Case for K01 with 35mm 2.4 AL

If a neoprene pouch/case is what you are looking for, I can recommend the Op/Tech D-Offset. It's more expensive than the Chinese pouches, but it has thicker material and better stitching. It's what my K-01 wears if it's in my backpack.

I've also tried some of the LowePro "100-size" mini shoulder bags for mirrorless, with mixed results. The Adventura 100 was a snug but acceptable fit for the K-01 with a lens, but the Edit 100 was too small unless you took the lens off. I forget what the third one was (apart from free) - it was big enough to fit a K-5 with a lens. It's been a few years, and I haven't tried any of the latest models on the K-01.

Op/Tech's D-Shortie is a bit low and too skinny on the grip side. For the K-01 with a DA-35 mounted, the D-Offset fits perfectly (I have one). With a pancake lens, I find the D-Compact is the best fit (got one of those, too).

Among the generic Chinese neoprene pouch/cases (NeoPine, MegaGear, Dengpin, etc.), the case for the Nikon P600 is a good fit on the K-01 with a DA-35-sized lens.

Multi Battery Adapter Kit - Sony NPA-MQZ1K

I'm not sure if it can do that. It appears to have a micro USB port that is described as "DC In 5V", but the specs say it requires 12V at 1.8 Amps, and there isn't anything in the specs or manual about using that plug. You would think they would list that in the features, but I can't find any mention of charging from USB, just providing power to USB devices.

One review says that the charger only does one battery at a time, so I suppose that would address the loading issue - USB power should be enough to charge one battery (albeit slowly).

Edit: While reading the manual to see if it can be a USB charger, I found that it can't be used as an AC adapter:

Looks like it's really a battery pack, or a battery charger.

Neither hidden nor a gem - those Opteka/Bower/Samyang 500mm + 2x TC kits are common as sparrows and about as useful optically. The price IS a joke, as you can get one - new - for less than half that.

Most of my Kodak cans are black/gray, but some are black/black. (Most of my Kodak film was plain old Gold or Gold Max.) I think the black lids were the rolls that weren't the usual 24-exposure rolls: if it was a "bonus" pack with one 36-exposure roll, the 36 had a black lid, or if it was just a 12-exposure roll, maybe the C-41 BW film, things like that.

Battery voltage issue: K-x, K-r, K30, k50, ks2.. D-LI109.. AA battery

I think the Amazon Basics have gone through a few different suppliers/generations. I have some (white with the green leaf logo, not the green stripe) that are almost as good as my older Eneloops, but not quite.

Edit: But I don't think for a minute that they came from the same factory as "real" Eneloops of that generation.

Battery voltage issue: K-x, K-r, K30, k50, ks2.. D-LI109.. AA battery

The K-x does not use the D-Li109, only 4xAA batteries. The K-S2 cannot use AA batteries. The only bodies to use either were the K-r, K-30, K-50, and K-500. (Not counting external grips.)

You're kind of putting the cart before the horse here. Up to the K-x, all the low-end Pentax bodies were built around 4xAA batteries. Supporting 4xAA batteries was just a legacy feature from teh K-r on. Since Pentax supported AA batteries inside the body far longer than any other DSLR maker, and they stopped after the K-50, it's kind of a moot point.

Five volts is fairly standard operating voltage for digital electronics. Four alkaline cells in series is 4x1.5 = 6 volts, which the camera regulates down to 5. Four NiMH cells are generally enough at 4.8 volts, although I also remember the issues with rechargeables when the K-x first came out (Eneloops seemed to work, even with FW 1.00). As Not A Number said, alkaline batteries start with a higher cell voltage, but this drops fairly quickly; NiMH has a lower cell voltage, but it holds that voltage much longer, until the cell is exhausted. (This is known as the battery's "discharge curve".)

Then Lithium ion batteries came out, but their chemistry gives a nominal cell voltage of around 3.7 volts instead of 1.2 or 1.5 volts. One cell is not enough, so each battery has two cells in series, giving 7.4 volts, and the camera regulates it back down to 5 volts. There's nothing special about 7.4 volts - if you had 6xAA NiMH batteries, they might still be wired to give 4.8 volts, with two of the cells in parallel to provide more amps.

Will the pair of Yongnuo 603 ii work as a wireless shutter release for K-70?

