You guys are killing me. I was all set not to upgrade and just be happy with my K-1, and save my money for my LBA. But after reading the comments above... I'm back to thinking about upgrading the body....

Repair K-3 Silver or buy a K-3ii? (or upgrade to K-1?)

I would gladly trade any silver bodied APS-c camera for a black K-1 Mark ii. I moved from the K-3 to the K-1. And it's night and day. The improvement in dynamic range alone is amazing. You'll wonder how you ever settled for less.

At $48 you can't go wrong. As long as no one abused the lens and damaged the optics, I think you got a good lens for a very very good price.

I have not used that particular lens. But you might look at the user reviews on it. They seem pretty positive.

Did that $5 bill come with the tripod, or was that an accessory you purchased afterwards?

Even if you'd gotten the D-FA 150-450, you're gonna want a pretty stout and high quality ball head and tripod combination. Your only talking about a difference of 2 lbs. between the two lenses (D-FA 150-450 is 5.1 lbs and the DA 560 is 7 lbs), both are tanks. I learned a long time ago not to trust good glass on cheap equipment.

You're going to need a bigger boat, ha!

And a sturdy tripod would be my recommendation. I use my D-FA 150-450 hand held (in TAV mode with the shutter speed typically between 1/3500 and 1/8000) but as soon as I put it on a tripod it's a completely different experience, with a lot better keeper rate. I have a Wimberley Sidekick that combines with my ball head to serve as a poor man's gimbal head. For the most part it works pretty well.

Battery problem or Charger Problem?

Life span is going to depend on usage. But I'm gonna guess battery wear over charger malfunction is the issue. My K-5 batteries are still holding up (knock on wood) but I have a couple of older batteries from my K20d days that don't seem to hold a consistent charge anymore either.

Yep. Had the same problem. Got the Pentax O-ICK1 and sensor is factory clean again. Scared the crap out of me yanking that thing off the sensor. But it worked. Watch the tutorials, and have a good stiff drink. Before and after, ha!

I'd say no. I have a perfectly good PZ-1 that gets very little use. And that was a pretty advanced camera, even when the digital revolution began.

I do shoot film from time to time but I typically use my K1000 or ME Super. For me, film is a fully manual experience.

I think for some, it's a bit bigger than they're comfortable with. Especially with the D-FA line of lenses. My wife wanted one until she used mine. She's changed her tune and has decided to stick with the APS-C sized camera. Works for her.

Ditto!

Also, an alternative is to buy a used K-3 for a lot less, and save for the K-1, K-1MK2 or K-3III (or whatever they're going to call it).

So glad Pentax isn't making a mirrorless now!

You, and a lot of other photographers, including myself. I have number of friends that are DSLR Nikon shooters (D810, D750, D7500) and none of them seem remotely interested in moving to a mirrorless system, no matter who's making it. I have one Canon friend (5d Mark IV) who did go over to the Sony Mirrorless system for a little while but returned to his mirrored roots. It was more comfortable to shoot with. I think there's a lot to be said about comfort and familiarity of equipment. For many, the shift to mirrorless isn't intuitive. At least it wasn't for my Canon friend.

DA 35mm Macro Ltd and Lee filters.

I think they're compatibility chart is screwed up. I use the Lee 100mm system with my lenses, included my M20mm F4 lens, that has a 49mm filter thread. I just purchased a few step down rings to allow the Lee system to work with the smaller filter size. WPRESTO turned me onto this site for adapter rings. AdapterRings.com - Offical Site. The world's largest seller of Camera Adapter Rings. They have a lot of size options. Also, you might check out FilterDude - Affordable Photography Accessories for less expensive pieces of kit. All Lee compatible.

On the smaller diameter lenses, using the ND filters is sort of a no brainer. Using the 100mm grad filters is a little trickier (doable but trickier). So I tend not to use the Lee grads very often on the smaller lenses.
