How 4K looks using 18-135?

Presumably you'll be using the K70 for the time lapse? If so, I think you'll find its video output is not 4k standard. Far from it in fact.

I'd use a card reader to check if the card can be read that way. Could help you decide whether it's the card that's the problem (try another one in the camera and see if it then works), or the camera itself.

K-5 to K-3 Upgrade / Focus or SR Issue?

Try a few shots using a tripod, mirror up. Also, a few more shots using LV. Post them back here.

The K3 is in my experience more demanding due to it's improved sensor vs. the K5.

It could be AF fine tuning is needed, or reviewing your technique, or, yes, a fault with the camera. You'll get good advice here.

Are the lenses Pentax?

If the trip to NZ is principally for photography, great, you'll come back with a lot of great shots I'm sure.

BUT, if it's not principally for photography you might want to consider buying a high-end bridge camera to avoid lens changes, weight, etc.

That's what I did, (accepting that the results might not have been up to Pentax IQ), had a great time and didn't have to think about 'which lens', etc.

Buy good used and you'll probably get most of your money back selling it on your return.

Specific lenses with K1 for trip to New Zealand

NZ is a great country with so much to see and shoot, so whilst I understand why you would want to take all/most of your DSLR kit when I went I bought a high-end, long-zoom bridge camera and took that instead of all my Pentax kit, and have absolutely no regrets.

Ok, the IQ wasn't as good, but I went there primarily to have fun with my family. What I took weighed much less, my wife was happy to use, I didn't have to think at all about which lens to use, etc.

Calibrating DA 55-300mm ED WR

The critical focus point of zooms invariably changes through its range, so when performing AF adjustment you might want to (a) concentrate on the focal length you use most/want to use, so in this case 300, or (b), check at long, middle and short focal lengths, then average the adjustment.

Dissassemble SMC Reflex 1000/11 mirror lens for cleaning

If surface mirrored, like slr/dslr mirrors, as I believe they are, my understanding is that they should not be touched physically as the surface mirroring is very easily scratched.

Can't help with the disassembling I'm afraid, but hope it goes well.

Steadify, a tripod/monopod substitute (on Kickstarter)

I was advised to try a stand up butt rest, as in butt of a fishing rod. You wear if around your waist, fit a monopod on the camera, and rest the end of the monopod in the butt rest. Simples!

Fixed LCD screen - how to view from above / below?

BUT...whilst having the tilting monitor is very useful, you still need to get reasonably close to view it, whereas a field monitor can be mounted at a more convenient height for viewing, especially if you use a tripod to mount it on whilst manoeuvring the camera hand-held for low angle shots of, say, plants.

Everyone to their own, though. :)

You can get a right angle viewer for the eyepiece as well, or a field monitor that plugs into the camera, which I much prefer for flexibility.

Manual Focus Lens Use Question

Can you provide a shot of the lens itself, showing the 'bubbly' material you mentioned? Could be there's a problem inside the lens you won't overcome with exposure adjustments no matter how hard you try.

I see you live in Hampshire.

The RHS run photography courses at RHS Wisley, (A3/M25 junction), and Kew run them at Kew and Wakehurst Place. They use professional garden photographers.

I've attended courses at all three locations and learnt a lot, (although you'd never believe it if you saw my efforts!). Could be worth a little research on your part?

Obviously location, cost, etc., need taking into account depending on your personal circumstances, but I'd urge you to give them some consideration.

Just fyi OP, you don't need to send the camera in for AF adjustment unless it's seriously out of wack. It's a user adjustment.

I find the OP's comments regarding the inferred poor build quality of the D FA WR version interesting, as a few reviews suggested it should have been a Ltd.

I agree. Great lens. That said, never tried the FA version.

If the OP was standing when he took the shot, as he appears to be, could the plane of focus actually be parallel all the way up from the models toes to the top of her head? I suspect the camera was tilted down, however slightly.

As suggested, take another shot with the camera on a tripod at right angles to a brick wall, etc.

I use one of these. Accessory Pack | OP/TECH USA Ok, it's a shoulder bag and not belt, but worth a look I suggest. The larger one takes all my Ltds plus 100 macro, x1.4 TC, plus a few other bits and pieces.

50-135mm sdm lens auto focus failure

My experience is the same as BFD.

I try to run my SDM lenses every two weeks, regardless of whether they've been used in the interim. I subscribe to two theories about SDM issues.

The first is simply they get 'sticky' if not used, so run them for a few minutes between near and far focus.

The second is that there are capacitors in the SDM units that lose their charge, and the units won't run until they're re-charged, so attach the lens, turning the camera, then leave alone for a few minutes.

I've found that sometimes when first mounted the lens won't run at all, but will after some minutes, but slowly. I keep working it, and after 5 minutes, good as new.