I think the answer is "Yes, it can be done, but you are going to have to work for it." The setup that worked with previous Pentax models was the Nikon version of the RF-603, but with the (Canon) C1 cable, which has 2.5mm connectors on both ends. You are either going to need a 2.5mm-3.5mm adapter, or a different cable (see thread linked below for discussion of the adapter). So far as I know, YongNuo does not make a 2.5-3.5mm cable. I have seen shutter cables on eBay with a 2.5 on one end, and a 3.5 on the other, but the right angle plug is on the 2.5mm end (the brand is Vello). I can't say whether they will work with the K-70. Good luck!

This, and/or laser cutting, which is fairly accessible to model builders.

Again, making parts for vintage cameras should be a 3rd party industry (and would be, if there was any money to be made), not a problem for Ricoh Imaging. No one would expect Fiat to make parts for a '78 Gremlin, just because they bought what was left of what was left of the company.

I applaud the OP for dreaming big - not just one, but "at least two" film bodies! However, I don't think the thing holding back the film revolution is a lack of bodies. If it were, someone (Cosina) would still be making them. There are thousands upon thousands of great 35mm SLRs available right now for next to nothing.

Why does Ricoh Imaging need to be the company to lose money on a vanity project like this? The Pentax that built their last film camera fifteen years ago has been sold, broken up, stripped, sold again, and trimmed down to the bare minimum. This isn't what they do any more. This is a job for someone like Lomography, or Meyer-Optik, or one of those companies that sell Chinese-made gear using a venerable brand name under license.

Pentax Mirrorless?

You answered your own question. The K-01 flopped. Pentax realized that they could not compete in a very competitive segment (too competitive for Samsung, even!). They can't churn out cheap bodies to compete on price, they can't squeeze the same amount of electronics (= features) into a modified DSLR body with all mechanical linkages and a large empty space in the middle, and they can't pump resources into developing a FOURTH lens mount and ecosystem. (They barely support three now.) So, they do what they can do well, and apparently can do profitably.

If they develop the KAF4 lens line, they might be able to use that to revisit mirrorless some day, but it won't be any time soon.

I think you're right - the FOCAL MC AUTO something around the nose is probably "Focal MC Auto Zoom".

I'm guessing it's an 80-200 f/4.5 Macro push-pull zoom - KMart (Focal) seems to have sold a lot of those. This one on eBay is about the same size, and has the same grip and markings:

Honestly, that sums it up fairly well. Minolta is not back in business. Elite Brands is selling cameras using the Minolta name, in the same way that JK Imaging is selling cameras with the Kodak name. They might even be getting the same company (Asia Optical) to make them, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. AOCI has made similar compact and superzoom cameras for many brands, even Pentax.

Incidentally, Elite Brands are the folks behind Rokinon lenses (rebranded Samyang). They also list Samyang as one of "their" brands, but so far as I can tell, they do not own Samyang Optics. Maybe they are the US distributor.

Yeah, that's what I'm paying (less actually, since I renew two years at a time), but based on a quick Googling, it appears that 'grandfathered' SmugMug users pay less than the advertised prices, as well. I don't think you can look at new user pricing on one and grandfathered pricing on the other and say one or the other is inherently more expensive. (I have a renewal coming up in June at the current price, so unless they change the price really soon, I won't have to worry about it for a couple years.)

Are you seeing different prices from what I am seeing? A SmugMug 'Basic' account is US$47.88/year, and the current price for a Flickr 'Pro' account is US$49.99/year.

A Basic account is roughly the same level of service as a Flickr Pro account (unlimited storage, unlimited uploads). Flickr doesn't offer anything like the higher-tier SmugMug offerings (custom website, personal URL, custom code, etc.).

Likewise - I've had a Pro account since 2007 or so. The features and pricing on a SmugMug 'Basic' account look to be about the same as a flickr 'Pro', except for those of us who have been paying grandfather'ed prices for the grandfathered tier - but honestly, I thought that would go away years ago.

I thought targeted ads were the whole point of the "free" flickr accounts. That seems to go against SmugMug's philosophy, but the majority of flickr accounts are the free type, according to this USAToday article, so something will have to change:

SmugMug snaps up Flickr photo service from Verizon's Oath

I don't know, Don MacAskill is at least making the right noises. I always thought Verizon would sell flickr - or just pull the plug.

Darn - this is the point where Rupert would always rant about the time flickr messed up his account. Now I *am* sad. :(
