A K5 or any of its variants (K5, K5II, K5IIs) is a great camera still relevant today.
As for film, No, we never have enough film cameras. :)

Hello,
I started this in 2015 but it was until 2021 it was finished. Modified Hot Wheels Salt Shaker.
Scratch built canopy, rear wing with supports and parachute. Machined parachute tube. Paint is 1956 Chevrolet Nassau blue (one of the many colors with that name). Gotta have a Chevy connection somewhere :)

Hello,
In scale modeling we use "flocking" to simulate carpeting. It is a very fine powder and it comes in different colors.
This is a 1/25 scale interior tub:
But I wouldn't use this in a lens. Any flat black paint would do better as this will shed dust all the time.
*EDIT* I'd use acrylic flat black paint. Make sure it is not glossy. A sharpie is usually glossier (higher risk of reflections) but could work in a pinch.
Thanks,
|

I found more information: This abandoned DC4 was involved in a taxiing accident in 1992 when it hit a parked aircraft and caught fire. I thought it was longer than that.

Hello,
This abandoned aircraft has been there for years. This is near the airport so I think at the time it was probably still airport land.
Test pics from January 2021 of a refreshed Pentax MX, tested with a Kodak Gold 100 roll expired almost a decade ago.

And we have pictures! WOHOO!
Hello,
In mid January I loaded my last Kodak Gold 100 roll in my stash (expired almost a decade ago) in the MX and off I went...
Straight scans downloaded from Wayne's. No PP whatsoever other than resize and signature. Negatives are in transit and as usual I will try to scan my own to see if I can improve on these. But Dwayne's color scans are usually very good.
I'm happy!
Thanks,

Hello,
Keep in mind the battery cover is part of the circuit. They are conductive chrome even on black cameras. I wouldn't paint the base because the black in the rest of the camera is not paint. It is electroplating or anodizing with a very particular sheen to it. You will end up with either a too dull or too shiny finish. I know you don't care for the meter, but painting the bottom plate will probably cause problems with completing the battery circuit if you later decide to fix it. If you still decide to paint it, I'd use a satin or flat finish paint. Gloss/shiny will probably look out of place. I'd recommend using automotive products: sanding, etching primer, paint and clear. Hardware store spray paint will probably not withstand use and wear.
Thanks,
Ismael

Hello,
Needless to say, the pandemic has impacted our lives everywhere. For over a decade, ever since all local film processing places disappeared, I've used Wayne's Photo in Kansas exclusively for my film processing. Great quality, great service and reasonable pricing. They have a disclaimer in their website that due to the pandemic's impact in supplies, a 10 day delay is expected. What used to be a few days turn around time suddenly became 2 weeks. Fine. Negs usually arrive a few days after receiving the online scans. USPS transit time to and from them has never really been an issue. Then a few months ago it was 2 and a half weeks from the time they received the roll to the time I got my online scans. Now my latest roll was received (credit card charged) over 3 weeks ago. I called them today and I was told it was still in process so it would be a few more days.
I am by no means ranting on them. I'm sure they are doing their best and as long as the quality is there I'll wait. But I think it must be hurting them and most likely the story is similar for other places as well.
What's your experience?
Thanks,
Ismael

Hello,
Beware that in the MG, the battery cover screws to the battery compartment, not to the baseplate.
Maybe in your camera A the battery compartment was replaced and you are actually grabbing that thread instead of the baseplate. Can you swap the baseplates to see what happens?
Thanks,

I have many cameras but I always go back to the K100D Super. Yup! 6MP! Easy to handle files, good enough for publication, printing and of course online. Shutter count is over 32,000
But if I have to keep only one it would probably be the K5-II.
Thanks,

Hello,
I am not an expert, but I've never heard of such a change in the middle of a run. From your picture it seems the battery cover you have may not be the correct one. It seems a little bit small.

Hello,
What a beauty! That brassing and the shine suggests it is an original black one. Black models not only had the top and bottom covers in black: Also the screws, lens mount piece, the rewind crank, the advance lever, frame counter, slow speed knob and the back door hinge and latch. From what I see in your pictures all those boxes are checked.
Repaints are usually too glossy or too dull, as it is hard to replicate the original black finish which was some sort of plating or anodizing.
My suggestion? Send it to me and I will dispose of it properly! :)
Joking aside, leave the brassing alone, keep it clean and enjoy!
Thanks,

Thanks! Not at Scale Auto, but I am "the Corvette guy" at Model Cars Magazine and the Motorsports Modeling forums. Also in the Hobby Heaven board decades ago. I was also the owner and webmaster of ScaleCorvettes.com but shut it down years ago due to time limitations.

Hello,
As some of you know, my 2 main hobbies coexist and complement each other: Scale models and photography.
This is my latest scale model completion: 1/24 scale 2019 Corvette ZR1, Low Downforce aero package, photographed with my trusty K100D Super and the M50 f4 macro. My favorite combo for scale model photography.
Authentic Chevrolet Corvette G26 Sebring Orange paint
So, how big it is?
You can check its progress thread here: *FINISHED* 2019 C7 ZR1 Corvette | Motorsport Modeling

Hello,
Starting with the basics, are the batteries good? Check the battery compartment for corrosion or anything preventing a good contact. You can clean the contacts with alcohol and a swab.
If I recall correctly the P30 does not have manual ISO setting. Check the DX coding contacts as well. If nothing is detected, it will default to ISO 100 I believe.
Thanks,

First instant return mirror (late Asahiflex).
First successful built in meter (Spotmatic).
First multicoating of lenses. (only about 99% sure about this)
I think the ES Was the first auto exposure SLR
First autofocus (ME-F, but it was a dead end).
I think TAv mode is unique to Pentax.
Sensor shift stabilization was most likely developed by Sony but I think Pentax used it first in DSLRs. Not 100% sure.
Pixel Shift I think was first used in Pentax.
I think Pentax was the only DSLR with weather sealing at first. Not 100% sure

They are very similar: 0.85x, 92% for the MV1 and 0.87x, 92% for the MG
Ever so slightly different, but the MG has a shutter speed indicator in the viewfinder while the MV1 is all clear. While they are both almost the same height at the hot shoe top (only 1mm difference according to specs), the top control surface is a hint higher on the MG and the prism housing looks a hint wider. But you need to look very close to notice the differences.

Hello,
Presenting my non working Pentax MG:
The least I could do was a nice cleanup. I'm biased, but it is a nice looking camera.
My non working MV1 now has some company. This MV1 was my second SLR in the late 90's but the shutter died over a decade ago.
I can rent them to movie companies as props :)
I actually loaned a 1950's Kodak with a big flash for a short movie where there was a flashback scene of a wedding in the mid 50s.
Thanks,
