my K10D, and it was a great paring. Had a bunch of wonderful shots with it.. it was great.

However, a few months ago I upgraded to the K7... and once I put it onto the camera to try to duplicate the same results, I soon started noticing some issues with it. In general terms... its short focusing. I'll focus on something, the viewfinder says it is in focus, but once the picture is taken, and I zoom up on the focus point... it is blurry. I've tried the in camera lens adjustment for it, and going to both -10 and +10... it does not resolve the problem.

I was worried that maybe it was damaged, so I put it back onto the K10D, and sure enough, it produces crystal clear photos like it should.

Anyone have any ideas of how I might resolve this issue?

I'm very happy to hear that this was able to help someone else. I shot another wedding this weekend and I made sure not to take that disk with me. I just didn't want to take another chance. Even though PhotoRec worked as well as it did... thats just not something I want to chance again.

So this past weekend I was shooting a wedding here in Metro Detroit... and I experienced my first equipment failure during an actual event. I'm shooting primarily with a K-7, and while going through the normal schedule of a wedding... I had started to put my camera away for dinner when I went to go check the previous few shots for some details that I was eager to catch. I hit the review button and instead of the camera showing me the last shot I had just taken, it showed me a picture during the formal pictures at the church that I had taken hours ago.

I said to myself... "What the hell?" I hadn't scrolled to those pictures... that was a long time ago. And I noticed the image number. IMGP9999.

Okay.. I've eclipsed 10,000 photos before... where's the rollover?

I searched through the pictures. I could find nothing. I had started the morning around IMGP9600, and I know I had shot well over 600 photos... I should have been reaching near capacity for my WINTEC Professional 16 gig card... but for some reason, the camera wasn't showing it. The camera read that I still had around 200 photos worth of space on the memory card.

I scrolled out to the point where I could view the folders on the card. It only showed one folder. It was listed as today's date... and that is the standard practice that I've grown to know by using a Pentax camera. There it said that the current folder was 100_0430. Alright... thats correct. But where the hell are the other pictures?

I sat there and tried to think about what I was missing. This wasn't the normal behavior of my K-7... nor was this a problem I had ever experienced before. I know that I was seeing the previews of the photos as I snapped them, because my regular practice is to take the picture, do a quick glance at the photo and the info from it to see what I could improve on. I had seen all of the photos that had been taken, I knew that my camera had taken them.

So I tried to do a quick test. I took a quick picture of the ground... and it showed up on the screen. So I quickly hit the review button. There it showed the image number currently being IMGP0200. I scrolled out again to the folder view, and this time... there was a 2nd folder... 101_0430. However, the only picture that was in that folder was the quick picture of the ground. I kept on saying to myself... 'that just can't be'. I turned off my K-7... pulled out the memory card... checked for dirty contacts... anything. Nothing was wrong. I plugged the card back in and went back to the review. However, the 101_430 folder that was just there... was gone. No picture of the ground.. just the last image that the camera had picked up in the 100_430 folder.... IMGP9999.

This giant feeling of "Oh $hit" started to come over me. I immediately pulled out that memory card... and put it in the pocket of my camera bag, and switched up to another card.

Fast forward to last night because it was the first time I had actually gotten in front of my computer to try to check the card for these files. I emptied the other cards and saved that SD card for last. Sure enough... I pop in the card and start browsing. It only sees 451 pictures, stopping at IMGP9999.

I've had to use file recovery programs before... but quickly searching here at the Pentaxforums, I checked for any programs that anyone else recommended. I ended up with 4 programs. Glary Recovery, Recuva, ZAR, and finally PhotoRec.

Sure enough.. Glary couldn't find anything... Recuva didn't... and ZAR was laughing at me. But... when I ran PhotoRec, I was a little confused with the DOS protocol that it used... and I ran it first on the free space that was found on my card. Sure enough, it found nothing. However... for some reason I said... lets try running it on the whole card. Sure enough, 10 minutes later, it popped up with recovering 600+ images on the card. I quickly looked through the pictures it recovered... and there they were, the missing 200 RAW files.

At the end of the recovery, PhotoRec also said that the memory card I was using ( - WINTEC FileMate 16GB Professional Class 10 Secure Digital SDHC Card) had a bad sector. Now.. with everything now being okay... I'm not sure what to think about the performance of the camera and card together. I'm partial to blame the memory card for now... but I'm surprised that the camera didn't tell me about some error that it might have detected when trying to record the images.

Has anyone else ever experienced such an issue? Or similar problems? Or is this a good time to provide warning about those SD Cards?

Pentax AF-360 FGZ Price

Hey there Apac!

I would be very weary about them. Checking reseller ratings they have many claims against them.. the BBB talks about bait and switch. I would not do that. In the realm of photography equipment and prices online... there is one rule to follow. If the price is just 'too good' to be true... it probably is. I always check Store Ratings & Reviews - - Find Trusted Stores on situations like that.

Oh, and a little bit more of advice... most of the shady stores are based from New York. Check around and do some more research.. and you'll most likely find that most of the stores are related to each other.

On the other hand... and a much more positive note. I've got a used 360-FGZ flash that I'd be willing to sell you... and I'm in the Metro Detroit area as well.

Welcome. Hope you're not glowing green. ;) But you will be happy with what you find with the camera. I did the same thing. I was all set about getting into the DSLR world, and instead of the XT (canon entry level at the time) and the Nikon D40, I went with Pentax for the features and price compared to the name brand and the hooplah.

Pentax has been very good to me. And as long as you stay out of that pro range, you should be good.

Hey everyone.. another faithful Raynox 250 fan here... However I've used it on my Canon Powershot S5 IS for the past few years... I just ordered up a 100-300 mm lens for my K7, so I'm eager to see what type of results I'm going to be able to get with it. Here's a few of my shots with my canon and the Raynox...

If you're not willing to print there.. and you're saying that no one buys prints online... and all you want to do is offer a CD full of the images they want... it sounds like you're limiting them to what you want to do.

I did a recent shoot just like that last year, I didn't print at the event, but I sold one CD to the owner of the company for $125 so that he could distribute the pictures accordingly. Most people don't want photos of other people during a holiday party unless Bill from accounting had too much egg nog, or if it has turned out to be an open bar event.

My only advice for you would be, if you're looking to generate sales person to person, you're going to need to do something such as print at the event. Or even... set up an gallery / slide show with a projector right then and there so they could see the shots that you are taking right there at that moment. That way you 'might' be able to get them enlisted to give them information for contact after the point for a sale after the event.

Hope this helps... maybe just a little!

You know what... I'm starting to believe this is the result of Picasa trying to 'remedy' a dark photo... even though I was shooting in bracketing... maybe I'm just seeint the actual noise for it being that underexposed...

K7 Heating problem / Noise like crazy

I've searched for noise issues, and I even posted up elsewhere about this issue. Someone suggested it was my K7 getting too warm... which... I've never ever heard to be an issue.

I recently came back from a trip to Hawaii, where I experienced some issues with my K-7. While shooting, I don't really stop and take a look at the review of the image... I just keep on plugging along. Once I brought the image back and uploaded it onto my computer, I noticed that ever 5th image has a horrible amount of ISO noise... Not just regular noise, but an abnormal amount that is making me wonder wtf...

I would be bracketing, and then 2 out of the 5 shots would have so much noise that they are un-useable.

I was thinking maybe a memory card issue, or just a bad transfer of data... but I'm completely baffled at this issue... and I'm rather upset because I've lost quite a few shots from Hawaii because of this.

Any idea?
